moderator_drew:    Hi Paul

hammersley:    I'm even early!

hammersley:    hi drew... how ya be?

moderator_drew:    Not too bad, how are you?

hammersley:    fine but tired... prepping for a yard sale this weekend

moderator_drew:    A lot of stuff to get rid of?

hammersley:    yes indeed... 9 years of accumulated baby stuff

hammersley:    3 kids worth

moderator_drew:    Heh heh...

moderator_drew:    Advertised in the papers?

moderator_drew:    Or just around the neighbourhood?

hammersley:    and some grown up clothes too... grace has lost about 30-35 pounds!

hammersley:    its in the paper...gonna spread flyers thru the 'hood... and a sign or two out at the main road to direct folks

moderator_drew:    Wow...any non-clothing items?

hammersley:    oh yeah... couch, recliner, kitchen cabinet, old stereo, TV, toys, books...

moderator_drew:    from the garage?

moderator_drew:    Ah, I see

hammersley:    the whole idea is to make room in the garage for... gasp!... a car or two!

moderator_drew:    Another car, or the existing one?

hammersley:    just the ones we have now!

moderator_drew:    They're outside right now?

hammersley:    been parking in the driveway or the pasture since last fall!

moderator_drew:    A lot of that too around my neighbourhood

moderator_drew:    We have two sheds though

hammersley:    stuff breeds.. thats the only possible explanation for how quickly it accumulates

moderator_drew:    So all of the stuff has been dumped in there

hammersley:    i have two sheds too.. one for lawn/garden/snow tires, and one for camping

moderator_drew:    Are your sheds next to each other?

hammersley:    and they're full too! as well as two rental storage units!

moderator_drew:    You have a lot of stuff!

hammersley:    no... one's in the yard, the other's at the back end of our pasture

moderator_drew:    Snow tires?

moderator_drew:    For a Soob?

hammersley:    yup... we get a lot of ice (half-melted, compacted snow.. .at intersections) - and I've always used 'em

moderator_drew:    Same here, but they usually plow it

hammersley:    going to nana's house in the winter is much more fun

moderator_drew:    Compacted snow is the worse, I find

moderator_drew:    especially downhill

paisan:    has joined the chat.

paisan:    Yo Yo Yo

hammersley:    no studs anymore, though

moderator_drew:    Paisan, welcome!

hammersley:    mikey! 'evenin! (tip o'the hat)

moderator_drew:    Paul, I don't like studs since they reduce the tire's surface area

moderator_drew:    on the road

moderator_drew:    Besides, we don't get enough snow here in Vancouver

moderator_drew:    to warrant them

hammersley:    i used to swear by 'em... but I'm converted now

moderator_drew:    The new studless snows like the Arctic Alpins are great

hammersley:    the michelins on the OB aren't worth squat in snow

moderator_drew:    The XW4s?

hammersley:    i have the toyo "observes" - same idea as the alpins

hammersley:    not the xw 4's... x-ones?

moderator_drew:    Oh I thought those were okay in the snow?

ateixeira:    has joined the chat.

moderator_drew:    Hey juice

ateixeira:    Hi guys

kameele:    has joined the chat.

armac13:    has joined the chat.

ateixeira:    Hi Ross

moderator_drew:    Hi Ross and kameele

moderator_drew:    Welcome to the Subaru chat

armac13:    Hi all

paisan:    has joined the chat.

paisan:    So Juice you wanna take the Forester Off-roading?

littlecreek2:    has joined the chat.

ateixeira:    When you goin?

paisan:    July 20-22

paisan:    in NC

littlecreek2:    evening

paisan:    I posted up in the events section.

ateixeira:    NC? What's down there

paisan:    Uwharrie State or National Forrest

moderator_drew:    Hey littlecreek2, welcome to the chat

littlecreek2:    thank you

ateixeira:    It's a possibility

paisan:    The Isuzu guys are going down, and figured I'd invite the subies along as well

ateixeira:    The guests are only here until 6/18

hammersley:    drew: they're x-ones alright... and here's the beer, guys!

paisan:    It's probably not too far a drive from your place

moderator_drew:    Paul, you've replaced them once already?

ateixeira:    Been havin fun with the kids

ateixeira:    My 2 nephews are here with my bro

paisan:    I love foreigners, they always have these really long vacations

hammersley:    nope.. they were on the car when i bought it

ateixeira:    World Bank - got to love it - 28 days off per year

ateixeira:    So I'm off the whole time too

hammersley:    previous owner must have replaced

paisan:    well, I have 17 + 10 sick days

littlecreek2:    is there a specific topic ?

ateixeira:    That is very good for the USA

paisan:    Yeah considering I just started there last year

ateixeira:    Guess what - we got all 3 kids in the back seat of the Forester

hammersley:    i work 9 24-hour shifts/month

moderator_drew:    Paul, you bought the OB used?

hammersley:    drew, yes. it's a 97, bought it 2/23/2000, 53k miles on the clock

paisan:    No particular topic, we always randomly discuss stuff!

ateixeira:    Car seats and all. two toddler seats on the sides, a booster in the middle

ateixeira:    I took photos just in case you would not believe that 3 kids would fit in the "useless" rear seat

hammersley:    has joined the chat.

ateixeira:    has joined the chat.

armac13 2:    has joined the chat.

kameele 2:    has joined the chat.

ateixeira:    I was saying - we got 3 kids in the back seat, I even took photos

kameele 2:    can't win, something hung up and i have to come back as"2"

ateixeira:    The kids have a blast together

ateixeira:    Hey - one of my Hella H4+30s burned out. Low beam only. Did not last very long at all

armac13 2:    First time I've been a "2"

kameele 2:    I feel a little less incompetent (sic)

moderator_drew:    Oops, something messed up

littlecreek2:    Im new to your site, can I ask a question?

armac13 2:    ask away

paisan:    Shoot any questions you want out

ateixeira:    Shoot creek

hammersley 2:    must be a left coast thing!

paisan:    we'll surely give our $2M worth

littlecreek2:    thank ya all

moderator_drew:    Yeah, that could be!

littlecreek2:    a new vehicle

ateixeira:    Which vehicle?

littlecreek2:    & Ive been searching the web for a good buy

littlecreek2:    Subaru Outback

hammersley 2:    anyway, drew...before we were so rudely interrupted...

ateixeira:    My cousin has a 99 and my dad a 2001 - they are nice

hammersley 2:    my OB's a 97, bought 2/23/00 with 53k miles

ateixeira:    Where are you located?

littlecreek2:    4 hours

paisan:    My uncle has a '97 and my cousin has an '00

littlecreek2:    NY- midstate

hammersley 2:    i'm getting some lag here

drew_:    Ah, no wonder you have the X-one

paisan:    Little creek!

moderator_drew:    has joined the chat.

ateixeira:    paisan can probably help

paisan:    If you want to travel to NYC, my dealer will give you a great deal

ateixeira:    Drew - my Hella H4+30 burned out. Low beam on driver side. Isn't that unusually early?

hammersley 2:    and i've been getting a lot of use out of the "utility" portion of Sport Utility Wagon this last couple weeks!

ateixeira:    You think Ken will send a free replacement?

moderator_drew:    juice, yes, a bit early

seamdoggie 2:    has joined the chat.

moderator_drew:    Normally these should last a while

moderator_drew:    Yeah, no harm asking

paisan:    Probably Juice, if ask nicely

littlecreek2:    well can I ask my local dealer to get my dream vehicle from up the road? and at their price & financing?

ateixeira:    I was surprised...

paisan:    I had one hella go on my subie

ateixeira:    And I have been a loyal customer (Forester, then Miata)...

paisan:    Yeah, the problem is that dealers don't have to swap cars

ateixeira:    Or should I give up and try the Phillips?

moderator_drew:    Try the Phillips

moderator_drew:    The VisionPlus

paisan:    My dealer usually orders cars cause he can usually cut a better deal on ones he orders

moderator_drew:    that's my vote anyway

littlecreek2:    I realize they dont have to, but is it kosher to ask?

ateixeira:    I will if Ken does not replace it free

moderator_drew:    But you would want a pair, not just one obviously

paisan:    Well, there is no way to really ask, I mean you can tell em "I want X, Y, Z options"

ateixeira:    Yeah, and the extra could be a spare for the Miata

paisan:    and they'll find it in the computer at the dealer up the road

hammersley 2:    buy the pair, then keep the oddball one as an emergency spare

paisan:    but then the dealer who has the car won't necessarily give it up

moderator_drew:    Doesn't your Miata use the 90/100 watt ones?

ateixeira:    Will do. Disappointed at the life span of the bulb

littlecreek2:    Paisan? where in NYC?

ateixeira:    No, the Miata has the same ones, exact same. 9004

littlecreek2:    I see!

paisan:    Staten Island

littlecreek2:    Albany

moderator_drew:    9004s are not H4s though

paisan:    If you have a pen and paper, write down his #0023

moderator_drew:    My van has 9004s, they stink

paisan:    Mark 718-979-9595

ateixeira:    Go for it creek - paisan has referred probably dozens of people there

hammersley 2:    agree mike

moderator_drew:    I agree! All of the 900x bulbs are not very good

paisan:    In the albany Area, Goldstein is the best for up there.

ateixeira:    I should have said H4s. They are the same, I'm sure

moderator_drew:    Not just in my opinion, but in the experts opinion too

ateixeira:    Remember - I got e-codes for the Miata

hammersley 2:    soon as one of mine poof... its off to the light brigade

littlecreek2:    thanks, any idea on the 2001 outback wagon, Paisan?

moderator_drew:    Interestingly, Hondas still use 900x bulbs

moderator_drew:    No idea why....

paisan:    unfortunately, I can't even get anything but 9004s, there is no HX equivalent to 9004

kate5000:    has joined the chat.

moderator_drew:    Hi kate!

hammersley 2:    AVALANCHE SCORE! 2-0 Colorado!

moderator_drew:    mike, your Trooper uses 9004s?

paisan:    yep

kate5000:    Hi everyone

ateixeira:    creek -the 2001 got some new stuff - map pocket, bigger brakes, temp gauge

paisan:    and the trooper has horrible optics on top of it

moderator_drew:    Most e-code lights are H4s

moderator_drew:    but the newer ones are H7s

ateixeira:    My dad's is nice. The 2002 may get only very minor changes

hammersley 2:    sorry.. got carried away there for a sec..

littlecreek2:    Ateixeira & paisan- Ive seen your postings in the dealers & prices room

moderator_drew:    Paul, it may take a while for your lights to go poof

ateixeira:    We are regulars, creek

paisan:    creek, he'll cut you a good deal, basically if he quotes you a price over the phone, and tell him the mike sent you, that is the price he'll give you when you sign the papers

hammersley 2:    or maybe when W. sends me the check

moderator_drew:    The bulbs in the van lasted 6 years, even with DRLs

paisan:    no funny stuff like "oh we need deliver, prep etc. money"

kameele 2:    I don't think you can avoid them anywhere in here

ateixeira:    H4s? Hella?

ateixeira:    What about the higher wattage bulbs? You think they'd be OK?

moderator_drew:    Apparently E-code lamps/wiring can stand up to the higher wattage

littlecreek2:    really, sounds too good to be true

kameele 2:    no, juice and paisan

moderator_drew:    but not the N.American spec bulbs

ateixeira:    BTW, I have one OE bulb in there now - big difference, I was spoiled

moderator_drew:    lamps

hammersley 2:    that's it! 600 bucks would cover lights...new tint job... speakers.... horn...

paisan:    I'm actually working on getting headlights from the Holden Jackaroo sent over for my Trooper

moderator_drew:    mike, did you ever find out how much the e-codes are for the Trooper?

hammersley 2:    thank you Mr. President!

kens:    has joined the chat.

armac13 2:    Hi Ken

moderator_drew:    I'm not going to bother with the halogens anymore

kens:    Hello

paisan:    So far looks around $350 AUS

ateixeira:    You really ought to get Jackaroo labels. What a hilarious name, I love it!

moderator_drew:    I have the Piaa Platinum Superwhite H3s for the foglamps and they're great, but the low beams are still stock H7s

littlecreek2:    Ive been researching since Feb. Thought I wanted the Legacy wagon- Then got a good peek at the OB- & not the fancy shmansy ones either, plain old, plain old.

moderator_drew:    Bi-Xenons are coming out in a couple of months

ateixeira:    Thanks for the speakers, pal. Elmo sounds just as bad as ever!

moderator_drew:    350 for a pair? or each?

moderator_drew:    I would think each?

kens:    Hey, no problem, can you still hear?

paisan:    Each

ateixeira:    Yeah, I'll live

paisan:    Creek, what part of albany you in?

kens:    Drew, talking about bulbs again?

paisan:    I have a house up near there

ateixeira:    BTW - we got 3 kids in the back seat, with child seats and a booster in the middle

moderator_drew:    juice started it ken!

moderator_drew:

ateixeira:    It was great, I got photos even

littlecreek2:    burbs

moderator_drew:    One of his Hellas blew

hammersley 2:    juice: i have a killer stereo for sale in my yard sale this weekend.... imagine 80 watts per channel of elmo?

ateixeira:    Ken - one of my Hella went (they beat me to it)

paisan:    I'm probably not gonna go for the E-codes, since the Hella 4000s work just fine and dandy

kens:    Get the Philips, juice!

seamdoggie:    has joined the chat.

paisan:    tested em out on my trip to MI

moderator_drew:    But you can't use those on the road. Or can you?

ateixeira:    80w/channel of HELLmo you mean?

subearu:    has joined the chat.

moderator_drew:    Aren't they driving lamps?

moderator_drew:    Hi Brian

moderator_drew:    Welcome back Sean

kate5000:    Paisan, how many houses do you have?

kens:    HELLmo! LOL!

subearu:    hello all

hammersley 2:    BIG speakers!

ateixeira:    Very sorry folks, but duty calls

paisan:    They are Driving lamps, I have them wired up to my high beams

moderator_drew:    sean

hammersley 2:    studio monitors blaring barney! Yes!

paisan:    when I click onto the highbeams, you get 2 100w 9004s + the Hella 4000s with 135w each

moderator_drew:    Can you turn on the 4000s w/o the high beams?

paisan:    I have only 2 houses!

hammersley 2:    i have one house, but stuff enough for two

kens:    Kate, your Forester looks great -- they did a good job!

kameele 2:    I don't have the same level of excuse, just an impatient dog --good night all

kate5000:    wow (for paisan)

paisan:    Nah, i have the 4000s wired to be triggered by the highbeams

paisan:    I don't own either of them though

kens:    Drew, did you get my email about the MB Power Trip?

kate5000:    Um, those were old pix for newbees on the board to see...

paisan:    the 4000s make my high beams look like dim glowing lights compared to the 9.5" reflector of the 4000s

kens:    Doh!

kens:    So, how did it turn out, Kate?

paisan:    Hey any of you guys in the east, if you are interested in doing some off-roading, definitely look in the events section

moderator_drew:    Ken, yes I just found it

kate5000:    It's kind of okay, small blemishes on paint here and there, but overall ok

moderator_drew:    Glad that you had a good time

kens:    it was a blast. thanks, again

kate5000:    Ross, how's Rufus doing?

kens:    Hey guys, I just ordered some Hella Supertones for the Forester

armac13 2:    Really well Kate.

moderator_drew:    I just got a new router/switch for the cable modem, so no more proxy server

moderator_drew:    Yay!

armac13 2:    He's happy with the new roof and makes no demands

moderator_drew:    It's a lot faster and more reliable too

kens:    I had the Fiamm Highway Blasters but didn't like the way they sounded

moderator_drew:    How many Hz, Ken?

kens:    Drew -- isn't cable awesome?

paisan:    I wired in the Hella triple trumpet air-horns

moderator_drew:    Ken, yes it is...I've had it for 5 years now

kens:    Drew -- high 500Hz and low 300Hz

paisan:    in parallel with the stock ones on the troopa

armac13 2:    Kate, does your silver beauty have a name yet?

moderator_drew:    Ah, mine are 500Hz and 400Hz

hammersley 2:    ken, tell me about the horns... i'm looking

kens:    Cool, air horns

moderator_drew:    Stock...

moderator_drew:    Air horns would be nice

hammersley 2:    drew.. i'm on a good o'l POTS

kate5000:    Ross, if he doesn't want any gas, then please train my Forester the same tricks

moderator_drew:    Broadband not available, Paul?

kens:    well, the Hella Supertones are basically LOUD disc type horns

hammersley 2:    air horns... maker me sound like one of my fire trucks! hehe

paisan:    I tell you what, the Air-horns have saved me from at least 1/2 dozen accidents

armac13 2:    I train dogs, not cars

moderator_drew:    Well in NYC I can understand, LOL

hammersley 2:    broadband is avail... but $$... too far from the CO for DSL

kate5000:    Ross, I'm kind of torn between different (male) names...

kens:    http://catalog.com/susq/hella/85115.htm

paisan:    most of the time they've come in handy on the highway and in friggin shopping malls

armac13 2:    Rufus has a bit of a thirst - my only complaint

kate5000:    it did not name himself yet, that's for sure

moderator_drew:    Home is not expensive here...same price if I continued to keep a separate phone line + ISP

kens:    for me, it's on the freeway

hammersley 2:    are they simply bolt-on, plug-in and go?

paisan:    83mph going to MI last weekend!

moderator_drew:    Ross, for 82.9 cent regular?

kens:    I believe so, you can use the existing wiring

hammersley 2:    i have to remember the extra phone line cost... and factor that in

littlecreek2:    driving what Paisan?

paisan:    My troopa

armac13 2:    79.9 two hours ago here

moderator_drew:    Wow already? It was still 72.7 up here

moderator_drew:    Coquitlam

kens:    Here's a link on the install from Mark's page http://www.remarcable.net/misc/legacy_outback/mods/hella/supertones.html

littlecreek2:    Hammer- dont forget the cost of running line from pole to house too! What a shock I had when they quoted

hammersley 2:    we're at about $1.60/gal US in spokane

armac13 2:    What names Kate?

paisan:    In MI it was $1.96 for 87

moderator_drew:    You can click on the link above

kens:    CA $2.06 for 87

moderator_drew:    and it will open in a new window automatically

paisan:    NJ it's about $1.55 for 87

kate5000:    Ross, somehow name Arnold comes to mind...

littlecreek2:    $1.67 to $1.78 87 locally.

armac13 2:    Benedict??

hammersley 2:    i just need something louder than the anemic thing that thinks its a horn

kate5000:    Costco for 87

armac13 2:    Our gas prices work out to be about $2 US

kens:    Bob, the cheapest is to go to a local Pep boys and buy a Fiamm Highway Blaster

kens:    It's like $12 for one and makes a huge improvement. I just wanted something LOUDER!

hammersley 2:    our local pep boys went gunny sack last year

kens:    Bob -- can be any auto parts store

armac13 2:    Kate, wasn't there a TV pig named Arnold?

hammersley 2:    imagine a full-size air horn... in a subaru!

paisan:    http://www.isuzu-suvs.com/trooper/horn-nudge.html

moderator_drew:    On the roof!

kens:    it was super easy -- just remove the stock horns and plug in the new ones

armac13 2:    Don't want the wrong associations

hammersley 2:    nah... in the way of the bike rack...

hammersley 2:    would want it hidden... more fun that way

kate5000:    Oh Ross, you're probably right... I'm back searching for names!

paisan:    I just wired the hot lead of the hella relay into the relay under the hood for my stock horns

hammersley 2:    remember the movie where the guys in the cop car scared the nuns in the crosswalk?

armac13 2:    I don't mean to be a wet blanket, Kate

paisan:    so if i needed to remove them, they would be 99% clear

paisan:    The stock + Air-horns make a nice wide range of tone

paisan:    and the air-horns are LOUD!

hammersley 2:    i'd never target nuns...stupid drivers, for sure, though!

hammersley 2:    i might wake em up!

paisan:    My buddy nearly made me deaf when I was checking tire pressure he hit the horn

kens:    I need the loud horns for the idiots who drive while chatting on their cell phones and merge lanes without looking

paisan:    [hella 4000s] Drew the nice thing about having them wired into the highbeam switch is that when I "flash to pass" they also light up

paisan:    I hear yah Ken, same thing happens to me

moderator_drew:    mike, the person in front probably would see you, LOL

littlecreek2:    or those who drive 6 blocks with a signal on

moderator_drew:    My foglamps turn off automatically even when the flash-to-pass feature is used

kate5000:    I'm thinking of maybe selling my Loyale'92... what do you think: good/bad idea?

paisan:    [Hella 4000s] The other nice thing is they have 5w city bulbs in mine, so I can leave the covers on them and the 5w bulbs are wired into my parking lights and it illuminates the hella covers or the reflector with the parking lights on

moderator_drew:    so if I flick the stalk, I can get them the foglamps to cycle on and off with the high beams

moderator_drew:    like a police car

kens:    Mike -- was installing the relays for the Hellas a major task?

littlecreek2:    wig wags they call'em

paisan:    Nah, the relay for the hella is easy

kens:    Drew -- every pull anyone over?

hammersley 2:    drew's a wanna be! wig wags, air horns!

moderator_drew:    No, ken, LOL

moderator_drew:    That wouldn't be a good idea

hammersley 2:    prolly has a dog cage too!

paisan:    If they ignore the hella 4000s, then I use the air-horns

moderator_drew:    Wig wags eh...now I know Might as well get the strobe lamps in, heh heh

hammersley 2:    i had an 83 accord...dark gray... when i was a volunteer FF/PM, i was authorized for green ID lights

paisan:    The wiring of the air-horns is real simple, you wire from the horns to the relay, then the relay has a ground, Hot from battery and hot trigger wire

paisan:    you wire the hot battery one to the battery directly

moderator_drew:    Green ID lights where, Paul?

littlecreek2:    are air horns legal? You know with all the "sound pollution" talk?

moderator_drew:    In an Accord...that would've been something to see!

paisan:    and the hot trigger wire to a 12+V switch or to your existing horns, or like me I jammed it into the relay under the hood for the stock horns

hammersley 2:    drew: Spokane County

hammersley 2:    green light is Authorized in washington as ID for volunteer FF

paisan:    Legal? I never worry about legal

hammersley 2:    dark gray, with black steel wheels...

littlecreek2:    lol

kens:    Mike -- Cool. Well, the Supertones should be a direct swap -- let me see how those go

moderator_drew:    One of the ML owners is a volunteer fireman/paramedic in Texas so he has strobes in the lamps of his ML, and a whelan blue/red light set mounted on the brushguard. I'm told it looks really good

hammersley 2:    legal? we don't need no stinkin' legal!

paisan:    <- been pulled over 30x for speeding, 25 non-tickets, 2 tickets for non-moving, 3 out of state movers that never came back to NY

hammersley 2:    i'd love to have strobes in the taillights & headlight housings...stealth!

paisan:    I also have tinted front windows on the trooper too

littlecreek2:    bad, bad, bad to the bone!

kens:    Mike -- you renegade, you!

paisan:    so my horns and lights are the least of my worries

moderator_drew:    Those are pretty easy to install though aren't they Paul? Autotoys.com sells strobes. All you do is drill a hole in the lamp reflector and mount them inside

kens:    Hey, so did you guys catch that "hint" that Patti dropped about a future "Blitzen" like Legacy GT?

hammersley 2:    hardest part is routing the wires... the boxes & lights mount up easy enough

littlecreek2:    jeesh, I had heart failure a month ago when I got pulled over for the first time in my 15 year driving career

hammersley 2:    last time i got pulled over.. it was a friend saying hello!

paisan:    It's easy to get out of the tickets, just have to be prepared

subearu:    ok, back now (baby was crying). yes, ken, I hope what patti says is true

hammersley 2:    my wife used to dispatch for WSP... the fact that i was going 72 in a 55 meant nothing..

paisan:    I read a book written by a trooper once and it hasn't failed me yet

paisan:    plus my uncle's PBA card

moderator_drew:    Ken, are you interested in what Patti said?

moderator_drew:

kens:    Sharon -- I know what you mean about heart attack. Had my first speeding ticket two years ago

kate5000:    which book Mike?

paisan:    it was a book about getting out of tickets

kens:    Drew, juuust a little bit

littlecreek2:    Paid a hefty fine, but got no points, whooooo

paisan:    Basically the key is to make the cop feel safe, that you aren't gonna pull a gun and shoot him

kens:    keep your hands on the wheel

moderator_drew:    But it has to have a manual eh?

littlecreek2:    may work where you live Mike.

paisan:    yeah, for me it's the points/insurance, not the actual ticket that is the hard part.

hammersley 2:    i'm pretty safe around here... cops & Fire dept work pretty close

hammersley 2:    plus, i dont go THAT fast

moderator_drew:    Oh BTW, the Canadian Subaru rally team is running a WRX wagon

kens:    I used one of those internet traffic schools to erase my ticket

paisan:    Littlecreek, I've been pulled over up in the adirondacks by troopers

moderator_drew:    They have two WRX sedans, and the one wagon

moderator_drew:    They've having a bit of transmission problems with the WRXs though

paisan:    I generally don't go too fast

kens:    It was soooo much easier than going to traffic school

wishbone2001:    has joined the chat.

paisan:    76-77 in 65 zones

moderator_drew:    Two of them had failures....had to swap out the tranny

moderator_drew:    it was stuck in 3rd gear

paisan:    out of state i push it closer to15mph over the limit

hammersley 2:    around town i'm pretty mellow...no more than 5 over

paisan:    in town no more than 10 over

paisan:    also i don't use a radar detector

littlecreek2:    I was on the Canadian border 3 Hours North of Albany kids & hubby in car. He said 70 in 55- I know I wasnt over 62

hammersley 2:    maybe 10 over on the interstate if traffic allows

paisan:    that is the easiest way to get a ticket

kens:    80-85 in 65 zones

kens:    in town, I keep the limit

paisan:    Last weekend going to MI I was doing no less than 82-83 going out on 80 in 65 zones

paisan:    in MI where it was 70 I was doing 85-90 and they were all passing me

hammersley 2:    i get in a pack once in awhile... over to seattle in a pack of 7 or 8 cars... 85 all the way over! fine!

littlecreek2:    Im a safe driver too! had the same car since 1988 (new then), & knock on wood, no accidents

kens:    Sharon -- happens to the best of us eventually

paisan:    Got my XT6 up to it's highest ever

paisan:    last night on the meadowbrook parkway in LI

armac13 2:    Good word Paul

littlecreek2:    need a mom-mobile now though

paisan:    4500rpms

kens:    is that rev or speed limited?

paisan:    following an i-club member in his RS

littlecreek2:    paisan

hammersley 2:    mom-mobiles are the ones that can be sneaky fast!

kens:    106 -- a flying wedge!

kate5000:    Mike did you get XT6 fixed? I thought it died...

paisan:    It wasn't the limit, just didn't want to run into the other cars on the pkwy

moderator_drew:    What kind of AWD system does the XT6 have again? Permanent or full-time?

hammersley 2:    grace's villager will run 80+ all day with nary a complaint

paisan:    yeah the XT6 is running, re-did the air-suspension to non-air

paisan:    then I blew the timing belt

paisan:    the XT6 has 4eat w/ AWD

kens:    heard about those problematic air-suspensions

paisan:    same as the 1st and 2nd gen legacies

hammersley 2:    3-zip avalanche!

littlecreek2:    I must be going soon. Please tell me if ya'll meet any other time? and where?

paisan:    Well the problem is the rubber on the air-bags for the suspension eventually deteriorate

moderator_drew:    So what happened to the XT6 then? Did the timing belt damage anything?

hammersley 2:    we're here every week,LC

paisan:    once it's cracked you are finished

moderator_drew:    I think MBz uses polyurethane for the air suspension bags

paisan:    nah the H6 2.7 is non-interference

moderator_drew:    littlecreek, yes every Thursday at 6-7pm Pacific

moderator_drew:    the link to the chat is at the top of all of the Subaru pages

hammersley 2:    tell him about the friday thing, too, drew!

littlecreek2:    thanks again, all-- Great chat

kate5000:    LC, we also have a Subaru Crew message board

paisan:    I've been auto-xing the XT6 this season

paisan:    and just bought an '88 Mazda MX6 5-speed

paisan:    of course i got the MX6 cause it's in H-stock for auto-x

kens:    Mike -- how much effort is it to start autocrossing? What do you need to do?

paisan:    and next year all subarus except for the 2.5rs and WRX will be in H-stock

paisan:    Auto-x is great

kens:    that's something I'd like to try someday

paisan:    all you do is show up

aquicky:    has joined the chat.

paisan:    and make sure that there is nothing that isn't bolted down in your car

paisan:    It's a blast

kens:    do you need a helmet?

paisan:    you need a helmet but they always have loaner ones

moderator_drew:    Ken, probably recommended

hammersley 2:    drew... those macros are great!

paisan:    $200/each

paisan:    I figure I'll keep borrowing for a while

moderator_drew:    Paul, actually it's just simple cut and paste

kens:    How about tools, gear?

moderator_drew:    No problem Brian

paisan:    nah, no need for anything special

paisan:    just have to wear a helmet

paisan:    and they do a tech inspection

kens:    How about the vehicle? what restrictions?

paisan:    so you need to take out everything including floor mats

paisan:    that could get tossed around the car

moderator_drew:    FYI, the chat transcript will be available soon

moderator_drew:    so that those of you who miss the chats

moderator_drew:    can catch up if you like

paisan:    they don't allow any 4x4 trucks or SUVs

hammersley 2:    me too.. gotta BBQ burgers for the clan

kens:    How easy is it for a total novice to try it?

paisan:    other than that, no other restrictions

paisan:    Very easy

kens:    Hmmm. Wonder if they consider the Forester an SUV?

hammersley 2:    plus... you don't buy beer... you rent it!

moderator_drew:    No SUVs? I've seen ML55s and X5s in autocross

paisan:    they have all the novices walk around with someone before you start and basically walk you through it

paisan:    Not in SCCA Auto-x

moderator_drew:    Ah not SCCA of course

hammersley 2:    cheers, y'all... g'night!

paisan:    Nah the Forester isn't considered an SUV

kens:    cool, maybe someday

paisan:    It's awesome

kens:    ever seen a Forester at an auto-x?

paisan:    I'm actually trying to do time trials this year

kens:    do people who come to these things have souped up vehicles?

paisan:    which is a step further, it's on a track, and you get a 20 minute warm up with other drivers on the course, and then you get 2 laps alone

paisan:    There is everything from mom's accord to Vipers

paisan:    to formula 1 cars

paisan:    it's a ton of fun, just to see what everyone else has

kens:    Wow, I've gotta try this someday!

kens:    Okay, now you've given me something to think about

paisan:    and to see what you can beat

kens:    sorry, you don't actually pass, do you?

paisan:    it's always a nice feeling to say "wow, I beat a porsche boxster?"

paisan:    In auto-x there is only 1 car out at a time

paisan:    it's all timed

paisan:    so you race each other, but via the clock

kens:    I see

paisan:    I just wish my XT6 was a 5-speed

kens:    how do you find out about local events?

paisan:    where do you live?

kens:    Bay Area, CA

kens:    San Mateo to be exact

paisan:    a good start would be www.scca.org

kens:    okay, i'll check it out

kens:    do you mess your vehicle up at these things?

kens:    or is it usually tame?

paisan:    it's tame

paisan:    although i've seen people almost roll VWs

paisan:    and someone rolled a VW a few weeks ago in philly

paisan:    but it was his own fault

kens:    yikes!

paisan:    had racing tires with stock suspension

kens:    wonder if insurance would cover that

paisan:    and didn't back out of the slalom once he had started to skid

kens:    is your XT6 stock? (other than the non-air sus)

paisan:    yeah, I have it pretty much bone stock

paisan:    I put yokohama avs intermediate tires on it

kens:    Drew, thanks for hosting!

moderator_drew:    See you all in the boards

moderator_drew:    G'nite
