Agree with Amking about the Fee slapped on in some States. In Florida its $599.00 and absolutely no way to reduce that one. You can with other stuff but not the Doc Fee's in Florida.

Its actually called "Pre-Delivery Service Fee" in Florida and its in Black Bold Type over all other printed numbers on the Sales Contract

For my $599.00, then it makes sense to shop in places that have lower doc fees! Tax and title will still be the same, as the rate is where the car is domiciled anyway. Again this is pretty easy to find out from the git go. Just ask them. If they have what you happen to like, and the doc fee is (still ) high, go to the dealer that has low doc fees and tell them to search the inventory and/or ID the store that has the exact one you happen to want.

Shopping dealer fees is a huge waste of time, way too many other variables in the transaction. Just make sure you know what they are when starting the negotiations and be sure to reduce your offered price by the amount of their dealer fee.

I can understand that take/ attitude, especially since they are your nickels!

When I bought one of mine, (non Civic, $ 30. doc fees and the transaction was conducted over the phone, tops 7 mins) they also asked how I wanted it delivered ( even offering to drop it in front of my house) at no extra charge. The variables in the transaction were

1. 300 over
2. invoice
3. 30 doc fees.
4. plus TTL)
5. full tank

The Civic was 10% under invoice, $24. doc fees. plus TTL, full tank.

Rediculosly high down here in South Florida but 99% won't budge. Just need to get an OTD price and let them jockey the numbers around. Florida sucks for many things...doc fees being just one of them.

Finished the purchase, pretty smooth after getting a few bids, and then over the phone numbers, pretty much held to when at the dealership - Everett, MA Honda Cars of Boston.

2009 Honda Civic EX - took a car off the lot, 4 miles, Silver (not my first choice, but I am not that picky on color - just wanted a gray interior, which it has). They had three other colors.
Cost: $18,600 (includes destination, before Tax & Title).
Edmunds lists invoice at $19,034, and Intellichoice at $18,639 - so looks like invoice is not a single number, and that makes it $400 under Edmund's invoice.

Doc fee $200, Title Fees for Transfer $80, Sales Tax of 5%.

I also got some accessories, all in all, pretty good deal overall.

Spell Check by sandman46

I tried that spell check to get the correct spelling of "ridiculous" and it just didn't work...my bad! The '09's are few and far between down here in South Florida...they still have '08's at my dealers front lot.

Hello,

I am in Davis, near Sacramento.
Maybe I could get 17,000+the fees. (still communicating with the dealers)

Is this a good price in this area?
Could anybody near this area share your price?

Thank you!

Hi,
I am a new Civic shopper in Newark, DE area. I like to know a dealer who will beat the price I have right now with me in Scott Honda who gave me OTD price of $19900 with Leather wrapped steering wheel, Chrome exhaust finisher and Splash guards. I hope the EX comes with Carpet mats.

Can some one share your experience and thoughts about this deal too.
