#3156 of 5143 just got a JCL need help...
Jul 26, 2006 (6:19 am)
We just got a Jeep Cherokee Lerdo 1990 from my sister in San Diego, The problem we are having though and cannot figure out is , that is isnt shifting correctly, We have been told it is the Throttle postioning sensor, it doesnt want to shift right first of all and second it revs up and down when your driving it, after you get to about 60-70 miles per hour, it stops...any help of clues would be great, i am a newby at this Jeep thing....all i have to say i think they are pieces of *#* . I would very much like to figure out the problem, We have a strait 6 in it, and just replaceed the shifting cable, yesterday, ">
#3157 of 5143 Re: Jeep Grand Cherokee Brake Rotor Problems [mandymusika]
Jul 26, 2006 (6:27 am)
All you have to do is replace with aftermarket rotors...not real expensive ones either...just as long as they are not the D/C rotors. I spent less than $100 and fixed my problem for over 50,000 miles. Part of the problem can be the calipers....original calipers tended to stick on the slide pins.. I had one stick after putting on the aftermarket rotors...got hot enough to warp. Once they cooled down the warp left. Greased the slide pins and cured that problem. So, the $100 rotors would take a real heating up and revert to straight again... D/C factory rotors warp with only a little heat... Total Crap. Best thing is to avoid D/C vehilces... Even GMs are much better at least that is my opinion.
#3158 of 5143 2005 JGC stalling
Jul 26, 2006 (6:28 am)
Has anyone come across a solution for stalling. My JGC stalls fairly often, when I back out of my driveway and put the car into drive- the engine cuts off. Naturally the dealer is "unable to duplicate my problem" and say that there are no other reports of such an issue. Perhaps I should refer them to this forum so they can read for themselves all the stalling complaints... Thank goodness it is a lease- As soon as I turn the jeep in, I am headed straight for the Nissan dealership!
Any insight would be helpful! Thanks.

I got that same letter. I am not a fan of CA lawsuits either, but for the money I have put into mine having my rotors replaced 3 TIMES in the past 4 YEARS, it is a little different story. I have also just got done putting in over $3000.00 to replace both front and rear differentials and replace all twelve lifters in the engine. (3 lifters just broke one day...go figure)...I have stopped going to the Jeep dealers because of some of the BS that they had told me regarding the brakes years ago. I have a 99 JGCL with 107000 miles on it. I bought it 5 years ago with 63000 miles on it.
#3160 of 5143 Code P0702 Speed Sensor Malfuntion
Jul 26, 2006 (7:32 pm)
I have a 98 JGC and the check engine light came on. I took it to Autozone and the computer gave the code P0702 Speed Sensor Malfunction. I bought the sensor and changed it my self, restarted de PCM system (unhooked the battery for 15 min.) the engine light came off, but when I drove it and right after the first gear came in the engine light came on again. Took it again to Autozone and still same code. I changed the speed sensor again, thinking that I had a new bad one, and still it did the same thing, I even changed the harness that hooks up to the sensor. I took it again to autozone and it reads the same code. This is what the troubleshoot reads exactly:
The PCM has determined that a malfunction exists in the electrical circuit for the transmission control system.
I would appreciate any suggestions you might have.

Jul 28, 2006 (4:31 am)
So I drained the diff and cleaned it out real good, filled back up with new gear oil and still getting the same sound. No idea what's causing this and I live in Italy so there's not an abundance of dealers or mechanics that are familiar with Jeep...not to mention the language barrier. I've included a quote from my first post explaining the problem. Any help??
"I have a pretty pronounced whirring/whining sound that seems to be coming from the front differential. This occurs anytime the wheels are in motion. The sound is pretty loud, and a dealership mechanic told me (over the phone) my front end is probably going out."
#3162 of 5143 Shifting problems
Jul 28, 2006 (5:59 am)
I put up a post on here, i need some help or opinions, I have a 1990 Jeep Cherokee Laredo, Has a strong motor, and many new parts, the problem is when you get in it to drive somewhere it doesn't want to shift, it feels like it is getting stuck once you do get it it to shift it is ok other than it surges, while driving on the freeway, the RPMS go up and down erratically, could just be sensor, I am not sure i am unfamiliar with Jeeps, So any advice would be very very appreciated....

Got a similar noise on my '98GCLtd, especially on the over-run. Had it when I bought it, still the same now after oil change and several thousand kms. I just turn the radio up. If it falls apart I'll know what the problem is.

My problem is fixed!!! We had to replace both speed sensors the output and input, both located just inches away and very easy to replace. Hope this info helps someone.

Is the check engine light on? I had a problem with the speed sensors on mine and they were causing for the transmission to shift roughly.
