Andy: Living in Idaho you probably know a lot about horses. The Daewoo being the same as a dead horse why in the world would you want to buy one. Maby they are giving them away now (they may have to LL).Also I don't understand why you would even compare the two vehicles, Jeep vs Daewoo, as they certainly are at opposite ends of the spectrum. Good luck. By the way, do they even HAVE any Daewoo dealerships in Idaho ?
#49 of 57 Rented a Lanos for a day ....

Rented a 2000 Lanos today, since my Mitsibishi was in the shop. handling was twitchy, felt like one front wheel grabbed at one light making the car lurch to one side. Most small cars at least handle good, this one couldnt even manage that.
engine was noisy and the tones it put out were ugly. Then on the way home, the Engine light came on. Im honestly wondering if this car with 40k miles will get me to work in the morning, if so, i will turn it in and get something different.

felt bad for the person who posted at the beginning "this is a great car, I cannot see why Daewoo will not be a major contender in the U.S. market", or something like that. In light of what has happened...
The only Daewoo I ever drove was a Nubira, took it on a half hour test drive. The steering pulled badly, one of the windows and some of the lights did not work, and the car had less than 50 miles. It was raspy getting on the freeway, and not very fast either. I never went back.
#51 of 57 Lanos: To buy or not to buy

The deal is: $7400 brand new including all fees, auto, ac, pw, pm, cassette. Add $995 if I take the 4/48k warranty. What do you think? Ken S.

AVOID. You can get a better price on an Accent (which is a better car) and with a longer warranty.

honoring that warranty?

this is my first posting although i read the messages once in a while. i'm posting this message to tell you about my very bad experience with this oct 1999 Lanos SEL automatic. first 1 1/2 years was okay. after that, headaches and heartaches and lots more aches in my wallet. the latest problem is this....in july this year, the timing belt was changed. yesterday, some suden strange noises in the engine area and then the power was gone totally. the dealer said the alternator belt was damaged and the shreds from the steel belt went through a tiny open space in the timing belt area and damaged it. so all told, damaged were the alternator belt, the tensioner, and the timing belt. i cannot believe how the timing belt was damaged but anyway, i had it fixed believing i had no choice. this morning, the dealer called to say they had finished replacing the belts but there is still no power. prognosis: the valves may have been damaged and so they need to open the cylincer head and check further. possibly, a top overhaul at least. but they don't discount other worse scenario. i'm therefore looking at a few thousand dollars denting again my already badly dented and bashed wallet. i bought a lanos bec its cheap but seems ok. now, i've learned my bitter lesson....cheap lanos sucks!!!
after 75,000 kms or 2 1/2 yrs, the car had its final inspection before the warranty expires in june this year. during inspection, no major problem noted. sicne june 2002,
