Had the same problem in my 2003 Aztec. Turned out there was an issue with a cable in the dash--subject of a GM maintenance bulletin. The cable had to be replaced -- very expensive given the shop had to open up the dash board to access it. The ticket says replace TP Sensor and Wiring Harness. Perhaps you can use that when you speak to a dealer or shop.

I recived my aztec as a graduation gift last april and recently started having problems with it. The antifreeze is leaking and there is water in my oil. My dad told me that i may have blown my head gasket and my friends say it would be less trouble and less money to just sell it rather than keep it and fix it, this is the last thig i would want to do. It was a good car when i first got it and it made it home and to school repeatedly. So i was wondering would it be in my best interest to sell it or keep it?

The most common problem with the anti-freeze leak is the intake gaskets. If left un-corrected for a long time it can leak into oil and possibly create real big problem with engine. Also if the coolant gets low enough (due to leak) engine can overheat and cause head gasket failure.

Yes i have had transmission problems with my 2001 Aztec mine wouldn't shift into fourth gear it would get close then jump down to third and shifting was hard and jerky i took it to a transmission shop and they said that the computer was working and telling my transmission to shift into fourth but the transmission itself wasn't doing it. And now months later my problems just keep getting worse i dont know if they all stemmed from the transmission problem or what i just know i love the car but if it cost more than what i paid for it to be fixed im selling it.

Lower intake manifold gasket class action???? I've been waiting for a recall but -
I'm supposed to take my car in TOMORROW to get the gasket replaced. My understanding is that I have to pay for it myself... not cheap! Please tell me more!

It looks as if being unable to afford fixing the cracking gasket means that they will only reimburse me $100 (maybe) to my $750-1000 repair bill!

Does anyone know any other options for getting this fixed inexpensively or getting reimbursed more? Repairs need to be done prior to May 30, 2008 to be a part of this class action. I'd like to opt out if there's a better option. (White Pontiac Aztek 2002 FWD)

I've got my car in the shop today with two things needing to be fixed - the lower intake manifold gasket ($750) and the right wheel bearing ($381). I'm appalled that I am expected to pay these when they appear to be defects in Azteks in general. Do you have any idea how I can negotiate or get this done for less? I live in Jacksonville, FL.
