The "UPO" code for the Riviera radio is likely a VERY different radio than the UPO in the Impala. Check out the sites www.mnrelectronics.com and www.radiosandmore.com to see what the Impala UPO radio looks like. Let us know if it is different. Remember, the Impala has a "data bus" and the head unit controls lots of vehicle configuration stuff. Both the MRN and Radios and More sites have said that without question the Impala UPO radio will control the Delco CD changer. However, I'm still very unsure/worried. Brad |

Brad, looks like you were right about the RPO option code "UPO" being different for the Riviera. My radio's the same as this one:
http://store3.yimg.com/I/electronman_1628_7100319 At this point it appears that my 2 options are an RF changer or put up with a stack of CD's in the console. :o( |

| If you look close in the bottom left hand corner of the radio that you have pictured in the link above you can see in the window area of the radio "CHNGR" Would that be CHANGER? I would think so, unless it is a generic board for more than one radio of that style? and still doesn't work with that particular radio? Don | |

Impala, you sure must eat lots of carrots! |

| So no one is willing to take a chance and order up one of those 12 disc changers and see if it works huh? I don't blame you, I'm still unsure as well and don't want the hassle of sending it back. I wish GM knew for sure... | |

I'm sick and tired of trying to figure this out. I decided it's probably best to go right to the source. I've contacted Delphi Delco Automotive Electronics to see if I can get a straight answer. I sent a message from their web site. If I don't get a response within a week I'll try calling them. I'm also going to call some of the companies they list as "authorized" service centres (MNR electronics is on this list). One way or another I'll get this figured out! Brad |

I just got off the phone with the Delphi/Delco authorized service dealer in my area (he actually services the radios for the dealer where I bought my car). He said the Delco 12 disc changer DOES work with ALL Impala radios (he even said ULO, UNO, UPO without any prompting from me). He has installed them and has seen them work with the FACTORY harness. For the UNO/UPO radios (those with in-dash CD), the head unit looks to the in-dash cd first, if there is a CD there it plays it first, then it moves to playing the CDs in the changer. I'm finally confident enough to have asked the dealer to get me a price for the changer. Once I get the car in May I'll let everyone know how the installation goes. Brad |

| If you do consider getting the GM Changer be SURE to get a price quote from Chuck Hutton GM Parts, they sell at just over Cost something like 30% OFF Retail and it will save you a bundle over you local parts Dept. www.gmpart.com is the site I believe, I would go ahead and get a price quote, they will e-mail you the List price and their price and I would have to believe you would have a hard time getting a better price, and FREE UPS Shipping on top of that! | Be sure to get a price Quote from www.gmpart.com Chuck Hutton Chevrolet Olds. They will save you a bundle off the price of the Changer, Your local parts Dept will give you some inflated price. Check for yourself and they will e-mail you their price, You would have a hard time beating the price, with FREE UPS Shipping to boot! www.gmpart.com Don | |
