moderator_drew: Hi juice and rsunico! moderator_drew: Welcome to tonight's chat rsunico: hi ateixeira hi drew ateixeira: Hi Drew are we up? moderator_drew: Yup, should be ateixeira: Is that Renato? moderator_drew: It's 6pm Pacific! rsunico: Yes ateix rsunico: thanks for the link to your sunroof pics... nice ateixeira: Is that a Brazilian name? rsunico: e italiano... rsunico: what did they do to the rubber rails on the roof? ateixeira: Cool, lots of brazilians use that name ateixeira: The rails are metal - they just cut them shorter moderator_drew: They're metal? ateixeira: then reinstalled them. Looks great rsunico: and drilled a new hole on the roof... moderator_drew: Wow, I didn't know that rsunico: i need to find a place in new jersey that will do them. russ sent me pics of his electric sunroof thats nice as well.. ateixeira: Yes, several actually. No leaks in 2 years moderator_drew: Is there a rubber coating on them or something? moderator_drew: Ross you mean moderator_drew: I've seen his in person rsunico: yuppers sorry.. Ross in Vancouver moderator_drew: very nice armac13: has joined the chat. ateixeira: Ross, to Rufus, his Forester moderator_drew: Speaking of Ross....here he is now! armac13: Hi gang moderator_drew: Hi Ross moderator_drew: We were discussing your moonroof rsunico: Hi Ross. Renato here I was ooing and aahing sunroofs moderator_drew: Did you say it was a Webesto? ateixeira: Did they also cut your roof rails short? armac13: Rufus turned 1 year yesterday moderator_drew: Happy Birthday Rufus rsunico: In Canada they don't have those rails ... moderator_drew: Hmm, wonder why rsunico: lucky Canadians ateixeira: Sweet. Sandy will be 3 on 8/8. Got her 8/8/98 armac13: Webasto/Solaire moderator_drew: You can buy the rubber strips if you really want though rsunico: ateix.. where are you located? ateixeira: I like the rails - I use them a lot moderator_drew: The OEM for the new C-class's moonroof is Webasto too ateixeira: I'm near DC moderator_drew: I just found that out today ateixeira: the capital rsunico: i will be there tomorrow night to sunday, i should get it done! armac13: They do a lot of the high end factory roofs ateixeira: Drew - do you mean the new Coupe? moderator_drew: No, the current sedan ateixeira: Cool. The place I went to is called Adler & Mandell moderator_drew: I think they do a lot of work for MB anyway ateixeira: They are in Rockville, MD,and yes they are in the phonebook moderator_drew: WEbasto, that is rsunico: thanks! moderator_drew: What's the other moonroof company that everyone talks about? rsunico: how'd you find em moderator_drew: Can't remember it right now ateixeira: Mine is an ASC. Adler & Mandell is an ASC approved shop, and they also do power roofs armac13: ASC?? moderator_drew: Oh that's it ASC rsunico: as long as you have not had a leak in 2 years i will get the subie done... moderator_drew: A few special edition Honda CR-Vs here have the ASC roofs ateixeira: A friend had one installed back in the 80's moderator_drew: Those look good too armac13: I didn't like the controls nearly as much rsunico: so far i am on week 3 of my subie.. my saab is lonesome sitting in the garage.. moderator_drew: They're on the roof right? moderator_drew: and three buttons ateixeira: Then I did one on my old car, then another friend. All were good work so I went back. None of the 4 have ever leaked moderator_drew: Does yours tilt? ateixeira: You would like Gary from SCOA (he is the founder) ateixeira: Gary has a Soob and a Saab, and runs two clubs! rsunico: no way... armac13: Yes mine tilts and does everything else except make coffee ateixeira: Check out the web site www.subaruclub.com - events are great and the last one was for Soobs and Saabs moderator_drew: Is there an auto retract feature too? rsunico: will do... I was previously very involved w/ the Peugeot Club.. we were hosted by the French embassy in DC.. that was cool.. armac13: auto close, one touch open, one touch close ateixeira: Mine is a pop-up, totally manual. You can pop it up, or remove it, but then you have to store it rsunico: Ross... and you only paid roughly 800 US.. that is a deal! ateixeira: Clubs are fun. You learn a lot about your car moderator_drew: One touch close is nice armac13: I'm very pleased moderator_drew: I have to hold my button down to close it ateixeira: $800 is good. I think Adler & Mandell was asking $900 for a power roof moderator_drew: Legalities...they're afraid that someone may chop a finger off or something. rsunico: My Subie is the work horse.. I have bikes and other stuff on it right now.. w/ my Saab convertible I had no room for anything.. ateixeira: My wife's does not have either (one touch open or close) moderator_drew: The auto close moonroofs from the factory have pinch sensors armac13: after key is removed one has 1+ minutes to set position ateixeira: Saab convertible? not bad... 9-3 or 900? rsunico: i would not want an auto sunroof... rsunico: new body style 900.. same as the 93 rsunico: it cost twice the subie! but i find the subie easier to drive.. saabs to 97 had a clutch cable (go figure) moderator_drew: juice, why couldn't they make the roof larger? moderator_drew: Or did they just not have one at the time? ateixeira: Cool. Almost bought one of those from my boss. It was auto and non-turbo though, so I passed. Either turbo or 5 speed and I might have bought it. It was cherry and he was giving it away ateixeira: Larger than mine, you mean? moderator_drew: Yup ateixeira: The ASC is 15" by 30", biggest they offered at the time, at least ateixeira: They did have smaller ones, 12" by something rsunico: 12 is too small... ateixeira: My old Sprint had a much smaller one. moderator_drew: Saabs aren't cheap cars to works on though, are they? I mean brake jobs are about the same or more expensive than MB brake jobs rsunico: did they have to move the light inside your subie as well? rsunico: Drew: Saabs are a PAIN and they are MAINTENANCE hounds! ateixeira: Yeah, but my boss' was a year old and absolutely cherry, and he was selling for $5 grand below market rsunico: 30k service is at least 550-600...!! moderator_drew: Only a year old!? ateixeira: Yes, they moved the light back. Still works like a charm armac13: ouch rsunico: and they depreciate badly.. unlike .. I hope.. Subies ateixeira: Actually, it lights up the back seat for the baby - bonus armac13: same with mine moderator_drew: That sounds somewhat similar to MB. Service B is about $400, but it's covered for the first 4 years for free in the US moderator_drew: $400 canadian, that is rsunico: they only started offering free service w/ 2000 models.. the sheisters moderator_drew: Is that for Saab? armac13: are you talking US or Cn Drew? moderator_drew: CDN, Ross ateixeira: Let's see, it was a '95 Saab 900, leather, loaded up with auto, he was asking $15k but said he'd sell it to me for $12k. armac13: sorry, I'm slow rsunico: I use to drive to Canada for service... much cheaper... but thats when I was in Detroit.. ateixeira: New ones were $22 grand at least moderator_drew: No problem moderator_drew: Service B can be from 30K to 40K, depending on your driving style rsunico: the plain 4 cylinder is a work horse and low maintenance... ateixeira: The boss was really pushing, but I found the auto N/A engine a bit slow maw1982 2: has joined the chat. moderator_drew: Hi Matt ateixeira: What do you drive? moderator_drew: A Malibu, juice vdchawk: has joined the chat. moderator_drew: He hasn't ever posted in TH either moderator_drew: Welcome vdchawk! vdchawk: Hi all rsunico: I did a bad thing the other night.. drove a friend to the Subie dealer and I salivated over an S premium forester and a wRX wagon.. sigh ateixeira: How's it going Matt? maw1982: good maw1982: thanks for the advice armac13: Thats a good thing ateixeira: Matt - you shopping? moderator_drew: How's the VDC, Keith moderator_drew: The WRX wagon is nice moderator_drew: and almost as practical maw1982: you left me a post about a used legacy wagon ateixeira: Renato - I am afraid to drive a WRX, I know I'll like it too much moderator_drew: You haven't driven one yet!? vdchawk: VDC good family car, WRX is trouble for lead foot armac13: I'm still waiting to drive one ateixeira: Cool, Matt, which one (sorry I get asked that several times a day) rsunico: Same here... but oh geez the horsepower, the momo steering wheel.. argh... moderator_drew: Not below 3000 rpms though rsunico: thats true drew... moderator_drew: I haven't driven one either rsunico: im new to subes.. what is a VDC? maw1982: it was post about a high mileage '95 legacy armac13: Rufus gets his birthday present next week moderator_drew: Vehicle Dynamic Control rsunico: my dealer has a WRX demo car.. maw1982: you said to just avoid it ateixeira: No I have not driven one. I was going to drive Hutch's at the Covered Bridge Tour, but I ended up co-piloting and piloting paisan's XT6 moderator_drew: Stability control moderator_drew: system armac13: 2-4 days of logging roads rsunico: what is your present drew? moderator_drew: You mean Ross rsunico: with your reardust deflector in place moderator_drew: What is Rufus' present? ateixeira: Cool Ross rsunico: he gets to laugh at dust armac13: lots of logging roads moderator_drew: Oh that, LOL moderator_drew: that's how I recognised your Forester moderator_drew: by the deflector armac13: yes, it should give the deflector a good trial rsunico: drew are you a canuck as well? in BC? moderator_drew: You should get a personalised plate with "Rufus" moderator_drew: Renato, yup, same area as Ross rsunico: My Subes name is Tadashi.. ateixeira: The Canadians are taking over! rsunico: Our home and native land... ateixeira: How did you come up with that name? armac13: What is the story on that name? klkrause: has joined the chat. rsunico: Its a common Japanese name.. a friend of mine as a kid had this name vdchawk: Where's the south park crew when you need em...Blame canada... moderator_drew: Hi Kevin rsunico: Love that S Park song! klkrause: hi ateixeira: Mine is Sandy - after the driving on the OBX beaches rsunico: obx? huh? ateixeira: Outer Banks of North Carolina ateixeira: Cool trip armac13: gotta run folks rsunico: i see obx stickers all the time.. now I know what it means! ateixeira: See ya Ross rsunico: happy Birthday! armac13: volunteer work next three weeks rsunico: you drove your forester on the beach? ateixeira: Check out my photo album - there under Forester photos are a few pics at the OBX. Subies do better in sand than most people think armac13: you bet rsunico: First thing I did to mine was replace the cheap gear shift then put in the Subie 6 CD in dash change.. nice.. ateixeira: I was away for 3 weeks - things were kind of slow it seemed moderator_drew: Yes, Mike has been away too it seems vdchawk: Always worry more about the sand in the car than the car in the sand. Gritty stuff wears out parts ateixeira: Did you get the leather one or a custom knob? moderator_drew: from the boards, that is klkrause: gotta go ... wife is calling moderator_drew: Hey, everyone is bailing tonight! rsunico: leather.... ateixeira: Mike is building the ultimate home theatre, he's seen no one moderator_drew: juice, does Sandy have a CD player yet? ateixeira: I have the leather knob too. I love it ateixeira: No, believe it or not. rsunico: ateix.. did you go to the subie/saab meet a few months ago in PA? ateixeira: I usually take a DVD notebook for long trips though rsunico: has anyone every gone to the import carshow in carlisle, pa? ateixeira: Yes, it was the Covered Bridge Tour ateixeira: If you get the SCOA newsletter, you ateixeira: will get to read my article about the trip flj168: has joined the chat. ateixeira: Gary will publish it moderator_drew: Hi Fred! rsunico: i got the scoa newsletter... my dealer offers 25% discount on parts/access. so it was a worthy investment.. ffsteve: has joined the chat. ateixeira: SCOA is worth it - just for the events even moderator_drew: Hello Stephen, welcome to the Subaru chat ateixeira: Gary does a lot of work and barely breaks even vdchawk: they do events up in NJ/NY rsunico: when is there another event? rsunico 2: has joined the chat. moderator_drew: Feel free to jump in anytime, newcomers flj168: Hi this is the first time I've been able to remember to log-on on Thursday nights! ateixeira: Yup. Fixed? vdchawk: Got new one, didn't help, left a message for patti ateixeira: Cool, at least if it's with Patti you'll get good service ateixeira: Teething problems with a new engine, i guess vdchawk: They downloaded the ECU info to Japan, what more can they do? rsunico: who is Patti? I've seen her name bantered about here and there moderator_drew: Patti is the Subaru of America rep ateixeira: She's an SoA rep that chats with us - and helps out a lot moderator_drew: that works with Town Hall vdchawk: where is she tonight ateixeira: She catered an SCOA event for us, even moderator_drew: Probably busy moderator_drew: She was here last week ateixeira: Also got us free passes for the Philly Auto Show, and VIP canvas bags full of goodies rsunico: Cool. good person to know... rsunico: a REALLY good person to know.. vdchawk: Yup, did she get flooded in last weeks storms moderator_drew: Yup, you'll see her posting under the username "subaru_team" in Town Hall ateixeira: Very, very good person to know moderator_drew: What sort of goodies, juice? celeste2: has joined the chat. ateixeira: Lessee, canvas bag, pen, leather key chain, cool flashlight ateixeira: WRX stickers my kid loved vdchawk: good kid ateixeira: and brochures, I think that's about it vdchawk: My kid has the outback koala bear ateixeira: Celeste! Almost daily. It's small and handy celeste2: Where do you get this neat stuff? ateixeira: Attending events, mostly. ateixeira: SCOA always has freebies. I got a Subaru bucket with all kinds of car wash stuff too moderator_drew: Wow, lots of Subaru stuff moderator_drew: You have to take a picture next time vdchawk: when is the next SCOA event moderator_drew: So did you keep Photopoint after all, juice? ateixeira: I think I have everything in the catalog, almost. T-shirts, hats, keychains (2 kinds), pens, flashlights, bucket, oxford jean shirt, etc. celeste2: What's SCOA? ateixeira: Yes, I paid photopoint the $10. No way I was going to down load 272 photos again moderator_drew: Subaru Club of America vdchawk: Juice, you going for the LLBean stuff next? moderator_drew: Same here, except that I have about 900 pics moderator_drew: Close to bumping the limit celeste2: Yahoo has free photo service. I'm trying them ateixeira: Well, I do not have the Bean Outback, but I like the store and there is an outlet in Hagerstown rsunico: woops sorry vdchawk: They private label Sube stuff, nice fleece sweatshirts etc... ateixeira: Yeah, real nice. LL Bean stuff ain't cheap, but it is top notch quality moderator_drew: No LLBean in Canada celeste2: What's SCOA? moderator_drew: They just have the plain ole OB H6 moderator_drew: and the VDC moderator_drew: H6 vdchawk: Just finding ways to spend the sube card rebates ateixeira: A lot of people do not like the Bean logos, I dont mind them because I like the store rsunico: you got Roots in Canada... celeste.. subaru club of america moderator_drew: Subaru Club of America = SCOA celeste2: Oh! I get it now! moderator_drew: Yup, roots, but no Roots Outback here either moderator_drew: We do have Whistler GMC Jimmies and stuff though celeste2: And these are all freebies from SCOA? moderator_drew: Then there is the Head CRV right now moderator_drew: from the Tennis equipment maker ateixeira: It' s a club run by Garry in Pennsylvania that holds cool events about twice a year. They may do a factory tour at SIA or another gimmick rally in the fall kameele: has joined the chat. ateixeira: Welcome rsunico: I would have loved to have gone to the Gettysburg one.. a winter rally, with snow would be fun as well.. ateixeira: There was a Dynastar Forester - very cool kameele: Hi all, rsunico: test out the AWD... I can't wait for SNOW.. my saab is not great in snow. moderator_drew: Oh yeah, the Dynastar Forester phatride01: has joined the chat. ateixeira: For $300 you got side steps, a snow board, rack, and heated seats and mirrors on the L model moderator_drew: with skiracks and skis phatride01: hello all. moderator_drew: and a brushguard moderator_drew: Hi phatride01! phatride01: where r we all from? rsunico: 'I have never heard of a Dynastar Forester! ateixeira: DC here, the capital rsunico: darn.. I wouldn't mind seat warmers celeste2: ME be from Florida phatride01: I live in NY, and am awaiting my WRX wagon.. moderator_drew: It's a Canadian special edition ateixeira: I took photos of one from the Covered Bridge Tour - cool vdchawk: NJ moderator_drew: Heh, I could tell by your handle, phatride01 rsunico: hate you hate you hate you phat... rub it in.. WRX rsunico: I am lusting over a silver WRX phatride01: hehe..actually, that was for the stratus that I purchased last year ateixeira: Awaiting a WRX - longest days of your life celeste2: What color, phatride? rsunico: <-- NJ as well phatride01: little did I know that the thing would be a lemon kameele: just got back from son's 8th grade graduation phatride01: silver, wagon moderator_drew: Hey, I waited 13 months for the M-class before giving up celeste2: Oh, nice. moderator_drew: phatride01: so I fought, and fought, and five months later, I won the case. rsunico: SILVER WRX... should i repeat the hate you hate you routine ? phatride01: Chrysler bought the RT back.. kameele: checking e-mail and couldn't resist checking in here celeste2: 8th grade? Moving to bigger things... rsunico: did you lose a lot of money phat? rsunico: have you ordered your WRX? moderator_drew: What RT is this, phatride? phatride01: not at all..they had to give it all back.. moderator_drew: A Stratus? phatride01: it was a stratus RT coupe.. ateixeira: I think your Rex will be better phatride01: awesome car, v6 and all...too bad it was a lemon. kameele: I hope so--I sure don't remember such a fancy ceremony for high school ateixeira: At most you'll have one check engine light in the first year moderator_drew: How's the Legacy? phatride01: I am sure that it will... flj168: How's the WRX compare with the Forester? phatride01: just hope that I did not pay too much.. ateixeira: WRX is a lot more powerful, and a little lighter rsunico: comparing a WRX to a Forester is like comparing apples and oranges.. ateixeira: Forester is bigger and can tow celeste2: WRX=fast Forester=family, friendly phatride01: agreed.. phatride01: I drove the wagon the other day, for about 2 miles...and it seemed nice. rsunico: i found a dealer upstate NY that is selling the WRX for 200-300 above invoice.. 200 if its yellow, 300 for all other colours moderator_drew: Same platform though, but the WRX is based on a completely new version celeste2: Most people aren't deciding between those two. ateixeira: Forester is closer to the Outback Sport, it moved upscale so now they are kind of similar subearu: has joined the chat. ateixeira: Until the next Forester, which should get a little bigger moderator_drew: Brian! kameele: a very quick visit good night all celeste2: I thought yellow was MORE subearu: hola all moderator_drew: G'nite Kevin phatride01: well, I am gonna pay about 24.5 with a few options...1000 better than what someone else was willing to give it to me for.. moderator_drew: Gain one, and lose one rsunico: have there been any prelim photos of 2003 forester? rsunico: which dealer phat? flj168: I saw one at the dealer and they were asking $26k! phatride01: stamford was expensive, rye was cheaper ateixeira: Yellow had some problems matching paint. I saw one in person and found it too pale, but it is rare and will later be more valuable moderator_drew: Not yet Renato, it's a bit early subearu: holy subarus batman rsunico: Stamford is a Rip Off.. I go to Liberty Subaru in Oradell, NJ... celeste2: So they're selling yellow cheaper? ateixeira: 2003 Forester - my eyes are peeled, so far just rumors rsunico: they are pretty decent and low hassle.. and for NJ, friendly phatride01: yeah, I liked the yellow...but I already have speeding problems.. phatride01: yeah, but then I would still have to deal with service in Rye.. ateixeira: I was in Stamford a little while ago - my in laws live in CT. moderator_drew: Yellow is also apparently the easiest colour for the Lidar guns to pick up on rsunico: I think the WRX looks best in Silver or Yellow.. the blue I have to get used to still... celeste2: Be glad they don' t make a hot red! Insurance companies, unite phatride01: that's the closest dealer. moderator_drew: They do make a red, well sort of celeste2: Sort of, is right.... rsunico: its more a maroon.. .which is frankly, blah ateixeira: Blue is their rally color though phatride01: the blue looks nice on the wagon, though.. moderator_drew: Yeah, off red celeste2: yeah, my least favorite color moderator_drew: Blue is nice too moderator_drew: But I'd take the silver wagon rsunico: i was reading a british magazine and they said the same about the um red.. um burgundy... ateixeira: Depends, though, do you want to show off? Stealth? celeste2: That blue is rad to the 3rd power moderator_drew: juice, they race the WRX wagon in the Canadian rally championship moderator_drew: They also have 2 WRX sedans ateixeira: Wagon? Cool moderator_drew: Yup, the only wagon moderator_drew: All in Blue, of course celeste2: I like silver in WRX but not OBS. I like black for that! ateixeira: Love DSL if you can get it! I could not! ;-( rsunico: <-- wet keyboard from slobbering at the thought of a silver WRX wagon phatride01: have owned black cars myself...and tiny scratch is a big one. moderator_drew: They've had a bit of problems with the stock trannies though. It's not suited for hard running w/o using the clutch like the racing trannies ateixeira: <-- green with envy moderator_drew: They've been stuck in gear, or lost gears subearu: saw a new OBS in the Chicago area on Sunday. so I've only seen one WRX and one OBS. rsunico: My Saab convertible is black.. talk about pain to keep clean! celeste2: Black is totally sexy waxed moderator_drew: But they showed footage of them doing a tranny change in 25 minutes moderator_drew: Wow ateixeira: Trannies and probably clutches too, to race you need beefier gear phatride01: yeah, that's the issue with black cars... phatride01: thus, I thought to go with the silver moderator_drew: Yeah, the racing trannies don't have syncromesh moderator_drew: no need to use the clutch vdchawk: My dealer cant do an oil change in 25 minutes celeste2: subearu: I posted pics in the OBS site here. Go back thru & look ateixeira: Black is beautiful, but yes a pain. Even dark green is. rsunico: I sort of felt my Forester getting a tad hard to shift onto 2nd the other day... thought that was strange moderator_drew: You just need to be at certain revs rsunico: and its only 3 weeks old rsunico: i was shifting from 1-2 and not high rev subearu: I know what they look like! just haven't seen many in SE WI. moderator_drew: The World Rally cars use the carbon disc of course moderator_drew: US$600 per pad phatride01: I had the RT (strat) for 12000 miles, and went thru 3 trannies.. celeste2: My car looks like a pygmy. It's name is JuJu phatride01: and this was a brand new car... moderator_drew: They go through two brake pad changes a day ateixeira: Keep an eye on that shifting, though I have not heard of problems with shifting rsunico: anyhow.. good night all... nice talking to everyone and to meeting you ateix.. moderator_drew: Bye Renato, hope to see you next week phatride01: so who else has a WRX? rsunico: by celeste... see you next week.. .and phat i HATE YOU.. kidding. hope your WRX gets to you soon.. and post pics.. ateixeira: Is the Isuzu chat going on? celeste2: subearu: Also try the Yahoo OBS club photo album. Lots there phatride01: I will... phatride01: cannot wait..hehe. celeste2: Bye! phatride01: I figured this was the only other car that was affordable, and fairly quick... ateixeira: Celeste - is yours a manual or auto? Old one was auto? right moderator_drew: Not yet juice phatride01: I got the rear diff protector, so I may just go offroading.. celeste2: I traded a 2000 OBS manual for a 2002 auto. Foot problem ateixeira: I have that diffy cover too, very sturdy. Installed it myself moderator_drew: Isuzu Owners, 7-8pmPT/10-11pmEThttp://www.edmunds.com/chat/isuzuchat.html celeste2: Boy sometimes I miss fast takeoffs with my manual. subearu: I've got a pic in my imagestation album from the chicago auto show. I was merely pointing out that the WRX and the new OBS are very rare in my area. plenty of Outbacks (including mine) and Foresters now. ateixeira: I'm sure one day my knees will get tired, but I will go down kicking and screaming. All 3 in our fleet are manual phatride01: sounds like a plan...know of any off-road environments in NY? wheels13: has joined the chat. moderator_drew: Hi Al! ateixeira: You just missed the Pine Ridge or something like that vdchawk: I miss the shift, until the bumper to bumper NY traffic! celeste2: Yow! I've driven clutch almost 30 years! Heavy traffic moderator_drew: juice, when's that MB powertrip event again in your area? moderator_drew: This weekend? ateixeira: Is it? I have to check my calendar ateixeira: Do you have the URL? celeste2: ateix--you're in DC? ateixeira: Yes, DC phatride01: 5 hours from here...approx. celeste2: Wow. fireworks, 4th of July!! phatride01: depends on how fast I am speeding..hehe. celeste2: I love that area. So much to see! phatride01: the worse thing is, that I will probably get the car next week, and then am going to Florida for a week... ateixeira: paisan and Brian went out to the woods in their Isuzus and Subies, and paisan is organizing another trip to NC soon phatride01: bummer celeste2: I'm in Florida! phatride01: really...cool. celeste2: Nice breakin drive phatride01: I will be in miami.. celeste2: Wow, 4 hours from me! phatride01: well, I am not driving...am flying moderator_drew: Looks like its next weekend, juice moderator_drew: You must take pics celeste2: Good. The state is VERY loooong. phatride01: yeah, tell me about it... phatride01: I drove to SC last year...from NY.. phatride01: that was a nice trip. phatride01: although I had a rental... celeste2: You could probably drive 10-12 hours from Key West and not leave the state phatride01: true...although I am planning to take a trip to the keys.. celeste2: Miami? Vacation? moderator_drew: I saw a green '01 OBS yesterday ateixeira: I'll bring the digital camera, should be fun phatride01: maybe they will rent me a subaru..hehe. moderator_drew: Definitely a different look than the WRX wagon phatride01: yeah, vacation...LOOONG OVERDUE! celeste2: There's some weirdos in Key West, look out! moderator_drew: I'm not sure I like the grill as much in the OBS. Looks tougher for sure celeste2: Go to the docks at sunset. It's a ritual. phatride01: well, my friends and I are no better. ateixeira: I think the new OBS looks handsome. Playful, even celeste2: C'mon, not THAT weird! moderator_drew: I wish it had a hood scoup though moderator_drew: functional or not phatride01: hehe, ok, well, I will have to see what kind of weird they are. celeste2: So, phat, you're getting a silver WRX? phatride01: yup. moderator_drew: The hood looks a bit flat w/o the hood scoup celeste2: Wow, like that color. My 2000 OBS was silver/2tone phatride01: it was either a sedan or wagon...I chose the wagon, cause it has some extra character ateixeira: I've liked the hood scoops all along phatride01: in my opin. moderator_drew: So how does water not get into the WRX's intake on the hood? ateixeira: I say MAKE them functional celeste2: I hate the silver in the new OBS though vdchawk: Just wonder how much the scoop eat into the mileage moderator_drew: I've always wonder that phatride01: yeah, especially with that weird colored edging. ateixeira: The hood scoop feeds the intercooler, so maybe it is just OK to get that wet. Better cooling, even phatride01: I saw some random site where this guy created a guard for the intercooler out of screen material.. moderator_drew: But isn't it still an air intake? phatride01: looked good. ateixeira: No, the intake is at the front of the hood ateixeira: It is well conceived - cold, fresh air comes in phatride01: he claims that it will prevent bugs from denting the intercooler. celeste2: There's a dealie they sell in car mags that lets excess moisture (flood) out of your intake tube) moderator_drew: Oh wait, but doesn't air feed the intercooler too? moderator_drew: Isn't that the idea? moderator_drew: So that the cooler denser air can come in? moderator_drew: And boost power? ateixeira: But isn't that within the tubing? phatride01: it keeps the interc. cooler...that's about all. celeste2: Gotta go for my nightly walk. Bye, all! moderator_drew: I have no idea, LOL, that's why I'm asking moderator_drew: Bye Celeste moderator_drew: The WRC cars have roof scoups for ventilation too moderator_drew: But they're not filtered ateixeira: They make 240hp Foresters in Japan. Can you even imagine? moderator_drew: Richard burns drove through a cloud of dust phatride01: anyway, all, I have to go grab some dinner...just finished staining my new apt. so I am rather hungry...when's the next chat? moderator_drew: and lots of it went into the cabin moderator_drew: Every Thursday, phatride moderator_drew: at 6-7pm Pacific phatride01: gotcha...so 9-10 pm my time. moderator_drew: Yup, that's right ateixeira: I think if I had a WRX as a 3rd car, I'd go all out. Blue, yellow stickers, black headlights, roof scoop, you name it. Then I'd rally cross that bad boy... moderator_drew: Petter Solberg's WRX caught on fire! moderator_drew: and burnt to a crisp phatride01: bummer. moderator_drew: 1/2 million down the drain vdchawk: ouch ateixeira: Subaru took 2nd at the last rally, but has not won yet moderator_drew: They heard some sort of noise moderator_drew: and then lots of smoke moderator_drew: and then they jumped out moderator_drew: Not even enough time to put it out ateixeira: I think the new platform is heavy and they have not sorted it all out yet moderator_drew: This was in the Cypress rally, IIRC moderator_drew: Very rough phatride01: nonetheless, it's time to be out. Later all...and have a great evening. That REALLY sucks, about his car...yikes! moderator_drew: Lots of gravel and rocks ateixeira: Burns was 2nd, right? Or was that the last event? moderator_drew: G'nite phatride moderator_drew: Yup, 2nd moderator_drew: There's a great website ateixeira: What site? moderator_drew: http://www.worldrally-online.com/home.asp ateixeira: I need Speedvision badly! moderator_drew: The Kenya rally is coming up soon too moderator_drew: That ought to be fun moderator_drew: It's always a tough one moderator_drew: and they run through terrain that most SUV drivers won't venture on moderator_drew: As you know ateixeira: Kenya is the toughest one, right? Isn't that the one where they do reconnaissance runs in Foresters? ateixeira: I had a link but it expired. Very cool pics ateixeira: from last year moderator_drew: I think they do all of the runs in the Forester ateixeira: year, sorry moderator_drew: and the WRX moderator_drew: http://www.rally.subaru.com/subral/index.html moderator_drew: Subaru Team USA's website is great too moderator_drew: Nice pics ateixeira: I'll check moderator_drew: I'll have to dig up the Canadian website ateixeira: We should wrap it up. I gotta call my mom - its her b-day moderator_drew: So you can see that WRX wagon that they run moderator_drew: Okay, thanks for joining us everyone! moderator_drew: See you all next week |
