Restoring my 1994 E320 by solot2

New here but didn't see a solution, so thought I'd ask:)
I'm keeping my E320, no questions, no doubts - she has run like a well made Mercedes since I bought her and regular maintenance has kept her that way, so that's that! What I'm looking for are places to compare having the body restored to showroom condition.

There are minor scratches in the paint, an ugly 1" scrape from a commuter park-n-ride lot and the paint has oxidized on the hood. The leather isn't cracked or dirty, no body damage and guess it's more cosmetic than anything.

I was quoted $5,000 to strip her down to the nub and bring her back to life, new knobs for the door (those suckers fall off too easily) but that was before MB decided all parts had to come strictly from them.

Has anyone had their baby redone, I'm only looking to get ballpark estimate what this might run. Currently I'm in Washington state but will take it out of state for a reliable and conscientious shop.

Thanks for any suggestions...remember, I have no intentions of selling or trading this car in. She's simply beginning to show her age
PS - That image is not my car!

E350 Lease Deal by beetle39

I closed this deal and took delivery 4-26-09 at Coggin MB in Ft Pierce, FL

E350 with:
289 Wood Steering wheel,
413 Panorama sunroof,
P02 Premium II Pkg.

MSRP $61,045
Selling/purchase price 48,000
 + Dealer Fee 599
 + Acquisition Fee 1,095
 + Prepaid maintenance 1,010 4 years
Capitalized Cost $50,704

Down payment 3,960
 + taxes, tags, fees 580
( I elected to pay $5,000 in cash to keep payment under $500, so that was my total out of pocket. However, at 1%, it might be desirable to finance more.)

48 monthly payments of 476.53 + 21.04 maintenance
                          TOTAL 497.57
12,000 miles per year
Residual 42% (25,639)
Money Factor .00038 equal to .91 APR

With 21.3% discount and less than 1% cost of financing, this seems to be a pretty good deal.

The price is a good deal of $48k but why lease already for 48 months no less. Does that maintanence includes tires and brakes which you most likely will need after 3 plus years of ownership and that will either cost you during or at the end of you lease so tack on another $1.5k for tires and brakes.

After 4 years you will have paid $476.53*48 = $22,873 + $5,000 + $1,500 for tires and brakes = $29,373. I am excluding what you are paying for maintenance. Plus your residual is still based on the $61k price not the $48k which is bringing down your payment. In this scenario I would already buy the car although it seems like your only concern is the monthly cost to be under $500. You could have bought a certified pre owned 2007 for $30k.

I did consider those things you brought up. The prepaid maintenance covers only those items in the service book that must be done periodically. Tires and such are not included. Prepaying the maintenance saves about $350.

The effective interest rate of .91% makes the lease attractive. My total cost if I buy the car for the residual is still basically $48,000 plus interest, maintenance, taxes and dealer fees etc.

The $500 payment was strictly an arbitrary choice that doesn't really matter - just a preference. I would actually be better off if I let them roll more of the cost into the payments with only a .91% interest rate.

If I bought a 2007 for $30k, the interest rate would probably be around 7% and I don't want a used car. Different strokes.

Thinking about leasing or purchase E550 2009. Any special rates on the E550 or is it just limited to the E350 2009?
          Thanks

Justs ordered a 2010 E350 Sport for delivery in Sindelfingen in Nov in conjunction with a vacation we'd planned. For ED, you pay invoice and the transportation charge is waived. You also get a free night in a hotel, they feed you and provide a couple of taxi passes to get to the factory. This is a base E350 with metallic paint the only option. The cost is $45,868 plus $399 doc fee, tax and tag. We were going to be over there anyway, so this saves the transportation charge and we don't have to rent a car to get around while there. We're really looking forward to bumming around Bavaria in a new E.
