#518 of 527 Sportcross tires by whakim

Nov 13, 2005 (12:01 am)

I want to get away from the staggered tire/wheel setup on my otherwise stock 2002 sportcross, and run the same size 225/45-17 tires on all 4 corners.
Can I pick up a pair of the stock 17x7.5 rear wheels and 225/45-17 tires and use them on the front without offset or rubbing problems?
Will I have to use front wheels with a 50 offset and rear wheels with a 55 offset?
Can anyone suggest a non-directional 225/45-17 tire so that I can rotate the tires in a conventional manner?
After three years, I have gotten really frustrated with the uneven wear and replacement issues, and a flat left front tire this weekend has pushed me over the edge (the directional spare works on the right side only).

I think is was reported that the stock sportx 17x7.5 55mm offset rear wheel and a 225 tire will rub a bit at full steering lock on the front; you might want to confirm this on one of the is300 boards.

I had four 50mm offset 17x8 Volks on my car with 225 GoodYear GSD3s (directional). I really liked the way the car turned in; it dialed out some of the understeer which was further reduced with a set of aftermarket swaybars. So I know for sure the 50mm offset and 225s won't rub.

The is no reason why you can't use the directional spare any time you need it. It is a spare and nothing bad will happen to the tire. The tire just works better when rolling in the prescribed direction.

You would have to check some of the tire stores for non-directional tires.

I found that tire wear was diminished with wider wheels and tires along with a proper alignment. The inside edge will still wear faster than the outside though.

#520 of 527 2003 IS300 Sportcross engine failure by ccchecking

The engine on my Sportcross quit without warning while I was driving on the freeway this week. The car is still under warranty and has less than 10,000 miles on it.
Lexus has performed all required maintenance per their schedule.
After the car was towed in the Tests showed that 2 pistons were bent requiring the engine to be replaced.
Lexus repair says someone had accelerated the engine in neutral causing the problem.
I certainly did not do this, however I use valet parking frequently - and wonder if that statement about the accelerating in neutral could be correct. Or do I have a lemon.

Well, after many moons of research and speculation, the end of my lease is here. Know what I'm gonna replace the little guy with? Nothing!

I bought it out and kept it. I simply could not find anything I really wanted that bested my wagon.

Lexus really dropped the ball for me by A) changing the whole demeanor of the 2G IS, and B) not offering a wagon.

I could have forgiven turning the IS into a cushy, boring baby GS had they gone ahead and offered a 350 wagon, but a cocoon sedan that just goes fast and stops fast doesn't cut it on the fun factor.

my wife loves her '02 Sportcross so much that I think she'll let me modify it(i.e. spend $$) when she buys another car. Any suggestions on what I can do to make it a sleeper and still be as close to a daily driver as possible? Thinking of installing SC engine or supra turbo engine, so if anyone out there has done this, how extensive would the mod's be?
We have had the car for 3 years and still enjoys this car more than my old '87 Buick Grand National!

#523 of 527 Sportcross Tail Light by jlaszlo

Any suggestions where I can find discount parts for the Sportcross? Specifically, I'm looking for a tail light but the dealer wants too much $$$ and this is a Sportcross specific part.

Try this: SportCross Tailight Assembly

$140. Don't know for sure, but I'd bet that's a fair deal less that a dealer's bin, and certainly sounds resonable to me. Installation is pretty simple.

How do you replace the lower bulb in the front headlight bucket? It is not reachable from the engine compartment or the wheel well. What has to be dismantled and how?

Does anyone know what the best way is to replace the interior dome light nest to the rear view mirror? I dont want to have to take it to the dealership for something so minor.
