Hi all,

Dennis in Seattle here. As I write this, I've owned my HL Limited for a total of 12 hours, and I can't remember a time when I was more excited about a vehicle. I upgraded from a Subaru Outback, a truly wonderful car. But I was ready for something bigger and something in which I could put my bicycles, as opposed to hanging them off the back of the vehicle. I had both the worst and the best buying experience with my Highlander. The worst was at Michael's Toyota in Bellevue, who did everything but bludgeon me with a baseball bat in order to get me to buy a vehicle I only wanted to test drive. On the other hand, Burien Toyota was low key, helpful, and a joy to work with. Anyway, it's great to be a Highlander owner. I look forward to many years of adventures in it before I palm it off on my brother.

G'day

Responding to Dennis's post above, I also traded aan Outback for a Kluger (Highlander to you) about a month ago. So far so good although there are a few minor rattles that irritate. So far, I have been very impressed althoough it is not as fun to drive as the Subaru.

The discovery that the speedo reads a little below the true speed is a worry. particularly after i'd gone past a photo speed trap.

Cheers

Hi Everyone, this is my first post here and while not yet a Highlander owner I promised my wife I would do some research, she is interested in buying one. Would like some feedback on what kind of gas mileage everyone is getting and living in northern Virginia if we should get the 2w, 4w, or awd? and do these differ re: gas mileage? Thanks in advance for your replies.

Good morning,

In response to you question about gas mileage we get 20-21 city and 25-26 highway here in Phoenix Az. Both our Highlanders (2001 & 2002) are 2WD, V-6 Limited. We are very happy with both.

Best of luck with your purchase.

Dennis,

Same experience - went to Michael's then thankfully found my way to Burien for the purchase. I've also used Burien's body shop thanks to a "hit and not run but park right next to me" and they did an almost perfect job. I would recommend.

Today I'm trying out Toyota of Seattle's Service department for the first time. My friend recommended a local shop by the name of Moss Alley Motors, but I had a recall so off to the dealer I went.

Any local shop experiences?

I get between 19 and 22MPG with mixed city and highway driving (i own an 01 v6 4wd).
If you get seriuos snow for more then a few weeks 4wd comes in handy. Otherwise your paying extra for the gas and for the 4wd.
Im in Buffalo NY and my job involves 100 miles of driving daily, so 4wd does come in handy during the winter.

I am trying to decide 4 cyl. or 6 cyl. Highlander. I see that you have the 4 and live in the Northeast. I live the same region, the Catskills. How have you found the performance and gas milage?

hi
my nane is lauren soprani. my parents got me a 2005 toyota highlander 4X4 v6 4wd last week. they said they did not get the packages offered as extras. does that mean that i dont have any security features? i did receive that key that says unlock, lock, and panic on the back but not the sticker for the window that tracks the glass or anything else. do you have it and is it important or what does that key i have do if anything? i dont park my car in a garage so im just a little nervous.

Congratulations on your new purchase!

You can rest easy as you do have a security feature in the form of an alarm that will sound the horn repeatedly if somebody tries to break into the vehicle; the alarm can also be activated by the panic button on the remote if for some reason you want to, say if you're in the office and you see someone out the window trying to break into the car (though your car will have to be reasonably close to the office for the panic button to be detected by the Highlander). I suspect most people never use the panic button; the most common use of the remote is to lock and unlock the doors when you're within 10 feet or so of the car so you don't have to physically insert the key into the door to unlock it if you don't want to.

Hope this helps, and welcome to the Highlander boards!!!
