BUSINESS WEEK, 14 MAR 2005: "Hot Audi" "...the division [Audi] accounted for nearly 100% of VW Group's net earnings last year. In 2004 the average operating profit per car at Audi was $1,374, while Volkswagen brand cars, suffering from high costs, model mistakes, and an aging fleet, lost an average $13 per vehicle...". ++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ DER SPIEGEL (english site), 12 JUL 2004: "Turning up the Heat in Wolfsburg" "Automobile industry: For the VW group, the whole basis of its business is crumbling away: Customers are no longer accepting the carmaker's high prices. A drastic programme of savings is intended to come to the rescue. The aim is for costs to be reduced by altogether three billion euros.". ++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ |

Replying to: jstawski (Mar 08, 2005 1:46 pm) Capitalized Cost: The negotiated price of the car Residual Value: Value of the vehicle at the end of the lease term (sometimes expressed in a percentage). This is set by the leasing company and cannot be negotiated. Money Factor: The effective interest rate. Multiply by 2400 to get the equiv APR. This is typically set by the leasing company, but dealers sometimes build a little profit here. 2. Do not put anything down (aka cap cost reduction). I won't get into details, but there is risk making a cap cost reduction. You may have to pay a security deposit, acquistion fee, and first month's payment and that's OK. 3. Determine the length of lease (typically 36, 39, 42, and 48 months) and the number of miles (typically 10k or 15k per year). 4. Navigate to car_man's lease thread on edmunds.com, post a request with the above figures and vehicle information and he will layout the calculations. Good Luck! |

Is that the only inventory left? Or are there cars with the old premium package or sports package with leather and so on? On Carsdirect, they're only displaying the SE. Edmunds is displaying all the old configurations as well as the SE. Do you option an SE with the PSE package or is that already included? |

Have my eye on 98 A4 1.8T Quatro with 76 K. Car has the Sports package and an aftermarket 10 CD changer, 5 spd auto/tip. Some body moldings need replacing plus a chip in windshield. Small rust spot on hood will require total hood repaint. Has not had the timing belt done yet. Drivers sideview is discolored and need replacing. Is this car worth $7700?

It's black/tan leather and the exterior/interior are is excellent condition. If I sold mine privately I would ask 10k. So I guess 7700 for the 1.8T is a little high, but not too out of line. The reconditioning is going to cost you 1000-1500 though, making the deal only 800-1300 better than mine. Plus I have the v6 and its a year newer. I don't know if that helps much, but I thought I'd share. mabubba |

Replying to: expertbi (Feb 27, 2005 8:00 am) The new 2005.5 ride quality is better but the car is definitely less sporty. I prefer the 2004 and the 2005 versions over the 2005.5 version. The 2005.5 looks great and the ride quality is excellant. It just feels more like a cadillac than a traditional Audi. I also prefer the 1.8CVT over the 3.0CVT. As far as quattro is concerned the new 2.0 is better because of the additional power over the 1.8.

Replying to: audifan2 (Mar 23, 2005 4:17 pm) As far as power (HP) the 1.8T actually is rated between 150hp-225hp depending on what model it is in, Audi/VW. I've heard of many Audi/VW owners who want more HP simple chip their engines. Again it's not something I've personally looked into. Although I believe it changes some of the programming including gear ratios, etc. (hmmmm.....waiting for Mark to jump in here). If I were considering doing this. I would go through the dealership and have them perform any mods for warranty purposes.

Replying to: mvs1 (Mar 24, 2005 8:58 am) As for chiping an 1.8t engine, what I know is certain chips such as Nuespeed will not automatically void the warranty but if a turbo blows and they find a chip VW Audi will not cover repairs. Now APR makes a chip that passes through the Audi/VW diagnostic machine and is built more for safety then for power and performance and has and awesome warranty. What I recommend, is unless this car is being purchased as a race vehicle, something that is going to make you money, leave it alone until the warranty expires. Also chips automatically void emissions warranty. To get a little more horsepower and better fuel economy, K&N airfilters (properly installed and fitted) are inexpensive........ |
