Check the maximum load listed for your vehicle. It would be on the plackard in the door jamb. I believe it is somewhere near 700 lbs, so if you have 5x200 lbs people in it then you are overloading it. It is not the number of people, but the weight of the load that matters.

You are correct! Not exceeding your load capacity is the way to go. My 04 Civic is rated for 850 pounds for all passengers and cargo. Make sure your trunk is empty and that you are not carrying Jared before he started eating at Subway.

My husband and I just bought a 2004, LX 4 dr sedan, automatic this past Saturday. I bargained it down via internet and phone from the MSRP with destination of $16650 to $14,700 with destination. Invoice was $14,771 plus destination. Once we got to the dealership, my husband took over negotiations. They cut their dealer/doc fee in half to $250. The car already had pinstriping, mud guards, cargo tray and net and said they would give us all of those upgrades for $300 but thankfully my husband said no deal so they ended up just throwing them in. I would have liked to have gotten it the price down to $14,400 including dedstination especially with them still charging us a dealer fee but they ended up giving us $2000 in trade for my husbands crappy 1999 Taurus with 100,000 miles on it that we had to have towed the day before. My husband beat the heck out of that car and it was worth about $900 with nothing wrong with it and it needed $1200 minimum just to get it running again. I was pleased overall. We got to the dealership - Palm Harbor Honda in Palm Harbor, Florida which is in the Tampa Bay area - and we were in and out in less than 2 hours. We dealt with the internet manager and it was relatively hassle free. The beat every price in the area. Bummer that they only had 2 colors left in the LX sedan, auto - white and shoreline mist metallic so now I drive a Grandma beige car but I'm okay with it. I wasn't willing to pay $500 more plus lose the higher trade amount to get magnesium metallic. There was only one in that color in the area.

It's a great car and I haven't had any problems at all. I bought the exact same color and configuration in January for $14,700, which included all dealer fees and destination. Just had to pay FL state tax.

I didn't trade anything in and my final cost including car price, lead battery fee, waste tire fee, all dealer prep & processing fees, doc fees for using Honda's 1.9% financing and all state tax(6%) and tag, title & registration fees came to $15,732.52. Bought it on 28 Jan 04 from Marshall Honda in Panama City Florida. Had a very good straight forward experience there. I made the deal over the phone and I picked the car up. No surprises.

Does anyone have any good experience with dealer in NJ? Where? How much did you pay for it in total?

Just as a side note, the finance manager DESPERATELY wanted us to get a high priced extended warranty and gap insurance but we refused both. I called my regular insurance company to update them with our new car purchase and got gap insurance through them for a whopping $1 extra per month. Yes, $12 a year for gap insurance was a heck of a lot cheaper than what Honda was offering it for! I got 174,000 miles out of my 1993 Civic EX, automatic, 2 dr coupe with nothing but regular maintenance so I felt no need to get an extended warranty with my new 04.

I have purchased a Civic in 1999 from D&C Honda in Tenafly, NJ. It was the most pleasurable experience out of all of NYC dealerships. If you don't mind taking a hike to CT, Fair Honda of Danbury took really good care of me and some other people on and off this site. I have heard good things of Mahwah Honda , in Mahwah NJ. Here is a list of dealers to stay away from:
1. Paragon Honda in Queens, NY
2. RT 23 Honda in Pompton plains, NJ
3. White plains Honda in White plains, NY (owned by the same people who own Paragon.
4. Bob Ciasully Honda in Jersey City, NJ.
5. Bay Ridge Honda in Brooklyn, NY

How much did you pay for it in total?
This should not be your only concern. You should lok at the overall picture as well.

Stay away from DCH Academy Honda (in Old Bridge, NJ) as well..the salesmen there are as crooked as they come. I also just so happen to live next to the place they store the unsold cars, and you wouldn't believe how hard they drive those cars while heading to the dealership...
