What was the sale price of the car before tax and fees? It sounds like you got a great deal.

08 Toyota Highlander AWD Wind Noise if Rear window down by audifans

Hi Folks
I just bought a used 08 Highlander AWD (Prior Rental) Its run great and very quiet on the road. Its handle a lot like a Audi Quattro, much better than just two 2 wheel drive , in my humble opinion. I own the car for just couple days. To my surprise when I lowered the rear window, at above 40 mph, the wind noise was so loud, I thought a Helicopter is hovering behind the car. Took its to a local dealer for a test drive and mechanic told me everything (drivetrain) is quiet inside the cabin when the rear windows are up. My wife sit in the 3rd seat and she sad its sound quiet too. Please give feedback thanks

Richmonder, thanks for your information. Leith Toyota came close but wouldn't match your deal, I even spoke with your same salesman. I ended up going with Jim Barkley Toyota in Asheville and picked up a Waveline Pearl Limited for $28,888 OTD. Will have to pay VA tax and tags here in Virginia. Bought yesterday and having delivered this morning for $300. Same options as yours but w/o the moonroof. Stayed away from the navigation system as many reports have been negative plus when you have the navigation system in-it reduces the CD amount you have load from 6 down to 4.

None of the Virginia dealerships would come close to matching the price.

Sometimes it happens in different vehicles. We have a Camry and whenever the wind vibration noise starts, I crack the drivers window about 1/2" and it seems to take care of the problem.

Hi iwantvan, I am very interested in knowing more your buying experience from Jim Barkley if you are willing to share, since I am going to buy one Highlander soon. I am in NJ but the price I got is way higher than Jim Barkley's. I don't mind travel to NC to save $3k. My questions are: 1) is the price you paid the same as they posted online? Any negotiation margin? 2) does the price include the SE area rebate? In other words, is the tax you paid based on $36288 but not $31288? 3) Can you take the 0% for 60mon advantage if you are not living in SE region? 4) Did you work out all the necessary paperwork before you came down the dealer or after you arrive? Thanks.

Ha ha ha! I think its a very small world, Richmondguy. Jim Barkley Toyota is also delivering my car today up here in Maryland, but called me and said they were running a little late because they had to deliver another car first on the way up -- I'm guessing its yours!

Dj Dave,

Was yours the red one? Nice car. I was first on the list as I was closest to them, then they were delivering a silver one on the other side of Richmond and then they were heading up to your house.

I was very impressed with the way Jim Barkley Toyota handled everything. Their driver showed us everything the Highlander had to offer and how to use it. Answered every question my wife and I had. Very professional.

I would recommend them to any potential buyer.

Yep, the red one was mine! I too was very impressed with how they handled everything as well. I have to admit I was a little nervous about buying out of state and having the car delivered, but it went great and I would also not hesitate to recommend them.

out-of-stater buys Highlander from Jim Barkley by flyingtiger98

I'd love to get some help from all the experts on this forum, especially those who bought your Highlander from Jim Barkley out of state. I am in NJ but the price I got is far higher than Jim Barkley's. I don't mind travel to NC to save $3k. My questions are: 1) is the price you paid the same as they posted online? Any negotiation margin? 2) does the price include the SE area rebate? In other words, is the tax you paid based on the selling price+$5K but not the selling price? 3) Can you take the 0% for 60 months advantage if you are not living in SE region? 4) Did you work out all the necessary paperwork before you came down the dealer or after you arrive? 5) Can they hold the car for you for few days? Thanks.

I didn't buy from JB, but I did purchase here in the SE recently and I can answer a few of your questions while you wait for some of the JB customers to add their input...

1) From all accounts on this forum, JB's advertised web price is what they will sell the car for + TTL. They apparently do not charge dealer fees which saves anywhere from $399 to $699 compared to some of the other dealers here in NC. I don't recall others mentioning any additional negotiating room off the advertised web price, but can't hurt to try.

2) The web price does include the $5k SE rebate. However, the sales tax is calculated off of the price before the $5k rebate is applied.

3) Not sure about the financing question. However, I'd be surprised if it didn't cost you less over the life of the loan to take the rebate. Edmunds has a good Low APR vs. Rebate calculator so you can crunch the numbers to see which makes more sense.
