A little disappointed by bast2

I've had a few problems with my new '01.5 A4T with only 5k on the car (see problems/solutions for details). Service manager was excellent, but I felt the mechanical "service" was a little shotty.

Took it in for a rear end "squeek" and a transmission "clunk", for lack of better way of explaining it. Told the Serv. Man. about both problems. Dropped off in a.m., they drove me to work 30 miles away. Called 3 hrs later to say the feel they know what was causing problems. They pick me up in early afternoon and take me back to dealership. I pick up car and didn't even drive out of the lot and could hear the clunk was gone but the "squeek" was still loud and apparent. I turned around and parked in front of the service dept. The serv. man was at my door before I could even get out of the car, asking if there was still a problem (most serv. man. would hide behind the counter if they saw you come back!). He proceeded to drive the car himself, pick up the mechanic that had been working on it and they both drove the car. Both concluded a rear rocker problem; needs to get replaced.

It was obvious they NEVER drove the car to test that the problem was COMPLETELY solved. I now have to waste another day dealing with it. I appreciate them being forthright, but the job should have been done right the first time. No loaner was given, either. Here I sit, two weeks later, still waiting for my parts.....and wondering whether I made the right "car' choice.

Leasing an A4 2,8 Avant by tiger182

I am looking to lease an A4 Avant. I was originally looking for a 1.8, but Audi finance is pushing the 2.8 with a 1.67% implied interest rate. The car I saw is $36,885 MSRP with pearl paint, leather, cold weather, celebration, automatic. Capitalized cost is $34,100 which dealer says is $1,000 over invoice. 48 month lease is $398/month; 39 month lease is $430/month with 10K/year, and taxes upfront, bank fee and 1st month.

Any thoughts?

I've found the best experience at Fred Baker Audi. Extremely friendly and helpful sales staff. What really won me over was their service area. It's one of the largest service areas I've seen, but also one of the cleanest. I've seen the service area in action when I took my boss's A6 in for routine maintenance. There is a lot of care taken in the vehicles and the equipment used on the vehicles.

They were able to offer me a good deal on a 2002 A4 3.0 Quattro - around $1700 over invoice. Can't wait to pick it up tomorrow!

I've spent time looking at a couple of other dealers in the area, and none of them compare to Fred Baker. They've also won numerous awards for sales and service.

1700 over invoice? that's quite impressive considering the car. i live in san francisco, and most of the high end dealerships here stick pretty close to the MSRP. do you think location makes a difference in the way dealers negotiate their prices? i thought i got a good offer when i was quoted 1,000 bucks below edmund's true market value. i ordered the 3.0 quattro (manual) anyway. it should be fun when it arrives.

The pricing that is offered by the dealers is based upon several factors, some of which include the demand of the vehicle in that area, how many the dealer will receive to sell, how the dealer wants to do business (either wants to help everyone get a new car or feels that if you have to ask, then you're not "worthy" of their cars), and what profit margin the dealer wants to make in order to run a successful business. I feel that I was able to get a good deal. I feel that you were able to do the same.

I've heard of some people lucky enough to get $500 over invoice while others could only get $500 under MSRP. In the end, we're all ending up with a really great car

Regardless of how others around the world fare in their transactions, if you feel that you've done the best you can in getting a price that is fair to you and fair with the dealer, then you have achieved your goad and should be happy with it.

I shopped for a '02 A4 at the Detroit Metro dealers - Bill Cook and Fred Lavery.

The salesperson at Bill Cook was courteous, patient and appeared genuinely interested in making the sale. The moment I walked into Fred Lavery, I got the feeling that I was not welcome. Eventually I bought my car from Bill Cook, and he gave me a great deal as well. No service need so far, but I am totally satisfied with my purchase experience.

Audi in Huntingdon Valley (near NE Philly).
I just got A4 from there, and I was very impressed with my dealer.
I recommend him to everybody. I will know what I'm saying.
