Could someone please explain why nadaguides.com says a 2006 Civic Coupe EX MT w/o nav and 30,000 miles goes for $17,625 when a brand new 2007 can be purchased at invoice for $17,815? I'd like to save money by purchasing a 2006 but $200 isn't enough of a discount. Tracy

I will pick up my new EX Friday. A trip from TX to CO is in the near future!! Hey current Civic owners, how many miles till the first oil change? And is it the old rule of limited revs for the first so many miles?? Thanks for any info.

Replying to: tprincipio (Sep 04, 2007 3:38 pm) http://www.edmunds.com/tmv/used/index.html I wouldn't pay $17,625 for a 2006 for the reason you stated. You should probably do some searches and find a real 2006 EX MT up for sale and compare them with a new car cost. Keep in mind your window for getting a new 2007 is closing fast.

Replying to: kyote (Sep 04, 2007 5:14 pm) When I bought my civic I know they said not to do the first oil change too soon (like before 3,000 or something) because there's special additives in the new oil and those need to stay in the engine for awhile. And I remember when I picked up my car the dealer told me to keep the revs under a certain level for the first so many miles. Can't remember the specifics, but I'm sure they'll fill you in when you pick up the car. Have a good trip to CO!

Your new Civic has an oil minder which adapts to the drivers driving style and will let you know by %'s when it's time to change the oil. I was told that when it gets to the 15% mark, it's time for a change. But ask the service manager when you get the new car. As for varying the speeds during the break in period, I was told to do this and I did. Worked great for me. It's a great car and I love my LX. It's my first Honda and I'm hooked at this point. Although I thought I did a lot of car research, I wasn't prepared for the pressure and time involved in buying a car (my first... I lived in Manhattan for years where only the wealthy own cars). I got a Civic EX sedan (not hybrid) for $18,750 incl. destination charge tonight. With 7% NJ sales tax, state fees, and minor dealer fees, the final price was $20,720. I came in for an LX and ended up upgrading to an EX because they didn't have any LXs in stock in nice colors. (Their offer was limited to in-stock only.) So it was either take the EX or switch to a Prius and pay $5000 more, and at the end my boyfriend offered to help with the higher cost so I caved. I'm tired, glad it's done, and confident that we have a solid car with good MPG (and it's red with a "moonroof" for fun). But I'm a little unhappy that I let myself be rushed into an overquick decision and maybe paid too much. Sorta wish I had held out for the Prius. So - was I had? I did hope for a better price during the clearance season. FWIW, the dealership was Metro Honda in Jersey City (a huge outfit). We liked our sales rep fine. My advice: Don't go car-shopping at night unless you've done a lot of the preliminary steps already. Everyone, including you, is tired and anxious to get home. Not the ideal conditions for a major purchase. |

Replying to: spunsilver (Sep 05, 2007 1:12 am) You asked: "So - was I had?" The last line of your post says it all: "Don't go car-shopping at night unless you've done a lot of the preliminary steps already. Everyone, including you, is tired and anxious to get home. Not the ideal conditions for a major purchase." You seem to have answered your own question. I estimate that you paid approximately $1,500 more than you had to IF you had followed your advice above. I estimate that you paid as much as $1,000 over invoice. Don't kick yourself though ... look at it this way: you just bought an '07 at an '08 price. The car is still new and the differences (in price) will fade as you own the car. If you plan to own it for 5 to 8 years then it all comes out in the wash.
