Buy a Kia but stay away from the dealership by wruple
Apr 25, 2006 (11:44 am)
I've had one Kia (marketed by Ford as the Festiva) and now another (marketed by Ford as the Aspire)and have had no problems. The first one, I put over 300,000 miles on before I finally sold it for $500 and a couple of years later I saw someone still driving it. All I ever did was keep the oil changed and replace some break pads and a CV joint. I regret selling it. I also had a fuel pump go out on me. This second vehicle now has 145,000 miles and still no problems but needs a CV joint. I don't think you could get those high miles out of a Ford without some "fix or repair daily" problems. A few years back I bought a new Kia Sephia from a Kia dealer in Birmingham, Alabama. I drove the car for three or four months, bought insurance but kept waiting on them to provide the paper work for a tag and address to send my payments. They kept making excuses and then one day I got a letter saying my credit could not be approved after several months and to please return the car! I later heard similar horror stories concerning their dealerships and wild claims (buy one get one free bs) and their in-house financing. I recommend Kia highly, just get a good used one and stay off their dealership lots and their mountains of bs.

I can't believe they gave you the Sephia by iluvmysephia1

to take and drive and still hadn't approved your financing! That is a messed-up dealer, they don't know what one hand is doing while another is doing something else.

I agree, Kia's are great rigs. The thing is, they're not expensive to buy them new(and you get that great Warranty that way), but if you wait and buy a used one you can really score a bargain. Something to ponder.

When you buy them used the remaining warrenty transfers to the new owner. When I went to the dealer (where I bought my 2002 Cinco...32,000 TROUBLE FREE miles....looking for a 2005 Cinco last August, (they were out of all 2005 Rios and Cincos). But they had a slightly used (1,971 miles) 2004 Cinco. Of course I checked it out of course and it was actual mileage. Saved a bundle and still had a majority of the warrenty.

no, I disagree. I have bought two Kia's. One is a 1999 Kia Sephia sedan and I traded that Kia in on a 2001 Kia Sportage 4x4. Both have been fine vehicles and my Sportage 4x4 now has 111,300 miles on it and it's running like a champ.

Just follow your owner's guide and service schedule carefully. You don't have to get service done by a Kia dealer but you do need to save all of your car's service receipts. Your Kia will be a fine rig.

BTW-I sat in a 2001 Kia Rio Cinco, red to be exact, on the day I bought my Sportage 4x4. I liked it and really like the design of the hatchwagon. Sort of a predecessor to the Rio5. I wanted to test drive the '01 Rio Cinco but my wife wanted the Pepper Red Sportage 4x4 we had already spotted. It was not hard to want the Sportage, too, but I liked that Rio Cinco and, you know, reliability-wise I think it's held up very, very well for people.

You can't beat the Long-Haul Warranty. I also think that Kia has a great body-design team, among the best in the world. Great body designs. Enjoy your Rio Cinco and be proud of it!
