What is this discussion about?
Toyota Highlander, SUV

Hi, I'm looking to make my first car purchase without the help of my parents. As an early college graduation gift, I wanted to buy myself a car. I've always loved Highlanders, but am in no position to buy a new one. I just wanted to get some feedback on a potential HH that is for sale at a dealership here in town and see if you guys thought it was a good buy or not?
- Is that too many miles?
- What is the battery life and have any of you experienced problems?
- I appreciate any feedback!!! Thanks again!
They are asking 18,871.

I have located a 08 highlander sport in blizzard white with an MSRP of $35325 and the dealer has given me a price of $28215. How does this price sound to you guys? Options include cold weather package, homelink system, towing package, moonroof, Anti-Theft Pkg, Front Seat Dual Zone Climate Control, and Rear Air Conditioning. I would appreciate any feedback.
thanks,

Is this a fair deal? I see some discussions that you can get a limited for $30000. Am I overpaying with this deal in Illinois?
Sports, 4x4
LA, QF, PN, TO, SR, mat and net for $31950 plus sales tax.
I don't need all the bells and whistle but mrs. needs leather and this is the first offer I got.

I went to a dealer yesterday and they offered $31000 for 2009 highlander 2WD V6 Base. I thought that doesn't make sense. what's the right price for it?
I thought of buying 2009 highlander sport 2WD v6 w/ navigation sys. and leather seat. How much is right the price? Im thinking around $29000.

I am not an expert on auto pricing but based on my recent purchase experience here is my opinion.
Navigation and leather seats are higher end options. It is unlikely you will find one with those and not other options already added. Several options are tied to packages where you have to get other options just to get the one option you want. Based on the MRSP prices for Sport V6 the starting MRSP is $30,0000. Add navigation $2500 and leather seats $1840 and you are up to $34,370 MRSP. There will likely be a destination charge and several other options already on the car. In California there is also a mandatory emissions package, I don't know what other states might charge. The dealer had to pay for all of the options on the car so even if you don't want them they will charge you for them. Take a look at the example of prices for some common options in my post #3788 a couple of pages back. Find out what all of the options are on the car you are looking at buying and look at the total MRSP. In today's market you should be able to get that down a few thousand dollars. We paid $400 above invoice which I think is reasonable and that was around $4500 below MRSP.
The price is even more complicated than we sometimes think. We were looking a two different cars with pretty much the same options but one was about $1000 more (based on invoice price +$400) Apparently the invoice was higher on one because one of the two cars was purchased by the dealer when Toyota was offering the dealers a bonus on purchased and the other car did not have that bonus.
So, the bottom line is each car price is going to be a little different. It is not really possible to tell what price is good for the car without knowing a lot of detail about the exact car you are considering and any mandatory state requirements.

#3807 of 5158 Need Help With 08

Hi all!
I am in the market for an 08 Highlander. It appears that I missed the end of the year specials. I am looking to spend NO MORE than $24K for a vehicle.
One of the local dealers has a Toyota certified ’08 Highlander with the following options:
Blizzard Pearl
7 year/100K warranty
4X2 4-Cylinder
28,000 miles
Roof Rails
Light control Package (Daytime and auto off lights)
Cold Weather Package (heated sideviews and windshield de-icers)
Floor/Cargo Mats
KBB has this car at 22K. The dealer wants 21.9K.
What do you think is a realistic price? I am thinking of offering 19K. I’m pre-approved, have a blank check and ready to buy something soon. No trade-in.
Considering the deals that are out there, is it better to try for a 09?
Thanks a bunch!
