Document Fees by bulldogat

I recently purchased a 2004 Sequoia SR5 from Wilmington Toyota in Wilmington, N. C. The verbal deal was $34,000 plus tax and tags. When the papers were completed they added $249.00 for ducument fees. I didn't notice they had added this charge until I got home and carefully read the agreement. I went back and talked to the people at the dealership. They refused to refund the $249.00. This appears to me to the underhanded and deceitful.

I paid $45 for document fees on my 2004 SR5 last week in CA. It was also $45 for my 2000 Camry. Ask them why it is $200 more where you live.

Each state sets their own doc fees. Some have them, others don't. There is a limit and most car dealers will attempt to get max limit.

Manufactuer Buyback (Lemon) by toad53

I have decided to buy a new Sequoia 4x4 Ltd, but an interesting problem presented itself. I could buy a 4x2 2002 LTD with only 16,000 miles for $29,000. It is in immaculate condition----but is a manufactuer buy back. I researched the reason, and it was for four trips to the service dept. for a faulty AC unit. No other history is reported on a carfax search, and I spoke with the service dept that handled the problem with the original owner. The AC was fixed, but Toyota took the car back and sold it in an auction to the guy who has it now. My first instict was to run away fast, but the more I think about it, the idea starts to appear attractive. The orig warranty is still good and transfereable, and I can still purchase an extended warranty. Obviously it would be a resale problem down the line, but I am having a hard time finding a huge risk in this deal. Any thoughts out there?

You just paid $249 to learn a lesson - READ THE CONTRACT BEFORE YOU SIGN IT.

But don't feel too bad - I have read stories where people have made 60 payments on a car "loan" only to find out that 5 years ago they really signed a lease agreement and that if they want to buy the car they need to pay thousands of dollars more. The dealership uses a contract that they wrote - who do you think it is going to protect?

I always ask if I can have some time alone to read over the paperwork - I also bring a calculator and run the numbers myself. One time I added up the numbers and it was $50 off. I pointed this out - but on the pre-printed contract - in print so small I did not even notice it - document fee $50.

SR5 vs. Limited by tmcrose

We are going to but a Sequoia, but in the search for a new car, we came across a used red "01 SR5 that was loaded with just about everything. Unfortunately the paint was in pretty bad shape, so we just decided to buy new. The problem is that we still love the red, but want all of the extras on the Limited. We can live without heated seats and a moonroof, but is it possible to get everything else, or should we just settle for another color? My husband likes the gray and I lean toward the green if we do get a Limited.

We could sure use some advice, our lease is up on our Expedition in 2 weeks! Thanks!

I purchased last July and was also undecided in our search between a red SR5, gold SR5, and a green Limited. I opted for a fully loaded green limited, the oak interior, with every option but the air suspension. (including the DVD) Sticker was over 49,200 and got it for 43000 flat + tax and tags. My deciding factor was how great the green limited looked with the "gold package" and gold pinstriping. It really brought out and brightened the green. Everywhere I go I get complimented on how good it looks.

Depending on which region of the country you live, dealers are sent specific option packages, unless you have them change an order they have on the books. In that case, it can take 3-4 months to get. Depending on the options you want, you may or may not be able to get them. Certain options are only available unless you commit to other options. i.e. you cannot get the sunroof unless you order the wheel package. Read the brochure carefully. It tells you what you can and cannot get. More importantly, if you need one soon, contact a dealer asap to have them see it one exists in your region which has the options you want. Otherwise it may take forever.

Why not just e-mail what you want to dealers outside you region? You could save a few thousand and either pick it up or have it delivered to you.
