This a question for those of you who have had your Aztecs for a while. Do you use anything special on the black body moldings, or do you find they stay new looking on their own? I'm a bit worried about them starting to fade and get dull. Any suggestions from your experiences?

After waxing mine I found that the plastic and the wax didn't mix. Had white stuff all over it. Found a fingernail brush at Wal-Mart that along with regular old car wash soap, did a great job removing the wax. Got to believe that using one of the trick liquid waxs would work better than the paste I tried.

Greetings, We purchased an Aztek in January. After less than two weeks it was in the shop with a blown heater motor. Less than two weeks following its replacement, it was back in again with another blown heater motor (brown smoke came out of the front window defroster). It was back in the shop after Easter because water was dripping out from under the dashboard on the passenger side. The dealer said that a seam somewhere hadn't been properly sealed. We got the car back on a Tuesday, on Friday water started leaking out again. They have now had our car over a week and say that there is a drain in the air conditioner evaporator that is not draining which fills up one of the heater/AC ducts until it overflows into the passenger side floor duct. Has anyone else had these kinds of problems, or are we just "lucky"? The dealer has picked up the car at our house, left us a car to drive, and brought the car back to us each time after the work was done, so I can't complain about that. However, this is the first new car we've bought in 10 years and the first new American-made car in 15 years and the "excitement" of having a new car vanished with the second trip back to the dealer. Even with all the problems, we still like the car. We're just uneasy now about its reliability.

We have had out 'Tek for a whole 10 days...but we have not had any problems. Is their a "Lemon-law" in your state? Good luck! |

Please forgive me - I just gotta vent. Got our Aztek back from the dealer yesterday - 13 days after we took it in. Apparently the problem was with the housing for the evaporator coil. There is a drain hole in this plastic housing that did not get punched out in the factory. Water built up in the housing, overflowed into the heater duct and spilled over into the floor duct on the passenger side. I don't know about you, but it seems like it shouldn't have taken 13 days to figure this out and fix it - especially since the time before when I took the car in I asked if water could somehow be getting trapped around the AC coil. My wife picked up the car at the dealer. According to her, the Maintenance Manager basically told her we should have expected problems with the car since it's the first year of a new model. I wonder what's Pontiac's offical stance on that comment (any corporate-types monitoring this site?). Also, we were loaned a Pontiac Gran Prix to drive while the Aztek was getting fixed. When my wife started it up, a yellow light on the tachometer started flashing as did the lights on the bottom of the doors. This apparently happens when you exceed the yellow line on the tach. Problem was, the car was at a slow idle in park in our driveway! More Pontiac excitement! We'll be taking our car to another dealer if we have any more problems. So much for American cars - NEXT TIME I'M BUYING A HONDA! Again, thanks for letting me vent. |

I'd be pissed too. I hope you got some other nearby service departments you can take it too. A good MM would have made sure you were satisfied and most certainly would have made sure the loaner car did not have problems. I hope you have better luck with you Aztek in the future. You looked into lemon laws in your state? |
|
| Illinois has a lemon law, but the way I read it, it would be a big hassle to implement and we would probably still be out money. We've talked with a lawyer friend of ours and he's going to look it over. I sincerely hope they've fixed the problem - I would really like to love this car, but we're keeping our options open. | |

I'll tell you ....... from my vantage point the AZTEK has been AWESOME. I have about 12,000 miles and it has been fantastic. Toyota like fit and finish. I'm real sorry to hear about your problems.........I've talked to at least 100 owners (Net, In person)......... You are the 1st person with these type of issues. One other had paint issues. No recalls....... Please keep us up to date ......if this is an isolated incident!! ; )......... wearing the AZTEK smile |

According to my service manager at the dealer, they made a 'rolling production change' at vehicle 525890 on the 2001 Aztek production line. If you have a production number greater than this, you have the newer updates and CAN get personal calling. Vehicles below this date (2001 production), about 350 or so, have an older version of the Onstar box and software. They do not implement the Voice Response features of Onstar. Some early-production 2001 Cadillacs have a similar issue. No word on any possible retro-fit kit, but he'll keep me updated. Robyn SE Michigan Aztek GT
