isellhondas: I know that you are coming from dealers' standpoint since you are a car salesman. However, customers should get the full $2000 incentive since that's not out of dealers' pockets anyway. Not to mention dealers would still make $700 in hold back. Maybe you don't work for a high volume dealer, but Boch Honda in Norwood, MA would sell this vehicle for invoice - $2000 incentive- $700 hold back. I know this for fact because I've checked with them not too long ago.

Actually, I'm just trying to talk sense and I hope you can get over the fact I'm in the business.

Incentive dollars go to the DEALERS. This isn't customer cash. NOW, if the dealers are able to use some of these dollars to make some great deals, that is a good thing for both sides. A dealer will do whatever it takes to move product and stay competitve but they have to make money in order to stay in business and be profitable.

For the umpteenth time, holdback IS NOT bottom line profit. It HELPS defray some of the flooring costs. In addition, dealers have this little thing called OVERHEAD!

Still, some people thing that wringing every last drop of blood out of a deal is the thing to do and I guess I have troble understanding that concept.

Oh, and the holdback on a V-6 SE would be less than 500.00.

Carry on...

"What he did was add it to has allocation. As I understand things, they have to have 30 orders for a certain configuration before they build them which makes sense from a production standpoint."

How can they have 30 orders when they're only allocated one coupe per so many days ?

Here's how it works...

A customer requests a red 5 speed LX Accord coupe.

The dealer takes a deposit and adds it to his allocation and sends it in.

In order for Honda to produce this car, they have to have at least 29 other orders for that exact same car.

Now...

It's a coupe...not nearly as many are built as sedans.

It's an LX. Not as popular is EX's.

It's a 5 speed. Not nearly as popular as sutomatics are.

It's red. Not a **bad** color, just far from the most popular.

Hard to tell when they will get 30 requests for this exact car but in the case of the poster, I hope this happens quickly!

The dealer told me that he was only allocated one coupe till October-- and then he'll be able to order more- but prolly just one or two- so how would they be able to order 30 of the exact same configuration when they're limited to one allocated car ? They told me it would prolly be built in November... and before then- they'll call me with a Vin number ...

Isellhondas just tried to explain that. It's not 30 orders from that one dealer. It's 30 orders from all dealers to the factory. Once the factory has 30 orders for the exact car you ordered, they will then produce a run of them and ship them to whichever dealers have ordered them.

If you're in CA, you might want to stay away from Honda of Oakland. A user from another site/forum posted this thread and photos to show. Check out the pics in this thread.

And I bet you love every single one of them. How much discount off of MSRP can be expected at year end? That will be worth the wait IMO

Wow, that is an amazing deal!! You got it for less than invoice - $2000 incentive - 3% hold back. Could you please tell me which dealer you got yours from? I hope to get an I4 EX-L Sedan AT for $21,000 according to the price you paid.
