I ended up paying $22,409 ($22,350 + $59 DMV fees) + tax on an '09 Civic EX-L (auto) Sedan with Navi. I also got wheel locks (woo-hoo!!!). I traded in my 2006 Sonata V6 GLS with 65000 on miles on it - for which I got $6850, That seemed a lot better than the $6000 I expected after posing a trade-in question in the Read World Trade-In Value forum. They originally low-balled me at $5500 for it. I think I'm happy with the deal. I'm glad that I didn't buy in August/September when these were going for MSRP+. What do you think of my deal? Should I be happy?

OK, I actually went to the dealers yesterday.  The snowstorm here in Boston made me the only customer in both dealerships I visited  Here's the breakdown: Honda VP Automatic 2009, in my choice of color: 15,155 including destination+doc fees+5%tax +registration. They said it was $700 below invoice-I said I don't care. I offered $15200 out the door, paying cash. They refused. Corolla LE auto 2009: 14,995+doc fees+5% + registration. I offered 14,900 out the door-they refused. I walked on both dealerships. Disgusted, but not angry. I'll come back in a week or two.  Happy Holidays to all.

Replying to: shhessy (Dec 21, 2008 8:13 am) Just remember they can not do much about the 5% taxation and registration fees. I am guessing the destination charge is not negotiable also. Bottom line is treat them separate.. Doc fees (unless you have some quirky law/s) are to my knowledge, totally negotiable. If I remember correctly I paid like $25.00 doc fees to sit there and listen to the order writer try to up sell me for the time it took to complete the transaction. I sucked it up a tad because the finance guy had previously given me a tad over 0% APR financing. So over the life of the 45? some odd month loan , the nearest I can calculate, I paid app $260 interest. plus the $25 doc fee. To me, that made better sense than an all cash deal as it really depends how much income you can generate doing something else with the money you would have paid for the Civic/Corolla. Not to go too afar off topic, but one year I bought a vehicle on Dec 23, by the time we got down to the actual car (I wanted to see it) it was parked on literally a back dirt lot and TOTALLY dark. So I didn't really notice the real color until I got it home and in the light of the garage. At that time and date, I was also THE ONLY customer in the showroom. Again this is from fuzzy memory, but the salesman had to do the back and forth talk to the manager routine. Well he brings back a piece of paper with a merry xmas written on it and some further price to talk about and I just said the offer is xx,xxx. Do you want to sell this car to me today (dec 23)  xx,xxx. so this salesman can bring home his commission? yes/no? merry xmas to you whatever you decide. Then I started to put on my coat. He came back actually pretty quick with a YES!

Went to a few dealers today looking for a 2009 LX for 16500, and i found this deal instead. Tell me what you guys think: 2008 Civic EX Coupe w/ Navigation (5 speed manual) Black with grey interior <100 miles 1.9% financing So it's basically a left over 2008 model that they are trying to get rid of... We negotiated down to $16,888 + taxes title, etc. This is w/ 1.9% financing as well. Do you guys think this is a good deal? If so, do you think i can negotiate any further for this, or is that it? Anything else I should look for? Thanks!

Replying to: ilumo (Dec 21, 2008 4:37 pm) I found one just like yours when I was shopping around for $17,005 Plus TTL w/o NAV and with 71 miles. I would say go for it. The reason why I didn't take it is because I read a couple of bad reviews from Borman in Las Cruces that say that at the end they charge you extra for TTL and I didn't want to deal with that kind of people. I ended up buying from El Paso Honda, I got a manual 2009 LX-S instead for $17500 plus TTL. I was sad because I really wanted one w/a moonroof but anyway I'm happy with my purchase. If you are not in a hurry, I would also recommend to wait until Jan, the word is that Honda will go down to 0% APR once the current offer of 1.99 for 36 months and 3.99 for 60 expires on 1/5/09

I know that they (HONDA) are drastically reducing production, and next step would be to cut prices. Historically January/February is Veryyyyyyyyyy Slowwwwwwwwww in car business and Honda will loose market share big time if they dont put more incenitives. Across the industry sales this year are down 16 per cent, led by declines of 28 per cent for Chrysler LLC, 22 per cent for General Motors Corp. and 19 per cent for Ford Motor Co." I think you can easily draw from this and other data that Honda is LOOOsing market share Fast - propirtionally to other car makers. The only problem is that Honda is very secretive usually and will wait until January 5 in 2009 to maket is known. THey even keep this info from Honda dealers. Their delaers dont have clue what will happen with prices.
