Have you checked your battery and connections? The JGC needs mega power even while you are driving. I had a simular situation, got a new battery and still had problems paid mechanics 3 times to fix problem and finally did it myself.
One of the terminal connectors on mine is collapsing because someone tightened it so much it barely gets a good connection, but to get a new connector they said $600 or so. Now I just periodically (3-4 months) remove both connectors, clean the terminals, clean inside the connectors and put them back on, tighten as best I can.

Intermittantly my car still dies while idling or stopped once a month or so but never while driving. I'm thinking it might be combo battery connection and/or PCM??

you would think out of all these people myself included that the jeep company would know about this site and ask us if there is anything they can do....i love my jeep but there seems to be alot of people that have problems with stalling out and acting the fool with them.......would they(the jeep company) not be concerned about it?? seems to be an ongoin problem with most of the jeeps......i do believe my problem is where i get gas at i can get it at a enmark or a shell station it dont act up but let me get it at a cheaper place because god knows gas is so high it acts the fool,my brother was ridin with me after i picked it up from the shop and it died while we were goin down the road,he said "its doin the same thing my truck does with cheap gas" so now i guess i will have to pay extra for better gas to keep it from acting up.....but then i guess the oil mongers will get my money whether i like it or not..... i even tried the seafoam from the parts place to put in my tank it worked for a little while.i hope everyone has a nice day and hope they get their jeeps fixed.....thanks for reading and sorry for whining.......

#3750 of 5136 Considering the purchase of '00 JGCL by southsidekc

I'm looking into a 2000 JGCL with 120K on it with the I6. Ive driven it and do not notice any whining from the transfer case and it seems to have no problems with window motor failure I've heard about. The brakes have some pulsations but I plan to put slotted and drilled rotors on to (hopefully) fix it. I'm curious if you guys know something else to look for. Otherwise this car seems to have not had any major problems. The cruise doesn't work but I bet thats a vacuum line thing. Thanks in advance.

There are always something with any car...part of owning a mechanical beast. Word of caution on the rotors....only get the slotted since the rotors are floating they won't even sell slotted AND drilled rotors for my 93. I have slotted with ceramic pads and it works great. Maybe different with a 2000 since I only have disk in front. If you have disks on all four they maybe different.

#3752 of 5136 Transmission won't shift by snark1

Sep 16, 2007 (2:07 pm)

Hi, I've got a 03 Grand Cherokee with automatic trans. The transmission will not shift out of 1st or 2nd. If I really rev it, it will go to a higher gear but it's not working right. Must be some controller which talks between engine and tranny to tell it when to shift. Any ideas on analysis?

You hit it pretty well. I have a 2000 JGCL V8 purchased brand new - so no blaming previous owners. I have replaced the rotors, window motors (regulators too), oil pump and oil pressure sensor ($18K!). My latest amazement was the break lights. I had to replace the entire assembly because of a board. I go through a battery a year but I have only bought one with an 18 month warranty. The interior isn't hanging together very well especally the center console. I am very picky on maintance and have a hard time with the Jeep because my other car is a '96 Honda Accord. Yes, I am the only owner on that one too and not a thing has broken ever. There will be no other Jeeps (or Chrysler) in my garage after this one is gone!
Oh, make sure the radiator fan recall has been done. I had a ton of fun getting that one done.

oh, I forgot the window motor. There is no warning. With the first one, we came out of the Georgia Aquarium and as soon as the passenger door was closed the glass dropped half way. The driver's side was suddenly at a fast food drive thru. The motor, cable, and radiator are welded together so no matter what breaks - you're buying all three.

Yeah... I feel your pain. I had an '02 V8 HO that I traded in a week and a half ago. I didn't want to start pouring money into it. Too many problems and too much of a pain. Unexcusable for a 5 year old car.
