Got a new? one by jyarnold

I picked up an SR5 loaded last week and really enjoyed taking it up to the mountains for a ski trip this new years. It eats snow and is, bar none, the safest vehicle I have yet to enjoy in adverse driving conditions. I’ve had a Tundra for 2 years and decided to keep it and, instead, trade in my wife’s Xterra which we were both very unhappy with.

Anyway, when we finally went to look at this car after haggling with dealer we noted that it had 1400 miles on it. Haggled some more but got home and found a tow receipt in manual for it implying it had been off road and ditched. Went next day to dealer and they stated it was towed to save mileage despite my observation that the skid plate was scored. Then, as if placed by original owner, we found a post-it note under seat with claim number written. Called the insurance company to get details, they would not provide but admitted this brand new $42K had been in an accident! Supposedly in CO you can sell a vehicle with 2k miles as new. We have asked the dealer for a new replacement and we’re getting song and dance about availability. Can anyone shed some light on just how legal it is for a dealer to sell a vehicle as new despite it having been owned and been to the body shop? Seems shady to me!

Any recommendations for a Phoenix area dealer would be greatly appreciated. I'm thinking of getting the PM package for an SR5, too. Heard some not too pleasing stories about aftermarket leather, ie. quality, workmanship etc. but you may have found a diamond in the rough....do tell!!

Will pick my SR5, 4X4 up next week by rogerl2

I bought a silver SR5, 4x4, 2001, with 42,000 miles on it. I couldn't afford to buy a new one. I will pick it up next week after a moonroof is put in. I am having the dealer Toyota certify this which will cost about $700. It still will have the drive warranty through 60,000. After reading about some brake problems and other problems on the Sequoia, should I try to buy an extended warranty on top of the Toyota certification? It will be another $1,100. Thanks for the help.

I owned a Toyota Camry for 6 years. I loved that car. But I reallyyyy need a bigger car. My husband and I have 3 kids; one 14 year old coming in 5'9 1/2", one 8 yaer old and one in a car seat. We need room. Loved that Camry, but knew how a sardine felt.

My Carmy was totaled on February 4, 2002. Know I have to get a new car. Toyota's have sold me on their reliability. Just wanted some input from Sequoia owners (before I purchasedone) on the good, bad and the ugly. I also wanted to know, how do you get 500 over invoice as I read in some of the posted emails. Any takers......

We've had our Sequoia for almost a year, 26,000 miles. It's been fantastic. My wife drives for her sales job, and feels comfortable with the size of the vehicle. We drove from Indianapolis to Orlando with two children under the age of five, and were able to have room to wiggle around when we needed to.

Write a review! by KarenS HOST

Last week, Edmunds rolled out new pricing pages. Along with this is a new "consumer ratings & reviews". This functionality lives in the "consumer opinions" area of the new vehicle detail page, and allows users to rate a vehicle on a number of different criteria (1 to 10 scale), as well as add his/her own free-form comments.

If you have some time, we would really appreciate Town Hall members writing a review of their current auto, or a favorite make/model. It takes approximately a week for your review to appear on that make/model.

If you have any questions, please let me know!

Thanks!

OUR SEVENTH TOYOTA by trdsctwo

Just picked up our Jade Green Ltd 4x4 a couple of weeks ago and have put about 500km on the
odometer (yes I am Canadian, Aye!). Two days after I brought it home, it wouldn't start so I
phoned the dealer and told him that "there is a dead tree sitting in my driveway". It turns out
that the security system wasn't reading my key code properly and it was remedied when I phoned a friend (the service manager from the local MB dealership) and he suggested that instead of using the keyless entry system, I open the door using the actual key. What do you know? it worked! It must have re-coded the keys. Anyway....As I indicated in the title, this is our 7th Toyota. We started out with a 1985 Celica, went from it to a 1987 Camry, added a 1986 4-Runner, traded that in for a 1995 4-Runner which we then traded in for a 1996 4-Runner after only 5 months (we still own it). We bought a 1997 Avalon which we recently traded in for the 2002 Sequoia. This was made necessary by the fact that we have 4 boys (ages 8 months to 15 years) and it was either a larger SUV or a van. My first impressions of the Sequoia are
mainly positive; large, stable, quiet, and comfortable. It could use a little more horsepower
(our 1996 4-Runner is supercharged), and the quality of the interior materials are less than
what I've come to expect from Toyota. The plastics are harder and a little more "plasticy",
and the quality of the leather and carpeting is a little more "industrial". I base my comparison
on the previous "top of the line" versions of Toyota products that I have owned. I do not know if this is because the vehicle was made in North America instead of Japan (the Avalon was also made in NA), or just that Toyota is cutting back on quality. I must also say that I am somewhat of a perfectionist and pay close attention to detail. That is my two cents worth!!!!
