Civic LX Sedan AT for $16,782 by dwynne

Hennessy in Woodstock, GA quoted me $16,782 for an 08 Civic sedan LX AT. This includes their $389 prep fee. GA residents would pay additional registration and lemon law fees ($42 + $13???).

Invoice is $16,984 so this is $202 under including dealer fees.

Hi!

I've looked into 08 Honda Civic LX a/t car offers aroudn the Peadmont of NC and the lowes I've gotten has been 16 850 (in Sanford). Where did you end up getting the best deal from? I am hoping to pay no more than 16 500 for the car but the offer for 16 200 sounds incredible! where did you get that offer from?

I used the Honda dealer located close to downtown Dallas. It wasn't the most competitive price but given our factors: expiration date on $3000 state voucher, mom's car in very poor mechanical condition, etc, I decided it was time to purchase the car.

You can do better than me. One of the managers countered my offer by explaining that it was a slow month and he needed the business. Maybe you can take advantage of this fact; that and waiting till the end of the month.

The F&I process was okay. You have to sit through their sales pitch for the extended warranties, theft protection, etc. As with my Accord purchase, they offered to buy down my finance rate but this was contingent on me purchasing their warranty. I declined. They were polite about it. I even asked them to remove one last item (etching fee ~250) from the final contract and they were polite about it too.

breakdown:

EX sedan: 19100
state voucher: -3000
tax: 1006.25
doc fee: 50 (capped in TX)
inventory tax: 40.03
license, registration: 127.55
deputy fee: 5
my end cost: 17328.83

One last thing, almost all Honda's in the D/FW area have additional dealer accessories, usually ProPack (cargo tray, splash guards, & wheel locks), pinstripes, door edge guards, and moonroof visor. Huggins & Eagle had the fewest dealer add-ons that I saw.

Hello from Sacramento, CA....

After phoning the internet sales people at around 10 dealerships in my area, it seems the going price for a 2008 civic (LX, 4 door, 5 spd) these days is $16,179. I did all the paperwork with one dealer who wanted 16,150, but then tried to tack on document charges and anti theft etching on the windows for over $200. I walked out and went to another that gave me the $16179 price. With registration fees and tax, it comes out to 17,657.

If you walk into a dealer, they sit down and try to rip you off. One guy tried to ask 22,350 for the same car! It's unbelievable! Talking to the internet sales people seems to be the best strategy - and never be afraid to walk out if they try to tack on extra charges.

I'm totally new at car buying and I'm from illinois. Yesterday my mom and I went to our local honda dealer in chicago to go look at the civic lx and they've technically sold us the car but it was too late to do all the finance and payment talk because they were closing. The deal we got was $16000 before taxes and stuff and they threw in a year of free oil changes and I'm wondering if that's a good deal. I also would like to know how much fees should I be expecting aside from tax. Also, should I consider going out into the suburbs to get a cheaper sales tax rate, because our chicago tax rate is 9% and the suburbs would be a less. What I don't know is if the same tax rate applies or not to car buying, to my knowledge it doesn't.

I feel bad since we would have blown off the dealer we were talking with but we didn't consider the tax rate and the tax would be a few hundred less.

Sounds like a good price on the car. Sales tax is based on your residence - not where you purchase the car. Make sure the dealer does not charge you much for all the "stuff" on top of the $16,000. Any more than $50 or so (not including sales tax) is pure profit.

We picked one up almost 2 weeks ago.
Price we paid was $20,999 OTD.
We have no sales tax and the dealer charges $399 for documentation and the like. They were really helpful and I still think it was a good price. Basically $500 over invoice plus their doc fees. I had to buy soon, so no choice there. My wife absolutely loves the car over anything else we looked at. We did beat the Edmunds TMV price, so we are happy about that and we are very happy with the Internet manager, that we dealt with.
I guess we could have nickeled and dimed them on the price a bit but they were light years ahead of the other dealership that was local to us.
I wanted an Accord but my wife didn't so we now have the Civic Si. Great car, good price, great dealership so far.
AutoFair Honda in Manchester, NH in case anyone wants to know.

Total OTD 19987

I'm satisfied that I got a good deal. I based my price on 7% off the total MSRP which I've used as a baseline in the past( I've bought or co-signed for 4 Civics in 8 years), and it's always been accepted.
