#10353 of 10524 DCH of Lemon Grove try to back out on Civic HF

Dch promised in e-mail to sell me a 2012 HF for $18,100. They had seller's remorse but couldn't back out. I refused all add ons. My FICO is above 800. They wrote contract, said I'd been approved. I took possession the next day. On day 10 they mailed me a letter demanding the car back saying I'd been disapproved for the financing. I demanded to know why--still waiting and tomorrow it will have been 2 weeks since I requested--and said I'd be sending the payoff. I went to my pre-approved lender and they sent the check to Dch. Suddenly I got a call from the finance man and his supervisor. Did I want to take their financing as I'd been approved. What, they thought I'd break a contract with my credit union the way they break contracts? They said they'd have to "null" the contract as written. So far no new contract or call to sign anything. As of last week they still hadn't cashed the check. But American Honda says their records show me as the owner.
DCH can't be trusted. Do not buy cars from them unless you have full cash up front and it's under full warranty. (I've seen too many reviews about problems post sale).

Curious about your lifetime powertrain which I assume is held by a 3rd party insurance company. I was told by a competing dealer that it would be okay if you stayed local; however many dealers outside the area's dealership may not honor the warranty. Does anyone know anything about this?

The lifetime powertrain warranties I've looked into were dealer-specific. In other words, you'd have to return to that dealership to make a claim. The warranty wouldn't be honored by other dealerships. (I'm near Dallas, if that makes any difference.)

#10360 of 10524 Almost New Sedan EX $17000

I realize this is a new car prices paid topic, but the car I helped my Dad purchase was a 2012 with 3500 miles and 30-months left on the new car warranty, which is pretty close to new. Doing a lot of research on spanking new EX's in Minnesota, we came to the conclusion that a new one would have very likely been about $18,750 incl destination.
This car was one the dealer had owned since new and had used as a loaner vehicle and then moved to their used car lot. The "sticker" on the used car lot had it at $18,999, which was ridiculous, since a new one could be had for about that or less. We offered $17K. First got countered at $17.5, then $17.2 and finally, when we said we would think about it over lunch, they came down to our offer of $17k even. There might have been a bit more available, but I do not think there was much meat left on the bone.
Buying a used car also saved about $250 on the licensing fee in Minnesota and the tax on the $2k difference would have also been $140, so the OTD difference betwwen this "used" Civic EX and a new one is likely around $2000, which I felt was a nice discount for 3500 miles and 6-months of lost warranty.

Hi,
I got my EX for $18,435 and I live in NYC so my OTD price is about $200 more. Overall, I'm happy with my purchase.
Hopefully, this helps out folks who are planning to get their EX.
