Nitrogen by JBaumgart

Even if it was reasonably priced I don't think I would opt for this. I like to add air, when necessary, in the comfort of my garage and I couldn't do this if I had nitrogen. Do I want to take it all the way to the dealer to add a little more pressure? What if it's Sunday or after hours some night? No thanks!

Well, to be fair, the $250 is what Infiniti quoted me when I bought my 07 G35.

I know my Acura dealer also offers it, but never inquired about it for the MDX.

I completely agree... I top off when necessary with my compressor.
Trips to the dealer for 1 or 2 psi is absolute nonsense.

Bike Mount for 06 MDX (Base Model) by sisu1996

I am thinking of getting some accessories for bikes. For some reasons I will not do the rear hitch. How does the Acura bike mount compare with Yakima/Thule, as far as security, noise, and aethetics are concerned? Do I just need the roof rack plus bike mount, or need the cross bars as well? I don't have a running board and am not tall. Does that pose an extra challenge?

I have heard there are internal "racks" that does the same trick. How does it work in real world? Is it easy to install? Does bikes stored inside the car make the internal messy and dirty?

I don't know much about who makes the Acura bike rack but the Yakima and Thule ones are usually the best (with some exceptions).

If you do a lot of biking, you may want to re-think the hitch rack. Putting bikes on a roof mounted rack on a low car takes quite a bit of effort...putting the bikes on the MDX roof rack (especially without running boards) will certainly take a lot of muscle and effort. In addition, you take the risk of forgetting you have bikes on the roof (out of site, out of mind) and causing considerable damage when entering a low overhead barrier (such as my friend did when re-entering his garage with the bikes on his roof).

You can have an inexpensive hitch mounted to your MDX and get the Thule T2 rack that I bought. It takes about 15 seconds to put the bike on or off this rack (including fastening or unfastening the wheels) and a 10 year old can do it.

Internal racks do work for some people. My bikes get dirty enough (and not to mention the grease on the chains and other parts that love to stain the inside of your vehicle) that I strongly prefer to keep my bikes outside the vehicle.

This is clearly my personal opinion and others may differ. But the hitch rack really works for me.

I also have an 06 MDX... and a couple of mountain bikes.
I have a rack that I made myself, which I used in the back of my Toyota Tacoma and it stood 2 bikes upright in the bed.
This rack works inside the cargo area of the MDX, but you lose the second and third row, and if you're going anywhere with luggage, the bikes aren't coming with you.
Dirt and mud were other concerns.

I bought a Thule rack for the top of the car, and it mounts right onto my existing factory roof rack.
It consists of cross-bars which sit atop of my existing cross-bars, and then the bike holders mount to that.
I was hoping to not need additional cross-bars, but once installed, you don't even know they're there... very low profile.
The bikes are not too difficult to get on top for me, but there's no way in heck the wife is doing it herself.
I open the rear door before putting the bike on so I can step further into the car and it's quite easy for me to just pop them on.

The rack looks awesome, give the MDX a great look, and holds the bikes super tight and secure.
The whole thing was less than $250 (2 bike holders/including locks)& I installed it myself in about a half hour.

Over the years, I have loaded numerous bikes onto the roof of my '01 MDX and even with a step stool any bike over 20lbs can be quite a chore. I recently installed a Class III hitch (took about 20 minutes) and then purchased a Yakima "Hook Up 2". I could kick myself for not going to this system sooner. It is easy to understand and involves little or no lifting. The bikes are more stable and there is much less anxiety about the load on the roof. Plus, it opens the roof up for a cargo box ("Skybox). (And the hatch still opens with the rack in the stowed position)

I have to agree that if you have a hitch, that may be the more convenient way to go.
I didn't have a hitch on our MDX, and certainly wasn't up for having one installed. (no other need for it)

If you're tall enough and have the strength, the bikes are easily mounted on the roof.
I definitely can see where some people would have trouble though.
It's not so much picking the bike up, it's holding it at the bottom edges of the frame and having enough strength in the wrists to hold the bike upright while mounting it.

I do have to constantly remind myself that something is on the roof... no drive-throughs and no garages.

My friend has had, not once...but twice, 2 roofs replaced on a VW Golf for this same reason.

Nose mask installation by sisu1996

I understand nose mask is basically for long distance traveling (to keep off the chips and grits). As such, is it fairly easy to mount and dismount the mask by oneself, withour any help? Any special tool needed?

installing roof rails and cross bars by alexsuv

Is it easy to install roof rails and cross bars on 2008 MDX by myself? Does it require any special tools or skills so that only can (should) be done at the dealership? I found this accessory on the web cheaper than at Acura dealerships, so I was wondering if I could save on buying it elsewhere and also self-installing it. Thanks.

If you're handy with tools, you shouldn't have any problem ~ However, you should first check out the installation instructions here:

Just make sure you measure exactly or you'd be sorry!
