Honda Financing Remorse Issue by joshuaians

I bought an EX yesterday (21,080 + fees), in NJ. I think I'm happy with the deal from what I've seen.

I thought I was going to be able to finance using the current Honda deal (.9% or 2.9%, depending). It was the end of the day and I had asked the finance manager about and said that it didn't apply in our situation because we were buying for under invoice and I got a much worse rate (approx 5.8). I feel dumb now because I think that's shenanigans. Nothing I can see on the Honda site about the deal applies, and I have great credit.

I plan on going to the dealer tomorrow and figuring out if there's anything I can do to get my rate changed to what I think it should be.

Has anyone been in a similar situation? Do I have any recourse or am I screwed because I'm gullible? Am I better off dealing with Honda Finance at this point?

Shopping for weeks in South Florida, best price I get down here is just under 26k, this includes destination fee, dealer fees and 6% sales tax, does not include title transfer. Anyone down here doing any better. Most colors are available, I really like the black on black, with tinted windows, looks so good but I just might have to get the silver with black and become a Raider fan. Any thoughts????
I was surprised I have to get automatic because no sticks available in the south side of the state.

What dealership in NJ is this? Can you provide more details of the car, i.e., sedan, auto, etc.? The price they sold the car for appears to be well below the invoice price of $22,291 w/destination. Unless there is something in the details that is one heck of a price you received. If you are unhappy with the APR I would call Honda to see if buying a car below invoice would make you ineligible for the .9% APR. Keep us posted.

Sounds like they took you to the cleaners. I would go to the dealer Monday morning and if that doesn't resolve it have your attorney fax the dealer AND Honda corp a letter. They misrepresented the truth it sounds like. Oh ya, and yes it sounds like you are guillible.

"2008 model is larger and heavier than 2007"

So, that's a bad thing?

This explains lower MPG for the 08 Accord. Is this a bad thing? Yes if you care about mileage. In terms of road noises, this has been confirmed by test driving an 08 Accord vs. 08 Altima or Camry. By the way, I love Honda and have been driving Honda for all my life. I just don't think it was a smart move to design and build a larger Accord for 2008.

You got a great price! I paid $21,500 last month in Mass, still well under invoice and DID get the 0.9% financing. Never a comment about needing to do dealer special financing due to below invoice pricing.
Hope you can resolve this to your benefit. Had I gotten your price, I would have gladly put a full check on the table.

First of all you got a great deal on an ex. Second of all, no worries as you can always refinance your rate with little if any closing costs. When I bought my ex, at $500 over your price I might add, I came prepared with a pre-authorization for 3.9 % financing from a local credit union. They offered 2.9% ( at that time there wasn't .9%) and I accepted. So check around your local credit unions, you may find how easy it is to join even if you don't fit the group or industry it was originally set up for. Your only mistake was not being prepared for f & i so having to accept what they offered.Otherwise fine job and I commend you.
Oh as to trade ins, always visit carmax before you proceed to the dealership should they lowball you.

Guess what...

...with the same ratings system, the 2007 Accord I4 has the EXACT SAME RATING as the 2008. 21/31.

I just don't think it was a smart move to design and build a larger Accord for 2008.

Accords get larger and heavier with every redesign. Why would this one be different? It gets the same mileage, accelerates similarly, yet has much more interior space. If Accords never got bigger, we'd be in a car this size.
