Here's my negotiating story from hell.... Beaverton Oregon - Bob Lamphere Beaverton Honda. Some facts: - EX-L V6 - Polished Metal Metallic - Black leather interior - Rear Spoiler - Mud Flaps - wheel locks - 230 miles on it!!! - liked Altima - had pricing for 08 Altima 3.5 SL for 27k (really good deal I think) Ok so the negotiation on the 08 Accord starts. They had a 'sale price' of $28,800. I had an Internet manager offer for the same base vehicle from another dealer that was farther away for $26,868 with mud flaps only. I offered that same amount at Beaverton Honda and of course out comes the sales manager. First thing out of his mouth "We are the largest Honda dealer in the Northwest"...oh boy that means they are not going to deal with me I'm thinking (which turned out true). So I tell him about the offer from another dealership. He says they are lying to get me in the door - call them and ask for a VIN number...so I call to validate. The Internet manager at Gladstone Honda (who was very up front and honest with me) then says sorry we don't have with black leather (I forgot to specify this with her in my email) only grey but we have one coming in will honor at the same price when it comes in. I tell this to local dealer. He tries to tell me that: - that color is the most wanted - Honda Accords are NOT invoive vehicles - they are the largest dealer and there's no way anyone else can sell theirs for that little and make money - he said he would work with me on the Silver accord (they had 4-5 on hand) I tell him: - if you are the largest dealer then you get volume pricing and holdbacks (he stumbled a bit when I said this!) - this vehicle has been on the lot for a while since it has 230 miles on it (plus I test drove it the weekend before) - I don't want the silver - I'll go to 27k (hey I really liked it!) since it has the wheel locks and spoiler he counters - well with the dealer installed accessories I'll want more then that but why don't you and the sales guy talk about it see what you can do I offer sales guy one last time: tell him 27k, I'll do financing through you and since you are 5 miles from my house all service work will be here. He comes back w/ a no and I leave the lot. Then the salesman calls me later in the evening and has the audacity to ask me if I purchased from the other dealer. I explained to him again that the other dealership didn't have black leather but have one coming in. He said they did too and give me a call if you'd like to deal on it (yea right I thought). In my opinion - this dealer was very selfish. I offered a thousand OVER invoice -- which that's the published invoice - I'm sure they were making much more then that on the vehicle (please anyone correct me if I'm wrong on that point). I'm very frustrated at the "Large Volume" dealers - don't be fooled people - this is the second Large Volume dealer I've dealt with. Because they are large they know that the vehicle is going to sell eventually anyway and as such are not willing to work with you or give you a good deal!!!! So I'll be purchasing from another dealership soon enough. And I'll go out of my way to get service somewhere else as well. |

Hi, I would appreciate any thoughts on whether I should buy the V 6 ex or the 4 cyl EXL. They are similar in price. What is the better choice, leather or the 6 cylinder? I can't afford both. |

Replying to: phillyrising (Feb 17, 2008 1:21 pm) Now I'm disappointed with the operation of the VCM system on my car. If I had it to do over, I'd have got the EX-L 4 banger, or spent even a little more and gone with an Acura TL. If you do decide on the V-6, do yourself a favor and take an extended test drive to make sure that the VCM doesn't bother you.
