Tax Credit Loophole by kmcclafferty

A caution on the tax credit. I utilized the tax credit as part of the motivation for purchasing my Civic Hybrid, however (furtunately and unfortunately) I make too much money and have too many deductions already to be able to take full advantage of the credit. I was only able to use about $300 worth of the credit. Apparently, the AMT can limit the amount of the credit you are able to utilize. Do some research before you count on the credit. I have a question, when you guys negotiated with the salesman, and then agreed to the final price, during the paperwork did ur business finance guy say that alarm does not come with the car and said he had to add $500 to the price to activate the alarm. Is that how it normally is?

Did I get an okay deal on the car? Sales tax was 8 percent, and got it 23000 otd including the alarm.

Think you got taken on that alarm & I'd go back and talk with the general manager and call Honda. Seems like a scam to me.

so the alarm for sure is standard equipment? I mean i did argue that the alarm should be included in the sale price... but he gave me some explanation about liability issues of having the alarm activated during shipping or something like that. It sounded convincing enough and we were almost done with paperwork so..

What kind of alarm is the dealer talking about? It's possible they installed an aftermarket alarm on the car to better protect it while it's on the lot. That would be in addition to the alarm that comes from the factory on the EX.

If they're talking about a fee to activate the factory-installed alarm, it's bogus from a couple of perspectives: 1) it should be included in dealer prep, which as it says on the window sticker, is included in the vehicle's price, and 2) it would probably take the dealer at most 5 minutes to activate the alarm--assuming it needs to be activated. So that's worth $500?

i dont remember well because my parents were dealing with the salesmen in korean. I remember them saying the alarm has a shock sensor. Also when its locked, a red light blinks in the dash and a bright blue led light blinks to the left of the steering wheel.

Two lights? Then it appears that two alarms are involved here. Maybe a Civic EX owner can tell us if the factory alarm has a shock sensor, and two lights as you described.

Do not buy the extended warranty from any Honda dealer if it costs more than $800. If you must get an extended warranty you can purchase one online for around $750 dollars that covers 72 months/80,000 miles. A lot better deal. And do not go for that "tires for life" program either UNLESS you plan to get ALL your maintenance done at the dealership where you bought your car. After reading all the exclusions and stipulations I cancelled the one I bought knowing I could never keep the terms of the agreement.
