car4us4,
Is the Hybrid quote for a 2009 or 2008?
What dealer in Colorado?
I'm looking for a 2008 Highlander Sport 4WD.
My wife and I are ready to buy any day now. The cut off for Toyota specials and incentives is 9/30/08. After 9/30, Toyota will have to offer bigger and better incentives if they want to sell floor stock. I'll have my eyes and ears open starting 10/1/08 for bargain pricing.

It's a 2009 that will be coming in the 1st week of October. I'm not sure of the dealer, because I am using a car broker. I was quoted on the same vehicle that was a 2008 at dealer invoice which was about $1,500 less than the 2009. We're leaning towards the 2009, because the depreciation on the 2008 already exceeds $1,500 (probably closer to $3-4K). I think we're getting a good deal, but in my mind, I'd like to hear somebody else say that it's a good deal.

Thanks!!

I have decided that I want a Toyoya Highlander. I have been told by two local dealerships that they will pull the invoice on a 2008 (Limited or Sport) and that is what I will pay minus rebates. I am waiting to see what the October rebates will look like. I read another entry that said it may be better to get a 2009 because of 3-4 thousand depreciation of the 2008. Is this correct?. There are many limiteds on the lots in Baton Rouge, LA. Should I try to get a better deal? Should I wait for 2009?

You should always take into account the depreciation from the prior year model. If a dealership offers you a $3-$4K difference in the pricing than that's the decision to make. a $1-$2K difference doesn't warrant the savings in my mind. If you're short of cash, that's a whole different story. This is just totally my opinion though.

Thank You,

I will run the numbers after the October rebates come out. If I buy what is on the car lot I will not be able to get what I want. I think they should take depreciation into account and the fact I am taking an automobile that is not exactly what I want. If they are not willing to do this I will order an 09 and get what I want. At this point the MSRP is $37,000 and the best they will do is $32,000. This is before TTL. This is not good enough when I take depreciation into account.

Anyone know what may be offered as a rebate in October? Any good guesses?

Hi,

You might want to indicate what city you are buying in. Toyota Motors incentives can vary from region to region sometimes.

Here in SoCalif, for the 2008 Highlander (non-hybrid) my guess it will remain $1000 cash rebate or 4.9% financing. I am hoping for more - something like $1,500.

Toyota Corporate will not announce the new incentives in each region for a least a couple days after the first of each month. I remember this from the start of September, it was not announced until the Sept 3rd. I was hoping for Toyota to sweeten the incentives then. It has been $1000 rebate for the last two months.

Come on Toyota prove me way wrong!!!

I'm purchasing in Denver and our dealer is holding to his original deal of $1,000 over invoice on a 2009 Hybrid Limited that is very loaded. This price then comes to slightly over $45,000. I still think this is a really sweet deal. This vehicle is the exact color and has all of the exact extras we are looking for. Is anyone in agreement with my thoughts. I sure hope so. The vehicle is scheduled to arrive in the next week.

Hi,

As far as your deal on 2009 goes, feel I am out of school on how your numbers sound.

One thing I would explore is whether the dealer with any certainty can guarantee the delivery date on the vehicle. If they cannot or say it is an estimated time I would be weary to commit financially in anyway.

They could keep moving the date back until the vehicle can be found or arrives a month later. Just something I would ask about first. A large volume dealer here in my area SoCalif, have told it would be "a couple of weeks" before the 2009 are in transit, however they would order a 2009 any way I wanted it to be. I did'nt feel the warm and fuzzy with that.

I am still focused on a 2008. Let us know what you hear.

It should be OK, but may not be a very good deal, considering that dealers have $1,000 holdback in its invoice price, about $1,000~$2,000 incentive/bonus for hybrid if they could reach their monthly sales target, and manufacturer to customer rebate (generally customer gives it to dealer to lower the price), their real cost should be lower than what shows in their invoice price. It is true that hybrid is hot but it doesn't mean that they don't have room to lower their price for this end of year model. Ask other dealer to quote the same vehicle (send them VIN #) since it is pretty common for dealers to transfer vehicles in the same or close areas for free. Others may give you better quote, which you could use to negotiate with this dealer to lower its price. My 2 cents and good luck.
