Out of sate sales tax by schristogmu

My previous experience is that when you buy a car out of state, you get a temporary tag -- then when you go to register the car in your home state (and get license plates) you pay your state's sales tax. In other words, you don't pay any sales tax to the other state.

This was my experience when I purchased a car in MD -- I live in VA

You do not have to finance through Toyota if you take the $5k rebate. I took the rebate and financed through another lender.

You pay the tax on the price before rebate -- that's the law in most states, which define a cash rebate as cash applied to the sale, like the down payment. There are a couple of states that are different, where you pay tax on the post-rebate price (I think Delaware may be one), but the bottom line is that its not a dealer decision, it depends on the state law.

I did most of the dealing through the internet and when we had most of the things worked out we then finished it over the phone. As for leasing, the dealership found a better rate than I could get here in Richmond. You do not have to go through Toyota financial to get the rebate. That is a separate thing altogether.

Barkley Toyota delivery price correction by RIchmondguy

I found out that the price I paid for delivery was a mistake. I did pay $300 but it was accidently mis-quoted and the price should have been $500. The dealership realized their error (after they quoted) and didn't charge me the difference but I wanted everyone to be clear that if they live in Richmond-north the price to deliver would be higher (I was wondering how they could deliver so cheaply).

I am curious what people think is a good lease rate on a Limited with about $3K of extra options, which in NC would make the Cap Cost just about $28,700. I would prefer to buy it outright, but given the fact that I am really hard on cars, will most likely be right at 15K miles each year and it is being used a family transport with 2 young kids, it just makes more sense to lease at this point. At any rate, I was wondering what kind of money factor I would be looking at and what the depreciation should be for a 3 or 4 year lease. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

When they delivered the car did they drive it, or did they have it on a trailer?

We did make a trip to Jim Barkley Toyota and I want to thank everyone on this forum that led us to that dealership. We were very pleased with our deal. Ty was our salesman and he was great. This was definitely the no stress, best way to purchase a car. The price was well worth our trip. We gained a short vacation to Asheville and received the Highlander that we love. We have been researching prices for over 6-7 months and are so glad that we waited for this deal. I'd recommend this dealership to anyone! Thanks again!

My car was in the same delivery as Richmondguy's and they drove them up to Virginia and Maryland . . . which I actually preferred; I didn't mind the extra mileage (which would also have been on there if I had driven down to NC and drive the car back) and I have had bad experiences with cars being damaged on trailers. Plus, the driver specifically mentioned he didn't use cruise control since you are not supposed to have a consistent speed for too long under 1000 miles, so that made me feel like they were taking extra care to make sure the car arrived safely and in good health.

They drove it and also like DjDave's reply, they said that they didn't use cruise control because the car was so new. They recommended that we start using it after 1000 miles or so.

The car was delivered clean and well taken care of plus the dealership followed up with a phone call a few days later asking if everything was to my satisfaction.
