Anybody put one on yet and which brand did you get? Seen listings for Drawtite, Reese and Putnam (?). I want one that I won't bag my shin on and can be used as a bike rack at some time or another. Any answers?

Anybody used it yet? Looks like since the side runners are flush with the roof, you might need some kind of a special setup ($$). We think a water-proof plastic/canvas type carrier would be nice. We will start shopping for a carrier over the next few weeks. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

lbthedog, I have no answers for you. We will also be shopping for a trailer hitch (in the GR area). Will let you know what we find, please do the same.

Canoe? by goldncanoe

Has anyone had experience carrying a canoe on top of their Aztek? We have a 17', 70 lb. canoe and are considering buying an Aztek if it is up to the job. We like to take our canoe to lakes that are several hundred miles from home and need to be able to do it safely with a reliable vehicle. The owner's manual warned against carrying loads that extended beyond the windshield. We asked our salesman and he said all cars have that warning but our current vehicle ('96 dodge Grand Caravan) only says that loads extending over the windshield must be secured to the front and rear bumpers.

I am thinking of installing a TV DVD/VCR for the rear passengers. Any suggestions as to the best fitting possible.

Goldncanoe,
What you posted sounded strange until I saw my daughter's swin teacher's Aztek manual on Sunday. The "Caution" really says nothing longer or wider then the carrier. The "Body" of the instructions say that you use the eight tie-down loops inside the cross rails to secure cargo as long as they are not wider then the carrier. GM offers ski/kayak/canoe carriers for the Aztek, so they must work somehow. A possible interpretation would be that what ever is carried must be secured within the dimensions of the carrier. I think there is an ask a question section on the Pontiac web site, maybe they could provide a definative answer.

If your Aztec is an AWD can you find a trailer hitch? The pontiac dealership that I used cannot find one nor can General Motors as far as they have told me. Has anyone gotten the trailer package on an AWD? please advise...

some roads that i travel check to make sure that you are carrying cables/chains, and others have police that make you put them on.

P235-60-R17 Goodyear Eagle Ls on ASA JS1 17x17 inch wheels for the GT AWD Aztek. by exzur

After 6,500 miles, instead of rotating the tires, I decided to replace the P215-70-R16 Uniroyal Tiger Paw on the oem wheels with a new set of P235-60-R17 Goodyear Eagle Ls on the ASA JS1 17X7 inch alloy wheels. In my computation, the original wheel has 27.85 inches in diameter and 215 millimeters tire width. The diameter of the new wheel is 28.1 inches and the tire width is 235 millimeters. What concern me is when the front wheels are turned farthest to the left or right, is the less than inch clearance between the tires and the wheel wells. I have logged almost a thousand miles with the wheel tire combo and no problem so far.

My feeling is the car height increased by at least two inches, far from the .25 inch increase my computation indicates. Too bad I did not measure when the car has the original wheel tire combo.
