I very much agree that Toyota's strategy of introducing new model year vehicles is a little too late. I was planning on buying a Highlander or Murano. The Toyota website also does not talk about 09 Highlander. All that is there, is about 09 Camry and 09 Venza. As for Highlander and Murano, I found that a decent 09 Murano SL is available at around $29800 MSRP, where as 08 Highlander Sport (1 year older model) is sold at $31200. These two models/ styles are equally comparable. Now with such price difference, I believe most people would strongly consider a 09 Murano SL. Most dealers here in North Texas have Highlanders with some or other options and accessories which a common man may not need at all.
Further, I do not see any reason for a 09 Highlander to be revamped completely from its 08 sibling. Infact, 08 Highlander was very much redesigned from 07. Now that Toyota plans to introduce 09 Venza, I think we'll have to live with a 08 Highlander. Venza seems to be good but as with Toyota's mktng strategy, they'll hype the model and dealers will ask for premium on these. 09 Venza may be priced in the range $32000 to $40000. Just my forethought.
Will wait till end of month to see any great deals available on Highlanders or Muranos and then go with one that is most economical.
Pl share your thoughts.
Thanks
uds

Info needed to buy new Highlander in Pittsburgh area by jhorn

I am planning to buy an AWD Highlander with either Base or Sport trim levels in the Pittsburgh area. I got a couple quotes from two local dealers, Spitzer and Washington Automall. They are all willing to sell Highlanders at invoice - $1000 Toyota rebate. Does anyone know if this is the best deal right now? Any advice is appreciated.

Thanks,

John

Check out the Fitzmall: http://www.fitzmall.com/

They are selling close to $2k below invoice. You would have to drive a little, though. I am planning to either buy from Fitzmall or use them to negotiate a lower price at our local dealership (upstate NY). Let me know what you think.

Edmunds gives you much better value for your highlander. I don't know why; but dealers generally accept estimates from Edmunds.

uds,

I like Nissan as a total product especially the styling and price point of the Murano.
You of course can get the 2009 NOW. The only drawback from my own point of view is the the Murano (which is the Altima engine base) requires premium fuel. An additional item that attracted me to the Highlander is the third row seating which a couple of other manufacturers do not offer in this category.

It still is very strange that nobody know any firm dates on the arrival of the 2009 Highlander. Nor does the Toyota website promote it in any extensive fashion.

Again, buying or leasing an 2008 Highlander unless it has "end of model year" price, I think is senseless. Compared to all the other manufacters who have 2009 (and have had them for a couple of months now) one would be buying/lease a model year back with the Highlander.

From what I see in my region, So Calif, the Toyota dealers have a huge inventory of 2008's they will still have to move. The largest volume dealer here has 137 Highlander in inventory today. If they do not start a different sales strategy soon they will a glut of 2008 still in the coming months.

Enxaga, I'm also in the L.A. area looking to buy a Highlander LTD with Nav, rear air and pb. I was going to wait for their 'end of model year' sale to buy. Maybe we can get a better deal if we get together to negotiate.

1headlight,
If a few of us in the So. Cal. area would get together to get quotes on several Highlanders we most probably get a better price. Let's get together.

I recently purchased a HL Sport 2WD with the following options.

1. Leather Seat Package Includes: Leather-LAAT
Trim Seats and Multi-Stage Heated Front
2. Tow Prep Package includes: 5,000lbs
3. Navigation System
    Voice-Activation and JBL AM/FM 4-Disc and Bluetooth
4. Power Rear Door-PBAT
5. Front Auto Dual Zone Climate Control-QCAT
6. Auto Rear Air Conditioning System-QRAT
7. Homelink Universal Transceiver-HJAT
8. Power Tilt/Slide Moonroof w/Sunshade-SRAT
9. All Season Mats w/Cargo Mat

The MSRP was $38,169 with options. I got it for $32,700 (after $1,500 rebate in FL).
Is it a good deal or not? I traded my 07 Camry LE for it. I got a descent KBB price for it.
