#18726 of 29555 How much did you pay for the 2008 Honda Accord Coupe?
by gotq

I am planning to get the 2008 Honda Accord Coupe EX (2.5, 4 cylinder, Polish Metallic Metal, cloth) with no additions and just wonder if anyone who has bought the car can share how much they did they pay? I'm living in Southern CA, will there be a big difference between states? Also, I read something about the PZEV but still feel a little bit confused. Am I legally required to get a car with PZEV? The Accord Coupe does provide this option but I don't know if I need to pay extra for it. This is first time I buy a car and really appreciate any help. Please share your opinion. Thanks!!

The edmunds invoice is what every dealer is supposed to pay Honda. But somewhere down the line, I'm pretty sure that Honda provide discounts for being a good dealerships, volume dealerships and loyalty blah blah blah (all these discounts or incentives) are only known to the business owner. Not even the salesmen know much about them. Using the edmunds invoice is good start. I really think that we, the consumers, are in control of these prices. Buying at invoice is no longer a dream, but a reality. My salesman admitted that for every invoice sale, he earned a mini (50-125) dollars. Therefore, I don't really like dreamcar's attitude towards salesmen. They work 60 hours a week to make a living. We should treat them with respect and not like bad guys. I believe that a good salesman should be rewarded with a sale that benefits both parties.

Most dealers claim they'll match prices to get you there. Steven Creeks quote to me was much higher and when I mentioned the lower quote I had from Grace they said they could not match it, much less beat it. Dealers can always locate the car you want, it may take a little time.

PZEV and ULEV stand for partially zero or ultra low emmission vehicle. Most, if not all, Accords are made with either one of those designations and there is no extra cost on it. The label is on the window of the vehicle. Good luck.

"(all these discounts or incentives) are only known to the business owner"
I think that's the problem. You might even think you know the invoice and both you and Edmunds could be in the dark. I think it's a well guarded secret that pushes the prices up in favor of the dealer. Cars have become so expensive now it's like buying a house and you know that housing prices are nothing but manipulated in the sellers favor. Why, because you need the seller more than he needs you; until that changes, get use to high prices and less value for your dollar.
If you really knew the manufacturer's and the dealer's profit margin you would likely boycott the lot of them. Maybe the poor salesman on the floor isn't rich, but someone in that dealership is making a mint. Don't get me started on the car makers who make record profits while they lay people off and buy companies like Land Rover, Jaguar, Volvo and Aston Martin like I buy chewing gum. Ford just announced the biggest profits in their history:

I love this quote:
'We're building everything we can build,'' said George M. Pipas, Ford's manager of sales analysis. ''Even though our market share is lower, the products that we are building are more profitable.''
That's like saying we make really cheap cars then sell them for an enormous profit, and we're proud of it. They don't need you, but why do you need them? Because the repair bills and reliability factor on the old car they sold you 5 and 10 years ago is driving you crazy. Planned obsolescence? Oh, I couldn't prove anything.
Cynical? Or realist? Hell, I love cars, but damn, I hate profit motive and hidden numbers. Sorry for the rant (I have issues with being a sheep).

yeah the big three are all teeter-tottering on the edge of bankruptcy... combined they don't even break 50% market share.

Anybody with any prices in the southeastern PA/southern NJ/northern DE market? I'm not finding deals even close to what I'm reading here. From every dealer I get "the EX-L V6 sedan, other than the coupe, is the most in demand model" and they act like they're doing me a favor with a small discount off msrp.

I would like to thank the members of this forum for their sincere advice that helped me in my buying process. I have bought a 2008 Accord EX-L 4Cyl polished metal ext with black leather, in Knoxville,TN from westside Honda.
Edmunds.com invoice=24,026
I paid 23,300 + T.T.L [2 days ago]
OTD Price 25,500
There are 3 dealers in knoxville and the other 2 didn't come down below 23,500+ttl.
Hope this helps other buyers.
I am very happy with my purchase.

WOW, awesome deal, good work!
Any tips on how you handled the situation/what you did to bring the dealer down?
Enjoy your new accord!
