I just bought 2006 Civic 4 door LX AT $18038 OTD.
I am in Champaign, IL.

One month ago, I got some quotes and the price at
local dealer seems more expensive(16700+tax+TTL=18030)and
hard to negotiation. One dealer in Decatur offer me like 16400+fee.Last weekend I went to test drive in Decatur and sit down to talk about the price. The OTD is $18700.(The saleman added some rediculous fee). I said that some dealer offer me like 17700, he said it is impossible. For me, the car seems so popular that the saleman don't want to lower their price to get a customer.

After I came back, I try to call other dealers and ask
the price, most of them say the LX will be about 19000.
The price getting higher and higher. Then, I said my local
dealer give me an quote 18038 OTD. Most of them said
it is impossible. One dealer told me that "it is a good deal. if I were you, I will buy the car immediately, I won't waste my time to asking the price."

Since the saleman said that, I went to the local dealer
and buy the car in 10 min. Maybe it is possible to bargain
to get the lower price. But, after all the frustrated processes. I just want to get a car soon.

After buying a car by irislin23

I have a question:

Can I ask for some free service or "gift" from the dealer? such as free oil change or something else?

I have no idea about it? Can someone tell me?

I haven't paid for my car, I just paid a deposit and
going to get my car next week.

You can ask if they offer something like that for sure. Maybe they'll throw in a free oil change or something.

If it's the manufacturers financal institution, EX: American Honda or Toyota Motor Credit you're right. I'm talking about regular banks like Chase Manhatten or Fifth-third etc. They'll always have fees.

Sometimes when the manufacturer doesn't have any specials the local banks may have a better rate.

I understand both sides on the issue of test driving an SI:

You get all kinds of people wanting to joy ride and hotrod the car even if you go witht them.
Then a serious buyer comes in and doesn't want that one because it has miles on it. Either way you loose. You wasted time with the joyrider and lost the serious buyer because you can't get another one.

People who buy this type of car are often very particular about miles.

Thanks for that info about doc fees not being regulated in some states. They are in Ohio and they even publish a flier titled "Understanding Dealership Document Compliance."

Do you know if that applies to bank fees also? They are standard here with regular financial institutions excluding credit unions, and manufacturers financing.

Ohio tag fee is only $10.50 unless you're leasing. This is why OTD pricing is hard to discuss in this forum. Too many variables from state to state, county to county.
Concentrate on the price of the vehicle, and research other taxes and fees before you negotiate the deal.

Doc fees are regulated in Ohio? I wasn't aware of that.. I just leased a car from an Ohio dealership in November.. They had a $100 pre-printed doc fee on their sales order, but since we had already agreed to a price, it was crossed out.

Bank fees associated with leases are usually required by the lending institution.. They aren't regulated, but you can't get rid of them, either.. Some banks allow the dealers to mark-up the fee for extra profit... the marked-up portion is negotiable. I'm pretty sure that Honda Finance's fee is $595.

regards,
kyfdx
