I have no idea what your rant was about?

I simply stated that we have no knowledge over what Honda may or may not do in the future.

People have a tendency to believe rumors especially when they like the content of the rumor.

I am planning to buy a honda civic lx and visited honda dealer this weekend.
He is giving me out the door price of $18500. I just started looking for it and dont have any idea about the price.
Any idead about the best otd price? or how much i can negociate with them.
Do they provide any free pckg or servicing with the vehicle?

****Using restraint here****

It seems no matter how low a dealer go's on a car, people still want more.

First of all, I have no idea exactly WHY a store would be willing to LOSE over 2600.00 on a new Civic? That is what they would be selling it for. 2600.00 under their invoice.

Yes, this is not a popular combination but they aren't distressed merchandise.

You can always offer anything I suppose.

It would seem they could take it to an auction and get more than that for it!

pricing and comparing Honda Civic with Corolla by mudslinger

I am in Los Angeles and am in the market for either a Honda Civic LX or a Toyota Corolla LE. Does anyone have any comparisons to make?

And what would be a decent OTD price for each of these cars?

Any thoughts about servicing these cars?

Have a price on the table of 17,100 including destination from a dealer is Rhode Island. Still working on figures but the lease money factor is impressive at only.00178 apposed to .00300 for the jetta.

Time will tell

Keep in mind that I am very strong negotiator and know a bit about car_selling games! Either Corolla or Civic it is a GAME!

My wife had 09 Corolla LE, Auto this summer
Price was $14,800 plus tax and DMV
Nice car, very easy to get in and out, comfortable seats, very quite ride. Very well designed car. Getting about 35-39 MPG most of the time. Very easy to maintain.

For 09 Civic LX Auto you can get low $16k if you shop around. I had one quote for 08 civic LX for $15.5k NYC/NJ area. Civic is a nice car too – but it is still just a Civic.
Honda dealers feel that Honda Civic is younger brother of BMW and will try to sell you for higher price. Don’t fall into it – it is still a Civic and will remain to be a Civic – which is very comparable with Corolla. It is seated a bit lower than Corolla and takes more effort to get in/out. Also, it has more noise in CIVIC than Corolla. You will hear all gears going from 1 to 5 in Civic while Corolla more quite/smooth. Having said all that, Civic is still a good car. It will have about same resale value in 5-6 years as Corolla depending how well you take care of it. The other thing is that Corolla LE will split rear seat 40/60 for skis, etc. while Honda dealer will tell you that rear seat split for Civic is a “luxury” upgrade and will ask you shovel extra $1200-$1300 and go to EX model.

I would suggest you request quotes on Edmunds from few zip codes around you and let dealers compete for you. Some of the largest dealerships get bonuses if they meet certain quotas selling cars, - they will usually give you the best deal. You have to “fish” for those guys. Don’t expect good services (or treated well) at those large places – but they probably will give you lowest price. Make sure you confirm that price includes all junk fees and destination but tax and DMV. Be clear that you don’t want THEM to waist YOUR time – and most will understand. Also, be Very Firm and Suppress_Your_Emotions when they show you that NEW CAR.

As far as service – the best service you will find is at Independent garage. Honda likes to pick your packets when you go for service. I brought in my 02 Honda Odyssey for cooling coolant flash last month. It took them 1.5 hours to do it and in addition to flashing my coolant, my visit resulted in SRS light coming on after I draw few miles off the dealership. Nice try - I am an engineer and can troubleshoot car computers very quickly. It took me few minutes to find “disconnected seat belt sensor connector” under passenger seat and then few more minutes to reset SRS at MES connector. Some Honda dealers think that all customers are stupid and will believe everything they say/do. Apparently not all customers are that way – there are plenty of smart too – so please treat us with respect and we may go back to you! Maybe!

Good luck, Merry Christmas and Happy New Year.
God Bless.

If you don't mind, can you please let me know which dealership the price is from for the corolla and civic you mentioned.. If I need to go 500 miles to get deals like this, I will do it... I have quote of 15500+tax+title as the lowest for corolla and 16800+tax+title for civic lx so for in columbus OH area.

Thanks in advance!
