Feeling like a fool........... by krb1

After I have read several posts here I feel like a fool. I have just purchased a 2008 Highlander Ltd. 4WD pre-certified with almost 25,000 miles on it for $36,967 + tax and fees. (purchase made in Connecticut)
It has leather seats in all 3 rows, JBL premium audio system with 4-CD changer & Bluetooth, power back door, heated seats, satelite radio ready, navigation, special paint, driver's seat with power adjustable lumbar support, rear view camera, dual illuminating vanity mirrors, alarm system, smart key start, keyless entry w/chrome trim on the outside, rear heat system with controls in back, sunroof.
After reading several of the posts I am realizing that I was completely taken advantage of. I specifically selected a dealership that is a BBB member and also provides AAA members with their best haggle-free price.
The only positive thing that I can add is that I will have free oil change for life, free tires, and free battery for life as long as I service the car with them.
I thought that I did my research on pricing, but I guess I still have a lot to learn. Ouch, this hurts.

First Offer on 2008 Highlander Limited by cfunn

Vehicle is 2008 Limited, Peral White, Ash Leather. Add ons are 6 disc JBL system, Blue tooth, Heated front seats, Power rear door, Rear Air, Window tint, XM installed, Carpet Mat set, Wheel locks. Current offer=$31809.22 + TTL $34046.36 drive out. No finacing. Taking the $2000 rebate. Question about rebate. Should I be looking for a better price and get the rebate cash, or are they always going to take the rebate from the price offered? I guess it is all the same, just looks like the dealer is giving less, by giving me the rebate I already get?

Highlander SPORT 4WD - Pricing in DC/VA/MD? by dchoosie

Hello - I am looking to purchase a 2008 Highlander SPORT 4WD in the next few weeks. The options are:
Auto Rear HVAC
Cold Weather Pkg
Front Dual Zone Auto HVAC
Homelink
JBL w/BlueTooth
Sunroof
Tow package
Mud Guards
Carpet Floor/Cargo Mats

The dealer is offering me $30,934 +Title + Taxes + Tags + processing fee. This does not include the 2k rebate that they're offering now. The out the door price is 32,300. I looked up the invoice and it's $31300 (this includes the destination charge). In short, they're giving me roughly $400 below invoice. Good deal or not? I've seen some posts here that say I should be able to get at least $2000 below invoice. Are people actually getting that? And is that with the 2k cash rebate or not?

Any help you can provide would be great. With the economy the way it is, we're trying to save money where possible!!!

Does your price of $31,809.22 include the $2k rebate already?

Sorry that happend, krb1. My first inclination to run, not walk from this deal would have been the 25K on the odometer for an '08 model-year HL. Research, research, research....

In today's economy, it is a buyer's market. If you've got the credit score to warrant the Top Tier financing options, you can pretty much name your price. If the salesperson doesn't want to do the deal, leave and wait for the inevitable phone call in a few days from his/her sales manager, then the new car manager, then the general manager, and then the owner.

Yes the offer is 33809.22 less $2000 rebate= 31809.22 After TTL drive out is $34046.36. I was hoping for a drive out around $30,000. no financing. Am I crazy or will December help me get there?

I looked up invoice prices for the options that you listed. It looks like the MSRP would be something like $36770 + the 745 destination charge. If that figure is accurate, the invoice is $32421+ the 745 destination charge. I think there is a dealer holdback of 632 available now. Taking all of that into account, the dealer (I think) should offer you 32,534. If you include the 2k rebate, that brings you closer to the $30k + TTL you're looking for. Now all of this is number crunching. I'm not sure a dealer would agree with my logic. Others, please chime in with your experience. I'm still trying to get a good deal on my Highlander Sport 4wd.

Thanks for the post, mdhutton. I am the most upset with myself for not walking away. Well, too late now. I still might go to AAA and tell them about my experience.

Highlander Limited AWD - 38K MSRP by jmg_50

Hi! I am looking for pricing on a Highlander Limited AWD in NJ which comes prepackaged with some options and has an MSRP of roughly 38K. So far I have gotten quotes in the low 33K (including destination but excl TTL). THis includes the 1250 for not taking the 0% APR financing. Is this a good deal? In this 38K MSRP SUV you are not getting navigation and rear entertainment. For that there is a 42K MSRP model. Also, what is the 2K rebate people are talking about? I am not able to find out anything about it.

Would be interested in learning what other quotes people have.

I have seen posts saying sellers will sell 2000 below invoice too. Unfortunately, the dealer doesn't agree. I offered a dealership 34,500 OTD for a sport 4WD with leather, sunroof, power rear door, auto rear, climate control, navi, heated front seats, loaded with everything I'd like. THe MSRP was 39,774. They would not go any lower than 37,157 OTD. I think with 2009's out with this economy, my offer should have been taken. Am I only wishful thinking? We've been looking for a year, but I can keep waiting until the price comes down.
