I've owned two Audis in the past. I loved both cars, especially the TT Roadster, but I wouldn't have owned either of them without the Audi warranty and maintenance plan. Why? As much fun as they were, they spent lots of time in the shop and the mechanics' bill ran in the thousands. Even an oil change cost twice that of a Honda.

Audi A4 - lease ja, buy nein ? by mark_wny

I recently visited an Audi dealer and asked, 'what proportion of the cars are leased vs. sold?' I was stunned when the salesman replied, 'about 90% are lease deals.' I have noticed that all the 'special offers' on the Audi website are leases. On the A4 Reliability forum, the consensus seems to be that the cars are wonderful up to about 50K miles, but then are finished.
To a non-Audiphile, this raise a question: can a car that is functional for only 50K miles (half the lifetime of a regular car) really be a valid prospect in any market?

Mark, I'll share with you my experience which it touches a good point you mentioned. I leased my A4 1.8 on January 2005 (39 months Lease, 50K warranty and scheduled maintance included up to 50k) My lease allowed me 15k miles per year. Since I have a work horse (1994 celica) which I use it together with the Audi, I thought that I would never used my mileage this early, but because I had to lend my beloved Celica to a family member for almost 5 months, that made me go over the mileage. I right now have 53k in the Audi and I still have 5 more months until the lease is over....and guess what? since I have the celica back, the A4 sits in my garage as I am scared to death to drive it because the warranty expired.

I can share the same feeling of some people in this forum, nice car to drive and "own" during the lease/warranty period, but it does make you feel uneasy after the warranty period expires. Of course I feel this way due to 5 unscheduled trips to the dealer to fix a: vacuum system problem, replacing the gas tank, three trips for the engine light "on" and another for loss of power in the middle of the Lincoln Tunnel. Other than that it is a magnificent car to drive, and that that I only have the anemic 1.8L.

You know what, it is almost like being in an abusive relationship, you know you are going to get hurt, but boy what a fun car to drive Audis are. I am even comtemplating in leasing (this time I will not lend my other car and I will only lease it for 36 months-I learned my lesson) the B8 when it comes out..........I know I know......hey I've told you gang, it is indeed a Masochist relationship

Thanks Jorge for your input. This raises an issue: what are we paying extra for in a German car? When I was a kid, the word was 'sure, a Mercedes costs more - but it will last a lifetime.' Well, we now know that none of the German cars will last a lifetime; as for the Audi, it will last maybe 4 to 5 years - not a heck of a lot. Here in Western NY, there are lots of 10 year-old Cadillacs, Lincolns, Buicks, Nissans and Hondas, giving their owners trouble-free transport.

I bought this car in July and I have noticed some stuff that I think are unusual. First off, the clutch it's way too "smooth" which means that I have to be very careful when releasing the clutch especially on first gear and reverse if not the car would just die. Also, I can touch the acelerator pedal all the way down to the floor without any noticeable change of speed. Have any of you experienced this on your cars? The service department keeps saying the car meets all the specs, but when I asked the salesman to drive the car, the car just died on him because he released the clutch too fast. He told the service dept. that the car was not driving the same way the test drive car does and asked them to fix it (I had test driven another car which really impressed me. the car I got it's just in a different color. Didn't test drive thinking it would drive the same way). The service guy said they will not fix the car.

Please let me know if you have experienced the same. And also if you could tell me what my options are or what should I do. I'm not happy nor impressed with my car at all. Thanks.

Looking at a 2008 Audi A4 2.0 Quattro with the following specs:
Automatic
Nav w/ipod
Bose pkg
leather int
premium
convenience
bluetooth
heated front seats
MSRP is 38775. We're looking at a 36 mos lease with 3k down. We've been shopping a lot of dealers and they are all coming around $440-490 a month. I don't want to leave money on the table but I feel like there is more room to negotiate. Anyone seen a deal similar or better?

a4 2007 base or 2006 stocked more miles by callum

HI there,
would appreciate your opinions on which to go for.
looking to buy a CPO A4, 2 options: 2006 2.0T quattro with premium package and cold weather package and 20,000 on the clock, or a 2007 2.0T quattro with 130 miles but base model no premium or cold weather package. the 2006 will work out $1000-2000 cheaper. I'm in boston - and am going to put a lot of miles on commuting, 25K each year. weighing up the more room on the 100,000 warranty versus the extra package. The cloth seats felt quite comfortable to me, and never had seated heats before so not sure if it means that much to me - and I should take the car that's got less miles and prob not been thrashed before.
what do you think?
thanks much

kind of surprised the audi I looked at nearly 2 months ago was still on the lot. Struck a deal on it, dealer dropped to invoice pricing; gave me a bit more than wholesale on an 02 jetta with 140K miles and got audi care in deal. also got the 5yr/100,000 warranty. I want to get the rubber floor mats; parts dept was closed and they are usually ordered. Any idea on what these should be ($105 on audi site)?
Car is black on black with 6 speed manual, leather, bluetooth and ipod. Can't get the bluetooth to pair with my tmobile dash and my ipod has a USB interface, so I don't think it will work. As a storm was moving in, I opted out of clean up until a better day.
If you are in the market for an Audi, the dealers are really willing to work with you now. Great Christmas present .

I normally hate shopping for a car the whole experience sucks and I always feel pressured to to make a decision right then and now. Well with Jackson Audi in Hawaii there was none of that. I told them I was thinking about an A4 the salesman said he had one that just came out of the demo program. it was the 2.0T with tiptronic with almost every option under the sun I still dont know what all this car has. Well they gave me 23000 for my 2005 F105 lariat and then sold me the Audi for 23000 and it only has 5400 miles on it. Talk about a deal. When I decided it was the car for me I called the dealership and said I would take it and to get the paperwork ready. By the time I got there all the paperwork was drawn up and the car was detailed and fuel was topped off. It was the best buying experience I have ever had.
