We also got stuck with a higher-than-promotion interest rate at 4.9% but that was one of the concessions we made to get exactly the car we want at exactly the time we needed it. Besides, we will probably just pay the car off immediately after the two free payments. The money isn't doing us much good in the stock market.

As I repeatedly told my wife, getting the right car was more important than getting a huge discount. We keep our cars for 10-15 years, so saving a few thousand bucks isn't the most important part of the deal. We are ecstatic over our (her) new A4 Quattro. Made us wish the 8 hour drive to the wine country took even longer, and the dogs had tons of room in back with the rear seats folded down.

(Funny, but little things, like a huge rear seat pass-through make a more significant difference in our lives than do more obvious things like two-zone climate control or a back-up camera.) Anyway, I'm glad we spent a long time looking for the car that she is going to love for years and years. She has already said that she'd be ready to give her car to me if we had bought the Acura TL or the Lexis i300. It might be a while before she offers this car to me.)

I was loving the transmission on the way here. On the highway, it shifts smoothly with no attention needed. On the mountain roads, the Tiptronic makes it as fun to drive as a sports car.

The only problem is the smoothness/180mph-speedometer combination. A couple of times I thought that all surrounding traffic was going slow only to look down and realize that we were going 90. I'm going to have to do some research on speeding tickets and see when it's worthwhile to risk it.

I think you got a great deal. I got my Prestige for 38.5 K w/o navigation.

Congratulations to you and your wife. The reason I mentioned the interest rate is because that is what the dealer tries to do ie get you to sign the loan at a higher interest rate. I was ready to walk out though if I didn't get what I wanted.

Have fun with your new car!

I had the same issue with dealer financing. They casually tried to slip in the "we had you down for 2.9%" just before signing. They backed down quickly when I said no, but there were a number of instances of them trying to sweeten the deal at the end. Ended up with a prem plus w/wood trim for 34.4. I think I did ok, but I'm sure there was some room in that price. Probably could have taken another good chunk if I was willing to play the game a little more.

Hi Anitha,

Thank you. I thought you got the sports package with it too? I have been reading so many posts , so I am not sure. Mine's the 2.0T engine too, not sure if you got that one.

I did the same thing and said no. They didn't do anything else in the end. The finance guy just wanted to move on and finish the deal. They had a line of customers after me who were buying that day (last day of the month). But I did take a break in between and said that I wanted time off before I finally sign off on the deal. That gave me a chance to look at all the documentation and numbers.

When we picked up our car, I relied heavily on Edmund's TMV and that other site that shows actual purchase prices (sorry I forget the name). According to both of those sites, we got a pretty good deal before the Summer incentives were added on.

As I said before, it's nice to get a good deal, but the Audi has unexpectedly paid off in compliments from friends. I can't count the number of people we know who have come up to us and said, cars are my life and this is a -really- nice car.

So, more power to you if you can save another $500, but more important to do what you want before you get hit by a bus.

Anyway, this whole experience left me wondering. If Edmund's TMV Pricing isn't the final word, what's the best strategy for buyers? Does it all boil down to endlessly shopping the deal? I'm due for a new car myself and if I can't figure out the "best" way to buy, I'll just never pull the trigger.

I think there's no fixed limit on how low you can get the price. It depends a lot on the incentives that the dealer is getting from Audi and how quick they want to sell the car (influenced by how long its been on the lot, when the new models will be coming in etc etc). So keep trying until you are satisfied. I think I made up a number which I thought would be a good price for me (trying to be real in terms of what the dealer can afford to go down to).

My advice is shop around at several dealers and also look online. That would give you a number . Good luck to all.

My dealership and service dept. experience by lagirl2

I just got my car about a month and a half ago- an Audi A4 2009. I looked at all the prices that Edmunds listed (TMV vs. Inventory, etc...) I went to Rusnak dealership in Pasadena, CA and was able to get below Inventory price plus fees on a premium plus package with navigation, the ipod connector and a color upgrade to the paint. I paid cash so I have no idea about financing.

As far as service, unfortunately I know how this is already. I had a problem already. They have fixed my car and had it back to me in a matter of days each time it was in the shop. They paid for my rental car (a Mercedes or better each time) and have detailed my car for free. They were not as accomodating until I had to lay into them for various reasons- 1) some punk working there nearly ran me over in my car, 2) they just cleared the fault and did no work 2 times ago which required me to come back this last time. I'm hoping that the problem is fixed now, though, and I don't have to keep running in there every couple of weeks.
