Civic LX (AT) in Chicagoland by drwatson

Instead of walking in the dealer, I went through the Internet/Request Quote.
- The price I was given was $16,629, which includes destination fee already.
- To the above price I only needed to add the usual tax/title/etc.
- Sales tax were 6.5% (I was told sales tax in IL will go up to 7% April 1st - I don't know if that is true).
- Out of the door price: $18,138
- Finance rate for 60 mos. was 3.9% (again, they told me that rate is going away very soon). No money down was required.
Maybe I could get a better price if I shopped around a little more, but I feel that I got a decent deal and a very straight forward experience.
I got the car at Rosen Honda of Gurnee and I have no complaints about the service, considering it was a busy Saturday after a snowstorm.

What does the dealer really pay for the car? by tbm4530

Does anyone really know what a dealer pays the manufacturer, after the holdbacks, ads fee, floor plan fees. How do I make an offer that gives the dealer a 3-5%
profit if I don't know exactly what he paid for it.

It doesn't matter what the dealer really paid in the end and you're never likely to find out unless you own a car dealership.
offer the dealer invoice, it's listed on edmunds and other places. Then add on the destination charge, and maybe $160 for Dealer Documentation fees. That should be the price you pay for the car. It doesn't matter how much the dealer has paid for the car. it's what you can buy it for.
If you want to see real insanity, get a job working as a driver for a used car dealer and go to the auctions, since you will have to drive a vehicle back.
You will be amazed at what cars truly sell for even only 1 year old. There is a reason car dealers have million dollar showrooms.
Nonetheless, invoice plus destination and a reasonable doc fee is a good price. Yes, you can certainly get below invoice on certain cars. I doubt it's possible on a civic right now buy you can always try and forget the 3-5% profit that's a load of Hooey. No matter what the dealer ends up selling the car for rest assured they ARE making a profit. If they aren't, they wouldn't sell it to you.
This isn't like tipping at a restaurant. The perks for selling in volume are probably far greater than we know.
Invoice or below and walk if you don't get your price. The Honda Dealer i bought from was willing to give me Invoice on everything but a CR-V and a Civic Si and I could have gotten invoice on the Si if I had pushed for it.
The dealer worked so hard to get me into a car that day that I wasn't interested in haggling at the time.
They went all out, unlike the places I went to yesterday looking for a second car. Subaru has mostly rude salespeople or disinterested at best.
Several others were ok. The Toyota guy practically did backflips but he knows he has to wait til my time frame of 2 months as well as several other brands are looked at.
If they know you love the car, they will not drop the price and if you walk away they'll know you'll be back.
Deal with Internet sales managers and tell them what you want and haggle til you get it or buy a car from a dealer or brand that will give you the price you want.

firewill65,
Could you scan your buyer contract (block your personal information) and send it to me, baorulez at gmail dot com?

I am looking to buy a Civic LX auto sedan. The dealers around here would not quote me a reasonable price. They said they would match if they see a buyer contract.

Could someone send me your buyer contract with less than $18000 OTD?

Thanks a lot!

Guys --

I just bought a 08 Civic Sedan LX-Manual in the Northern VA area for $17,050 OTD (out-the-door). I don't have receipt in front of me but the invoice including freight was $16100 and the remaining was taxes, tags, and processing.

I really hope this was a good deal because I didn't do a lot of shopping around. What do you guys think?

I paid 16400 in RI. This is before the 7% state tax. I though I got a great deal. All negotiations were done online. No other dealership would beat it.
