Replying to: donato3 (May 05, 2001 12:51 pm) I live in the Danbury area and just starting looking for an AWD, fold down third seat, V6. Was wondering where the best deal is. Have feelers out to GreenTree Toyota, Mt. Kisco and Wappingers Falls. Suggestions would be appreciated. Txs.. Redman3 |

I test drove an 06 HL Limited this weekend. I was impressed with the tight handling for an SUV and the ride was quiet and smooth. The seating was very comfortable but I don't think more than 2 people could sit comfortably in the rear seat. And of course the third row seats are a joke but not a problem for me since I'd never use them anyway. There were a couple of things that concerned me. One is the design of the center console. It seems like a very poor design that leaves very little space for storage. There was no easily accessed tray or cubby to put your cell phone and other stuff. The cubby under the console looked like an after thought and not very convenient. I was also surprised at the amount of prime space used by ash trays. I'm not a smoker so they seemed to take up a lot of valuable space. I'm wondering how those who own HLs work around the lack of console storage? I'd much rather there be a high console with an arm rest instead of the flip down arms which seemed to be in the way all the time. I was also concerned about the lack of AC vents in the rear seats. This seems like a major oversight. The sales person was clueless. Is it true that there is heat for the 2nd and 3rd row but no AC? I also noticed that the rear tailgate opening was very rounded on the bottom corners and looked like it might make loading wide items difficult. Has anyone experienced any problems like that? Overall, I liked the HL very much. It seems to be an excellent compromise between a typical big SUV and a car, but I have a few reservations. I may be a little picky but I expect to drive the next vehicle I buy for 10+ years so I want to make sure I can live with what ever short comings it has. None are perfect. Thanks.

Replying to: coloron (Nov 28, 2005 1:29 pm) the HL does have heat in the back but not ac no idea why but the kids seem to like it better then the rear ac in my dodge (only cause its winter time here) the 3rd row seats work great for small kids but no way for adults as for the rear hatch and loading i have not tried any thing but a small box so no comment there. Over all we are very pleased with our purchase. |

Replying to: coloron (Nov 28, 2005 1:29 pm) There are AC ducts under the front seats supplying AC to the second row seats; I'm pretty sure the second row seats get both heat and AC; don't know about the third row seats as I don't have them on my HL. The only wide item I've ever loaded in the cargo area was a 4x8' sheet of plywood, and it was extremely awkward and would never do it again as the HL is definitely not suited for hauling this size material. Otherwise it's great -- I've packed it full of moving boxes, even a 6' step ladder and 8' 2x4s (after reclining the front passenger seat); it's amazing how much stuff you can fit in there. But when recently picking up a new oven I took my pickup as I wasn't sure whether it would fit in the HL. You should also be aware that the rear window does not open on the HL as some people like leaving long stuff sticking out the rear windows when hauling in their SUVs. It really depends on what kind of stuff you're planning on carrying. Overall the HL's a great vehicle as you already noted and I suspect you'll be very happy with it. It's quiet, very smooth, and has good power (even the 4cyl models); it's a car people fall in love with! |

| Thanks guys,i'm so encouraged by this so far. I could have closed the deal the other day but since the dealership is quite a ways from where I live and the fact that we got a lot of things going on lately I just couldn't make the time to do so. Either way I already signed a purchase agreement (buyer order form) with the said price on it last week, it's just that at that time they didn't have the color that I wanted in stock (it's actually my fault, coming in I had already asked for the color that I want which they have in stock, but for some reason when I got there before we close the deal I had a change of heart with the color that I want). So my bad. | |
