It is a great car but not good for snow areas like Boston, Buffalo NY or Syracuse NY etc. I think you can do ALOT better than 17K (~16 and some change). Few dealer admitted to me that civics (or any other cars) just NOT moving (people stopped buying cars totally). By the way CIvic is Civic - it is not a Accord or Camry. Why should you be paying for Civic if you cab get Camry for few more hundreds, or get Corolla for thousands less. There is an expectation that HOnda will reduce the prices (behind the scenes) like others: Toyotas, Nissans and domestics in desparation to move some wheels of the lot. Notice that they cut the production but still HUGE oversupply of cars makes it dificult to sell for higher prices than others. Dont rush - just be very firm and you will get the deal of your life, even if you have to wait until January. Good luck, Happy Holidays

I think you can do a lot better than what you were quoted, at least 1k less. Remeber that many dealers are very short on cash/profit and are desporate for your business. The smart once will drop the price and make less $ but keep cars moving.

Replying to: civic09 (Dec 20, 2008 9:40 am) I am not sure if folks realize the design offices for the Civic (others also) are in So CA. So really the car is optimized for the LA LA environs. (aka doesn't snow much) We have a commute very similar to those in LA LA land and the Civic gets 38-42 mph. The one lone exception going on 56 mo/5 years has been this last month where the fuel mileage has dropped due to "winter like" (under 45 degrees F) conditions and the winter designer RUG to 33 mpg.

For me, the Toyota dealer is right in town and I can literally walk home from the dealership. Additionally they will pick you up and drop you off. If I ask them, the local dealership will flat bed the car from my house into the dealership. SO... it is actually much more convenient than again the closest Honda dealer. Sorry to hear about the untimely accident (not that an accident is ever timely) I really do not know what to tell you about the snow issue, other than I can visualize the issue. |

Thanks ruking1 for your input I would totally disagree with you regarding corolla. Listen both corolla and civic are very nice cars with comparable mpg in same class. Yes ride is different – but soothing like ride is individual preference. Corolla is softer, bit higher and gives quieter ride with simple controls and good safety equipment. My wife has 09 Corolla LE Automatic and I used couple of times. As far as price - she paid ~ high 14k (which included 1k graduation rebate and 0% for 36 month). Can you get equivalent Civic LX for that price? I just don’t think Honda can compete with Toyota’s corolla as far as price and financing. I personally found Hondas dealers be much more arrogant than Toyotas. By the way they (Hondas mechanics) will pick on your packets when you go back to service your car: have seen in the past how they overcharged and done unnecessary work at least at two Honda places. At the same time at Toyotas mechanics found to be more transparent. One of the reasons I take my Honda to independent folks now: much cheaper and a lot better service. But, now days, Toyota is reacting quickly to economic conditions by reducing prices and offering 0%... While Honda continue to loose market share with stubborn pricing techniques and some dishonest dealers. – just my two cents.

Replying to: civic09 (Dec 20, 2008 12:30 pm) Again because of great logistic and support services of Toyota (in town) it would have almost been a total no brainer to go with Toyota: IF they would have matched the price and financing. They did not. So if I were in the market, (and it is conversely a GREAT time to be in the market) shop them both and one CAN pick based on price. Since that time another local area Honda dealer is/was scheduled to come into the site right next to the Toyota dealer. However, I am sure the current economic situation MIGHT alter the new construction of the Honda dealership. |

Replying to: gr8cars (Dec 20, 2008 1:22 pm) In this case, I would go with the Corolla. (16.8-15.5k=) $1.3k buys a LOAD of commute fuel. ( 1.69 per gal, 38 mpg/$1,300= 769 gals= 29,231 miles of commuting. )
