Purchased Accord Sedan EX-L V6 AT by blurryfingers

Happened around 2 weeks ago but I've gained so much info from this site I thought I should give back. I purchased the EX-L V6 without navigation in KS. I had been emailing lots of dealers around the area for some starting OTD quotes. I went into the local dealer to negotiate and they tried every trick in the book. (I'm young) Told me how "special" I was and how I'm the only customer that gets to see the invoice price they brought out. I went in with all my info on paper with invoice, and rebates and everything listed. I also brought a calculator (good idea). After about an hour of negotiation they wouldn't go down from 26,700 OTD (7.3% tax). At one point their offer went up about a 100 bucks higher than their last So we left. Next day I got a call from another dealer that asked what it would take to buy right now. I had read the post about the triple net pricing so I took invoice - rebates - holdback + tax and told him $25,400 OTD. They accepted and we went and picked it up. I've been very happy so far. Good luck to all potential buyers.

Really?

We should probably do that since the guys in the shop just hate installing steering wheel covers.

Of course, we sell so few of them it's not a big deal. In 12 years, I think I may have sold three of them?

I'm surprised you go through so few of them. For like $80 you can spend the next 5-8 years holding on to something nice and comfortable vs a hard vinyl plasticy thing. If you did the wheel and the shift knob, it would make everything you have to touch every time you get in the car feel so much better.

New incentives if any will be available tomorrow, per dealer I spoke with.

We passed on all of the Bay Area dealers because of their high dealer fees. They wouldn't come near the price quotes that we got from dealers in other areas of the state.

We ended up driving the 87 miles north to Honda of Ocala. We got an excellent deal on the EX-L I4 4dr AT w/ Navigation. $24,700 OTD. Including trunk tray, wheel locks and wheel guards. Rick Case Honda, Maroone Honda of Hollywood and Ed Morse Honda also gave very competitive quotes.

It's definitely worth the drive, in my opinion.

Oh, I guess. To me a leather wrapped steering wheel isn't a big deal. To others (very few)it may be so I gesss that's why it's available as an option.

I can't remember the last time I had a customer want one.

I am going to back out of the flaky deal with Dealer 1 and request/fight to get my $2K back. I only signed a lease contract which hadn't even been approved (I later learnt that this is illegal)

I shopped around a little bit and have an offer of 20,250 from Dealer 2 on the SE V6 automatic which I will try to get down further when I go in tomorrow. Will post what finally happens.

THANK YOU ALL! This has been helpful and like many others, I *wish* I had done a more thorough job of reading the forum *before* I went in.

Good for you! One does it because "they all do it" - sooner or later they will figure out they are losing business to other dealerships and get with the program or face being a dealership that will not sell as many cars as they could.

If they made up for high fees with lower prices it would be one thing, but to offer a similar or even higher price AND a high fee just spells "walk away".

I had the sales manager at a local Scion dealership (no haggle, fixed price buying) tell me he got lots of business from folks far away because his doc fee was $50 less than the others. They could not dicker on the price, but they could save themselves $50 by doing a little extra driving - and they did.

" From folks far away"

I wonder just how far some of these people would drive in order to "save" a lousy 50.00?

It's only a lousy $50 when it belongs to someone else..

When it's your $50, it looks like this: $50
