Value of Extended Warranty by orcons77

So I have heard the arguments against buying an extended warranty, that it is essentially overpriced insurance that you don't need, but at some price it should be worthwhile. The question is what is that price?

On the web it looks like you can get a 7 Yr 100K mile extended warranty on a V6 AWD Highlander for about $1120. A dealer is offering me this warranty for $975. Is this worth it? Or is the dealer's cost still way under the $975 (which would imply I shouldn't pay for it.)

Any thoughts? Anyone know how to value an extended warranty? Thanks.

I'd never buy an extended warranty for a Honda or Toyota. But on a Chrysler, most definately. But if $975 gives you peace of mind, then go for it. Because that's really what an extended warranty is, peace of mind.

Oh, one more thing, make sure it's a warranty backed by the manufacturer, not some 3rd party. I got burned big time with Warranty Gold.

I have purchased an extended warranty before and paid 1500.00...........later found out that I could have negotiated and paid about a 1000.00
Never used it but it did feel good to buy it.
I just purchased a new Highlander and I refused extended warranty, but I know before new car warranty expires they will probably try to sell you one again by mail. Ask them if you can buy it later. Toyota's I think don't need one but if you drive hard and maintain your car poorly.....buy it.
I hope my opinion helps.....good luck.

" maintain your car poorly "

If you do that, you'll void the warranty. You gotta keep up on the maintenance per any warranty.

I have decided to purchase a Toyota Hylander limited AWD and I am trying to find out what rebates and incentives are currently available in the Oneonta/Cooperstown, NY area. What should be a price for the top of the line? What's the veridic on getting a factory Nav system? Any help will be appreciated.

Pricing on Demo by jcook

I got a internet price for a demo that was driven by the owners son. It is a 2005 AWD V6 with appearance, cold weather, preferred, and towing prep packages. It has a sunroof, curtain and side airbags, daytime running lights, and foglamps. The vehicle has 6,000 miles on it. I was quoted a price of $27,000. Is this a good price considering it has 6,000 miles? Anyone's help will be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

If it has leather option with 6 thousand miles I would say its a good deal.
If the offer is 27000.00 you owe it to yourself to offer 25k and see how they react.
Well thats my 2 cents worth.

I do recommend you run a Kelley blue book on it and see value.

My experience with warranty work is that they never ask for records.
