I have 70k on my 05 highlander and haven't changed pads. I have driven a Camry and an Avalon to 95k and 105k before changing pads. Almost entirely suburban driving.

"...why change to a different.."

Because many of us want brake pads that EAT rotors for lunch and vice versa. The best braking frictional capability hardly ever result in pads that last beyond 30-40,000 miles.

The British phrase "horses for courses" would seem to apply to the question of whether aggressive brake pads are better than stock ones. I like more aggressive pads on my Miata . . . the Highlander seems to do fine with stock brakes.

You're apparently assuming there will NEVER come a time when you need a level of braking aggressiveness in you HL that you often need in the Miata.

Considering 2006 HL by irishcasey

I have a 2002 V6 that is using above average amounts of oil. I am considering trading in for a 2006 HL.

Can anyone tell me if there are noted problem items with the 2006 to be aware of? Also, is the 2006 V6 the same engine I'm having trouble with in my 2002?

Any pros vs. cons on the 4 cyl vs. the 6 cyl. The 4 cyl is more in my price range.

Thanks in advance to all.

I bought a new 2005 with a V6 thinking that I would need the V6 for towing and that it got only 1 mile less per gallon than the 4. I have since driven my dad's 2002 4 cyl. and much prefer the 4 over the 6. It doesn't jump when accelerating, overall smoother. I can't believe your 2002 is using any oil.???

Before considering trading the 2002 for a 2006, let's discuss why the 2002 is using above average amounts of oil. Have you had anyone check the engine to see where the oil is going? How many miles are on the engine? The oil usage could be caused by wear and tear, high milage, or it could be from other causes such as a
the PVC valve sucking engine oil out of the engine or oil leaking out somewhere.
If there is a serious problem with the engine using oil, it may be best to trade in the 2002. If the engine is reasonably fixable, it may be best to keep the 2002.

HELP!!! 2002 highlander driver sun visor by gigix2

During a 75,000 tune up I asked about fixing the driver sun visor that won't stay up towards the windshield. I was quoted $699 for the visor w/ homelife feature...I was
AMAZED at the price---I ordered a replacement PLAIN visor from the parts dept. for
$71 and still think that's high. Any ideas about where to get one for less and/or others who have same problem and ideas on how to stabilize the visor without replacing it? .

I'd appreciate any suggestions. Thanks...you may reply to my email--
