Well, went and bought the car! Pick it up tomorrow, can't wait. On the way, I called another dealer I had visited to look at a 2007 Civic, told him I was on my way to buy a new one, and wanted to see if he was interested in giving me a better price. He talked to the sales manager and said that was a great price, they couldn't beat it (or didn't want to?) He did say if they tried to sneak in an extra $1000 in "stuff" to come back and see him and he'd work out a deal.
Anyway, I feel comfortable I got a good deal. Note to anyone in the Atlanta area who is looking for a Civic - I bought mine at Gwinnett Place Honda - they have a ton of civics in stock. I also learned my MT civic has been on the lot since September!!! Hopefully that won't cause any issues. So if you are shopping, I'm sure that there are others on that lot that have been there for awhile, and you could use that as a good negotiation tool. I didn't learn this until everything was done and I was looking at the manual, and found the date when the tech signed it after inspection when it first came in. That is almost 6 months!
Anyway, good luck everyone!
#8321 of 10741 09 Civic LX-S Wheels VS EX Wheels
Apr 18, 2009 (3:50 am)
The 09 EX comes with new design wheels that I heard has received mixed reactions. I personally like it, but lools like some people like the old wheel style. Anyway, I had to downgrade to LX-S because the dealer sold the color of my choice on the EX. If there is someone in the Washington, DC to Richmond surrounding area who bought an 09 EX and do not like the wheels, please let me know. I am willing to swap my wheels that came on my LX-S. Thanks.

#8323 of 10741 Honda Civic LX at Houston, Texas
Apr 18, 2009 (2:09 pm)
I quoted from Gillman, McDavid, Russell&Smith, and Katy Cars of Honda. Among them, Russell is the lowest as following:
tax: $1,029.56 (6.25% in TX)
inventory tax: $40.39
document fee: $50.00
title fee: $33.00
license fee: $72.30
inspection fee: $23.75
total drive out: $17,722
Katy Cars of Honda and McDavid sales said they would like to match the offer, which I already feel overpriced by at least $1,000. How much shall I shed off?
I am looking at a target OTD price of $16,500; has someone in the greater Houston area has a recent purchase lower than $16,500? thanks.
#8324 of 10741 Sacramento Area $17,200 OTD for Civic LX AT sedan
Apr 18, 2009 (3:15 pm)
I just got an email from one of the local dealers and he said he could give me the Civic LX AT sedan for $17,200 OTD. So what this means is that I could have gotten LX-S for $17,900 OTD (+$700 invoice of LX). Oh well, I hope someone else could benefit from this. Also, if you are not in a hurry you might want to wait for the Memorial Day sale or few days before end of April to get some better deals (& remember that just like on April 1 we (CA) had sales tax increase of 1%, we are going to have a vehicle tag increase sometime in May) ...
Easy way to look at it is:
sales price Civic Auto LX $15,680 ($17,200 OTD)
sales price Civic Auto LX-S $16,380 ($17,900 OTD)

Atomic Blue LX-S
Tax: $787.55 (5%)
Cust Serv Fee: $299
Seems like a good internet quote but dealer absolutely refused to budge on first offer or let us leave the dealership then offered $40 off with change of color.
Very high pressure sale but price seems okay.
What do you guys think. Good deal? Could have been better? Generally happy but did not appreciate the high pressure sales tactics, didn't get top choice color (polished metal), and disappointed I didn't stand up and leave.
#8326 of 10741 LX / EX Coupe Manual 2009
Apr 18, 2009 (4:44 pm)
I am in the process of looking for a new car and have settled on either the LX or EX Civic Coupe Manual.
Any suggestions which is the better value, and what type of prices are folks buying these up for currently given the present state of the economy?
There looks like a lot of well informed people on this forum, and so any and all help and comments would be very much appreciated.

Wow, you blew my price away, I thought I had pretty good with $16,480 base (& 18,100 otd) - Honda must be offering some extra incentives. Did they say? Was yours auto or manual?

You got an awesome deal, really! LX-S for less than $17K OTD is unheard of. The best I've seen so far is $17,100 for just an LX, the LX-S are usully $500 more than that. I hear ya about the high pressure tactic but the dealer was probably desperate to sell and didn't want to let a genuine customer walk off the lot. Congrats on your new car! You got a great deal

You got a pretty good deal on urban titanuim civic LX-S. The difference in OTD price you are seeing is because of sales tax: 9% in CA, vs. only 5% in MA. This 4% difference in tax mean about $800 in OTD price. So your real difference is probably $200 but you got the most sought after hottest color (Urban Titanuim). $200 is a very small price to pay for the color you really want. Enjoy your new ride!
