Call Mazda's 800 number with your VIN, they'll look it up for you. I found out that my car has the rear LSD, but no ABS. Subsequently I was able to test the rear axle and indeed found it has the viscous LSD.

I'm not sure about the models offered in '97, since I researched the 90-93 models. Check out Miata.net.

Hi fellow Miata owners. My name is Lee. I'm a retired Mechanic. Back in 1995 my daughter was having trouble with her car payments so I bought the car fron her. It turned out to be my favorite car out of about 60 that I have owned. That includes Datsun 240Z, Mercedes 250SL, Fiat 124 sport and X1/9 and even a Lexus LS400. I bought a new hardtop from the dealer for $2000. Otherwise the car is stock. The black hardtop looks good with the Red body color. We have 2 other cars but when I feel like having some fun we take the Miata.

Hi and welcome. Too bad - it's so reliable you probably can't take advantage of your skills very often.

With the Fiats I had to work on them weekly. The Miata, nothing goes wrong!

Best regards, Lee

Also, I had mentioned about how hard my 97 miata taking small bumps? I took it in to mechanic for new brake pads and he found that the tires were inflated at 37 psi as to 26 psi is being normal. Now I can easily tolerate the ride and am enjoying even more with the driver side window down and passenger side window up. Thanks for the tip.

Yep, 26-28 psi is all you want for the road. More is OK for the track, but my CD skips a lot at 30psi or higher.

I've been shopping for a '99 Miata for a couple of months now. I found an almost perfect specimen... red/tan... Leather package... 19,000 miles. The problem is: it's automatic!!! I had my heart set on a 5-speed. It seemed to me that the automatic did not have the power of a 5-speed. Has anyone compared the two?

IMO, 50% of the reason to buy a Miata is the magic of the shifter. An automatic Miata is an abomination (no offense anyone).

I would hold out for a manual as tempting as here and now is.

Someone was almost "giving" one away in Boston, same year, same tranny. Had it been a 5 speed, I would have been willing to fly up.
