"The financing has nothing to do with the price of the car it's a totally separate issue."

Not necessarily true - if the promo is at participating dealers, then they are participating in a rate buy down cutting into their up front profit, so they WOULD not probably offier it on a below invoice deal.

Looking for dealer - EXL - 4 door, 4 cyl, auto by larryallen707

I am looking for a 2008 4 door, 4 cyl, auto, EXL. I am in the Sacramento area. My lowest offer thus far is $23,500 + standard fees. Anybody know of a dealer in the general area that can get me that last $500 so I can meet the deals they are getting in SoCal? It's only $500 so obviously not flying to LA to get the car. Maybe something in the east Bay Area?

Paint sealant by gismap

In asking for quotes, some dealers have mentioned paint sealant worth $595. None of them included in their price, but I was wondering whether this is a real dealer applied sealant or if it is already on the car already? Does anybody know about this "add-on"?

Just one of those deals that cost the dealers $10 in materials and they use to pad their profits! IMHO - stay away from any "dealer" add ons like rustproofing, etc. I have walked out of dealerships where they take a $25,000 car and make it a $30,000 car with "dealer installed" add ons.

For example, a local dealer here in Manhattan had a "body protection package" that consisted of body side moldings (not factory) and some bumper protecdtion strips - $1995!!!

Please - I had the dealer from whom I bought my car in Albany, NY install the Honda factory body side moldings - 1. They look a 1000 times better than any after market stuff and 2. They cost $225 installed and, while some find them objectionable, I like their looks and they DO protect the sides from door dings - a real hazard here in Manhattan parking garages.

This is an enormous waste of money. Everyone in a car dealership gets paid if they sell it and it has a value of 0. Don't waste your money!

It is as I suspected (with the lowball price in that ad) and you wrote in your post. This is a classic bait and switch. Try to get people in the door with a low price and switch them to another car/stock # after they arrive knowing that the original car is not available. I feel like calling the attorney general's office! This is a practice that is patently illegal in Mass. and most other places, btw. On the other hand, two other dealers came back at $21,431.00 + tax and I am pleased with that price. Now I just have to decide: gray or silver. Thanks for your input and insight!

I have no Idea what you are referring to about the attorney general. To place an ad with one or 2 vin# and identify it, or advertise all EX-l's for 3000 off (and they are quickly gone, or only one on the lot to begin with) is not uncommon, and I see no masses of dealers in the prisons in the country. To give the customer the another option because the vehicles are gone, etc is "courtesy" or of course a "bait and switch" depending on how you look at it. This has been done for 80 years in the car biz.

I guess a bad actor never even having the car could be pursued, however AG offices usually have more pressing business.
