I was the owner of a new beetle 2006 automatic transmition, i had it for two weeks and I return it. The car since we took it out of the dealer the blinkers did not work!! the alarm was with problems, and when the car had 165 miles (new car) the engine light came on..I was so in love with the bug, that i really did not wanted to return it, but the car was not safe at all with all the problems. I know that this is no gonna help nobody, is a lemon comment, but for future owner of a beetle, think it twice, the VW have a lot of electrical problems, and here in Atlanta i see at least one broken down on the road every month.
they are beautiful, but hopefully VW will make them in germany and no in Puebla Mexico, so probably the price will be higher but the quality too.

The problem turned out to be the ignition switch. She had it replaced at a local repair shop for $300, instead of the $500-600 at VW dealership.

did the key get wet anytime recently? We had the same problem with our 02 TDI. The key had gotten in with some trash and was soaked. About 30 days later the car alarm started acting as you have described. Put the key in a drawer far from the car and it has not happened since,

Recently had a problem with an 02 TDI. The timing was off on the vehicle which I believe is now fixed HOWEVER you have to spit some starting fluid into it in order for the vehicle to start, but it shuts off right afterwards. Has anyone ever had this problem? If so, did you figure anything out. Thanks.

Can I get a little more detail from you regarding this problem? Here is what I am experiencing and maybe you can tell me if it is the same thing that happened to you. While driving down the road my beetle (2002 Turbo S) had what I will describe as a 'hiccup' and all of the little icons that come on when you start the car popped up and then went away. It has happened three times since Saturday. It does seem to die, but it comes quickly comes 'back to life.' Do you think replacing the power supply relay switch will help? I greatly appreciate any information anyone can give me. Thanks!

Tons of Problems!! First, the antanne broke off, the we started having electrical problems. The turn signals work when you slap the dashboard. we only have high beam headlights, we tried to replace the low beams, now only high works. Various interior parts are falling off. Transmission is getting sluggish. Today was the last straw. The oil lights keeps coming on, even though it has oil, and the engine is ticking. Gonna let the bank have it back!!!

I agree!! Our 2001 is a piece of trash! Besides all the interior parts starting to fall off, we are havinf terrible electrical problems, and today, the oil pump quit! Gonna give it back to the bank!
#707 of 1143 Ignition Coil Paks
Dec 16, 2006 (3:29 pm)
I have a 2006 Beetle (2.5 engine) that I purchased new. I have had problems with coil paks 3 times. First 2 times occurred with less than 1000 miles on the vehicle and the most recent happened at 10000 miles. The first time the vehicle ran rough with very little power and dealer replaced 2 coils. Second time vehicle wouldn't start (had to be towed to dealer) dealer replaced all 5 coils. VW service stated that all 5 coil chambers were wet and water appeared to come from transportation by sea (saltwater). The third time the vehicle was running rough and dealer replaced 1 coil. Does anyone know a cure for this problem and is anyone else having a similar problem?
