If all other major car makers follow suit, resulting in an overall shortage of new cars, and also if car buyers don't continue flocking to used cars as they have been of late, yes, that could become more of a seller's market. But I wouldn't bet the farm on it if I were you.

BusinessWeek quotes Honda Motor Co. as saying that U.S. sales plunged 35%, while sales of Honda Civics fell 36% year-over-year. These numbers are from yesterday - http://www.businessweek.com/ap/financialnews/D95H6GBG0.htm.

I'm pulling for Honda and Toyota. They make good cars. I am also saying, however, that reducing or eliminating the rebates at this time is a bad move. We'll buy when the price lowers and that's how you'll reduce your overstock. Lots are packed with '08s and '09s, and there's less than a half a year left until the '10s arrive. Since the banks are keeping tight with the financing loans (not a problem for me with my cash in hand), lower prices are the solution to reducing supply. Bear out this economy and then a sellers' market will return. Layoffs at the plants are becoming public now.

Yep, I could see that happen in the northern states that use salt on the roads in the winter.

Alloy wheels by jimb519

Thanks to all who corrected me on the alloy wheel issue. Corrosion is the issue and is not limited to the Honda alloy wheels but to others as well. They do indeed look great but I did not want to take the chance this time around. This forum has been great for all those looking to buy. Great idea by billyriz post to ask for some add ons. My dealer did not hesitate for the splash guards and all season mats.

The leasing offers are up on Honda's website, still waiting for the financing ones,

I'm impatiently waiting for those since even though I have already given a 500 dlls deposit in Dec and kinda locked in w/the local honda, my car will arrive until Feb and therefore I'll be able to take advantage of the new 2009 offers.

GOOD color choice; Urban Titanium was my 1st and only choice. I don't care about the trunk lid spoiler on the LX-S, but the black interior, which is the same as the SI, is plenty fine; the wheels are a great deal and I absolutely love the leather-wrapped steering wheel. Very happy with my new 09

Yes, overall sales are down only 10% when compared to an annual basis, but keep in mind that sales didn't start tanking until closer to the end of the year. Honda was doing great this summer - the Civic was the best selling car in the US at one point.

Let's be honest, Honda is not gonna be looking at "overall annual" sales when coming up with rebates. They are more concerned about recent sales going back 2-3 months. Inventory is piling up everywhere. Executives can't just say "oh, no worries, our sales are only down 10% annually".

The fact is, sales are down over 30% when compared to the same period last year. I'm counting on the fact there will be better deals in the next few months.

"I'm counting on the fact there will be better deals in the next few months."

Remember, that is exactly what people were saying in November and December and look what happened. Honda pulled back ALL of the low APR options with little additional dealer support.

They (Honda) aren't as stressed about the current market like other manufactures. They have positioned themselves to have fewer cars produced for 2009 while still selling as many or more cars then they did in 2008.

Honda builds good cars and have never had to apologize for their prices. Unlike every other brand, they have never offered a consumer rebate or zero percent financing - and they never will.

i had the exact same situation. Guy offered me 16.7 with splash guards and another comes along with the 16.5 and i really feel bad but i had to go for the best deal. I really do feel awful cuz i told the guy over the phone i'll take his offer but when next phone call offered me something better i had to take it. Who knows, i may have had something better or not but i had to do everything monday morning so i could go to work later on. my phone kept ringing all day, i guess all dealers in the area were willing to get me to come in. i had a guy i walked out on call me wanting to know if i was in the market for a car. After 3hrs at the dealership, he came down to $17.2 and wouldn't go down any further. i saved myself 700 bucks from his lowest deal.
i do have to say few dealers here have 08's. i was in the market for a 2008 civic and i couldn't find it so i jumped on an 09. worth it!
